Hi guys I have done searches but not come up with an easy answer.
I WILL NOT BE FITTING HEADLAMP WASHERS NOR AUTO LEVEL AND YES I DO KNOW THAT IT MAY NOT PASS AN MOT ECT.
I have a 57reg A3

What i want to know is:
Do Bi xenons require more work to fit that Xenons?

I know that you have to buy an after market loom for the Bi xenon, once that is bought is it a straight plug and play?( then VCDS)

Xenon just plug into existing loom(then VCDS)

Hope this will help everyone

Also can someone do a write up on how to fit them?

xenon is plugnplay with possibile coding

bixenon requires extra wires added as per loom but also coding, problem is some network boards in module 09 dont support bixenons so you will find the headlights work 90% as they should but work overall, also you may or may not get some interference through your speakers as I did until I upgraded my network board & coded for bixenon adaptive

If you buy the loom from kufatec they supply an install guide which for me I think is crap, but hey gets others lights working, so go for it

Ye I said it, lol.

Best option is to make one yourself tbh as you'd have to add more wires anyway & possibly move some to the new locations & the adapters for me dont always cater for the changes you have to make.

height would be via the motors, but possibly they would of come of the car at the level height, no guarantees though which is why you should install the levelling kit.

Vagcom wont help you with this except when setting mot mode as I call it & as you arent doing levellers that wont work either, there are manual screws on top but it also depends on the levellers current height

Bi-xenons require a little more work, however as NHN said, if your network board isnt the right version your flash wont work (if i remember correctly). There is a thread on here somewhere about it.

There is quite a bit on info on here where people have fotted them, just do a search on bixenon

Hope this helps.

Do you mean oem single vision or aftermarket, cause oem ones dont blow wiper motor, aftermarket ones, well there's been talk of a digital ballast that doesnt blow the motor, but I swear someone said there's did eventually blow even with an enhanced ballast.

I'm talking about retrofitting oem single xenon.

I thought I read even with retrofitting oem it can blow the rear wiper motor?

Also is it a direct plug and play with the original halogen wiring?

Thanks

Oem doesnt affect anything else on the car, although if not coded for xenons you may get a DIS warning of some sort, ask Smudge Don what warning he said he got, but the single vision oem xenons should be plugnplay as they share pretty much the same wiring & the same 10 pin plugs, bixenon/bixenon adaptives use a 14 pin & wire differently.

Mate, loads for sure, I am still learning everyday, like modding facelift mirrors to a prefacelift 8P, that was fun cause audi changed the cast alum mirror fixing, so its slightly larger & size different, what a ball breaker, thread to follow soon when completed, grinder, dremel & patients needed for sure, lol, also superglue, but also whilst doing I found I had water leaking into the door, so it was almost destiny to do the mod to find the leak huh, cause it was all round my Bose door speaker which isnt cheap, phewwwwww

Will the auto leveling sensors work okay if i get them of an S3? then use the KUFATEC loom to connect them up? also where on the car should i run the loom?

Yeah i still get a "left dipped light" and "right dipped light" error on the DIS everytime i switch the engine on

Turn the lights on, and it goes away, strange

Nige, what's the difference between bi-xenons and adaptive b-xenons?

4wd sensors may be different tbh, best to check with etka if they will match your chasis range, oh btw is yours quattro or not?

Bixenons have dipped & main beam with auto levelling, adaptives have this but also move left to right when going round corners, wired completely differently aswell given have direct can connection in the headlight modules where as bixenons dont.

Adaptives are the dogs nads as fitted to my car love them man.

Xenon lights

Can you explain what the diference between normal lights and xenon lights are.

Iwas aware when i bought a new golf years ago that they were a £700 option. Now you see xenon bulbs in halfords for a tenner?

My wifes punto was supposed to come with them as standard but i do see some cars with brighter lights and with blue tint-usually on high spec german cars.

Xenon headlamps (also referred to as HID headlamps) use gas discharge lamps and produce twice as much light than halogens whilst consuming less power (35W). The actual bulb contains a gas consisting largely of xenon (hence the name) which is an inert gas, that is ignited by high voltage which is why xenon equipped cars have ballasts.

