I have been having a discussion with Jim (freegeek) from Race Diagnostics who make the Liquid gauge system for VAG based cars.

Those of you who are not aware of this rather impressive gadget should head over to http://www.racediagnostics.com/ and check it out...

Leon%20S3%20vent%20with%20insert.jpg

Essentially it plugs into the diagnostic port and have a wealth of features (depending on your car, engine code etc) such as the ability to display gauges for the following:

Engine power
Torque
Boost pressure
Cmd pressure
Mass Air Flow
Air Fuel Ratio
Air intake temp
Exhaust temp
Coolant temp
N75 position
Oil temp

...graphs for the following:
Engine power
Torque
Boost pressure
Cmd pressure
Mass Air Flow
Air Fuel Ratio
Air intake temp
Exhaust temp
Coolant temp
N75 position
Missfire
Dyno plot
Timing Correction plot

...and show and clear fault codes etc...

Jim is up for a group buy on this and is offering 10% discount if I can get 10 or more people interested.

The Liquid can also be supplied with a vent fit kit which is a bit more money of course. Vent kits aren't available for all models but Jim said if enough people are interested then he can get some made.

If you have any questions about the Liquid and what it does etc then please just visit the web site and read up on it rather than litter this thread with stuff thats already out there...

Mods, I have had a chat with Mark (Byzan A4) about posting this...

Please express your interest...

Id love one of these, so I'd be interested. Would he budge on the discount? 10% is a good chunk on £800 worth of suspension (for example), but getting £20 off wouldn't really make a massive difference on something costing £200.

Obviously I appreciate the groundwork you've already put in, and I realise Im probably coming across as an ungrateful tightarse, but if we are potentially putting almost £2k worth of business Freegeeks way, maybe he could up the discount abit? Or should I shut up?

I have sent the link to Jim... who knows if there is enough interest then maybe he will offer a bit more but I doubt it will be loads if at all.

In fairness its very good value for money considering what it does. 10% may not seem like a lot off but its better than nowt...

would it be possible to get a list of the engine codes and what functions are supported for us a3 owners?

My mate has one of these and they are a good bit of kit, only thing is without the vent they are very fragile at the back of the unit, I wouldn't want to lose a vent for it but would definately have one if there is some sort of case he could fit it in so that I could use it as a portable device...

Cheers tuffty...

You can get a pod mounted unit that can be screen mounted, better than the vent.

Firstly people, please use the links in the first post to find out all you need to know about the Liquid, its features and also look at the link that has the prices as this will list the options and versions available....

Thanks JS1500 for posting that info however the list on ebay looks to be out of date, have a look at the 'Cars supported' link in the first post. Even though the A3 isn't actually listed, the compatibility and features are going to be that of the baby TT of a similar year/engine code I would imagine. I suspect that EGT and possibly oil temp would be the only features unavailable to 8L A3 owners with a 1.8t.

Look at the pricing link in the first post (spotting a theme yet peeps? :p) As Dani has said, there is a portable unit available..

would be interested if it was sub £150 cars just cost me way too much this month to justify any more!

TBH, prolly gonna take a few weeks to sort this out anyway. I will sort posting a list that can be updated so anyone interested can PM me what model you are after and I'll get it updated...

Sorry mate, im usually on my i-phone and can't be bothered to go into the links...

Yeah the liquid cube is the one I'd go for with the sucker...

Does he supply a new vent so we keep our old ones or do we need to send out original one for him to modify? I am very interested but need to get money together first.

great job in sorting this one out Tufts.....

I would be interested on this, it would need to be more than 10% saving for me to buy though.... also might have A N Other for one if the discount was more (for a Mk1 Leon)

Tim

I wonder if there's a possibility of a larger discount if we;

Agree to report back any faults / missing functions / thoughts on improvement (thus aiding development)...
Agree to take decent pictures of our completed installation for possible use on Jim's website etc...

Also there's the word-of-mouth publicity of us attending VAG meetings/gatherings, showing off our gadget - should lead to more orders.

?

its an impressive gadget but really couldnt see myself paying £180 + the vent kit.

What i would pay for is mobile phone software & a connection kit imagine !

Good on tuffty for setting up the group buy, the only problem i have with the liquid is that it's too small, not only that but the REV software that's available for the iphone has/is having a updated version released with more functions.

My impression is he doesnt make a great deal from them due to low overheads. If we push the prifile too high, perhaps that will push the price up accdongly...

Lets see if we can hang out for 10 people across the board, that will benefit us all.

The thing we will benefit from is being one of the first with this gadget as well as possibly taking part in software updates/changes as they happen i believe for free or a negligable cost

Count me in.
S4 B5

Checked the website but can't find anything about them fitting it in the vent then selling it.
Can they suply it already fitted in the vent i.e so it's plug and play.

Rev software requires you to first have an iPhone and then have the WiFi OBD port adaptor which is where the price kicks in... From what I understand its not cheap but arguably the total cost is similar to that of the Liquid.

Jim does regular updates from what I understand and looks to add new features etc as much as he can.

Granted the screen on the Liquid is small but not more than any other 52mm gauge and there are enough people fitting them and this does a little more than a single gauge.

Count me in.

Jim said he needs around 15 people with A4/S4's to get the suppliers to do a run of the vent adaptors for your car. Might be worth while getting this posted across all relevant forums to gain interest.

I will mention this to him... I will see about getting some prices that I can add to the thread to make it easier to understand whats on offer...

Rather than discuss alternatives to Liquid and/or post if you don't want one, can we keep the thread clean and only include relevant posts please...

If its not for you then its not for you, really no need to post here other wise. If you want one or have a question then please post, if not then please don't. There are alternative products out there, this thread is not here to discuss the merits of any of them... If you want a Gadget A vs Gadget B vs Gadget C discussion, start another thread.

All links to the Race Diagnostics web site are in the first post. Do the research, if you like it and decide you want one then let me know... simples...

<tuffty/>

I do have a question i've not seen the answer to yet - does the light on the vent turny-wheely-thing still come on?
(Facelift S3)

Cheers!

If you leave it wired up yes... I retained this 'feature' when I fitted my stealth boost gauge :)

<tuffty/>

Ive got 1 of these in my S3,and have to say,its a cracking piece of kit.... VERY recomended....

Ive had mine about 8 months now.. Are there any updates on it yet Jim????

Pete..

Would love one of these but the S3 8P aint listed, i have emailed them to find out if they have a compatible one for me. If so ill put my name down :)

Who builds your pcb's mate as I might need someone to do some for me, completely different item to yours.

As this group buy isn't really moving that fast, I have just gone ahead and bought one... plan is that now my car seems to be working ok again I will have a proper play with it and write up a review with pics... hopefully this will help people decide if they would like one or not...

Its already helped with fuelling issues and EGT issues I have had with my car.

<tuffty/>

I have seen this first hand and it does what it says on the tin.

Boost,AIT,EGT and a few things that could be read on the move for fault finding. If i could afford it , i would have one already !

If it was worth it for my car I'd have one as they look well Gucci. However, for my car its just not worth it.

im interested in one of these toys but would like it to go in the center vent

I am with you mate, I have it temporarily fixed into the centre vent at the moment. Not sure if that going to be the final position yet but prefer that position to the drivers vent atm...

<tuffty/>

tufts i think thats a better plan, less glare too in theory....

sorry i couldnt jump on the back of the GB matey, just not generous enough for me to put other things aside

to be honest, it wouldn't take much effort