The blue colour of xenon light is because it has a higher kelvin rating compared to halogens which are 3000k - 3700k while xenons are 4300k from the factory. Each xenon equipped car has projectors which distributes the light properly without dazzling other cars.

The bulbs you see in Halfords are regular halogen bulbs with a blue coating in order to make the bulb appear white. They are useless and should be banned.

Summary: Xenons much brighter, whiter and look cooler.

Plus, in halfords, you are merely paying for the bulbs alone.

With the £700 option you had to get them on the car, this is for the housing, projector lenses, ballasts and the bulbs

i get it now. what is the ballast for?

What kind of price are you looking at to get these retro fitted now? (06 A3)

Mostly driving at nights now and this would be worthwile if its not too expensive.

Hi to everyone from Madrid,

I ' have a 2006 A3 with bi-xenon and DRL front ligths. I was wondering if you know if it were possible to "insert" the new led-bixenon front ligths internal parts into the old casing. Maybe is crazy what I'm asking, but has anyone tried it? :)

cheers,
galanot

Go oem, not aftermarket save yourself the trouble later mate.

Check this for xenon info:

http://www.mvlc.info/xenon_abc.html

From Audi, the xenons are hugely expensive!

I've got some on ebay for sale

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200398794564&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

The ballast is basically the power for the xenon bulbs

I can velch for these headlights, quite simply cause they were mine, lol, so 100% working.

From the outside & design I'd say no, dont bother, different shape mate.

But thats not to say it isnt impossible with modifications but rather expensive route to take.

yeah would be a hell of alot easier for anyone to buy yours, as mostly plugnplay huh.

Mine is just fwd and I do not have etka. Can anyone find the part number for the fwd one? or find out if the S3 sensors will fit onto mine?
Thanks

How would i adjust my light height? can you do it manual with a screw driver or would I have to use vagcom?

Just remember if you are not fitting autolevelling which ever xenons you fit that you need to plug them into someone elses car and put them into MOT mode then unplug as this will bring them to the centre. Once fitted to your car you can use the manual adjusters to line the lights up on a beam setter. I found out the hard way, as once they were fitted i found out the manual adjusters wudent lift the lights high enough so had to remove the bumper and lights again so i could plug them into another car.

It all depends what position the lights were in when removed from the previous car

When plugging into another car with xenons you can just sit them on top of the engine bay as the wires are long enough to plug in without removing bumper etc, also remember the other car needs to have the same xenons as yours ie xenon, bi-xenon or bi-xenon adaptive

Yeah i still get a "left dipped light" and "right dipped light" error on the DIS everytime i switch the engine on

Turn the lights on, and it goes away, strange

Surely thats a coding issue

so will my manual adjuster work with the bi xenon motors? as in i just buy the kufatec loom and the settings 1,2,3 will move the light up and down? or do i have to fit the manual motors out of the halogens into the bi xenon unitfor this to work?

The memories huh matt of fitting those bixenons & your levelling issues, mot lol, kufatec were so helpful to you & me aswell, lol, notttttt, those days were fun, lol

Also I have advised Jordan number fo times needs coding with vagcom, but he chooses to leave as is, the old saying lead horse to water..........................lol

No those motors wont work full stop, completely different, ask matt as we ventured into this.

You saying Jordon is a horse and is thirsty? She's a slapper no doubts LOL

so its back to the range sensors then :( has anyone found out if the S3 range sensors will work on a a3 fwd??

I believe they will.

On the old A3/S3 the rear suspension was completely different so didnt fit but on the current model its almost identical.

Sorry ewan, but etka shows different sensors for fwd & 4wd for 05 cars, so doubt can be used across both.

I remember checking this with Fizz recently & we discovered the same thing.

what about 07? looks like i am gonna have to give up and buy the kufatec pack :( early christmas pressy to me)

I'm happy to try & source the parts & looms for you if you like, just tell me what you want to achieve overall.

Nope, they're bi xenons

You can tell the difference as the inside of the housing is darker than the single xenons, and the lense of the middle light sticks out a bit more Ryan
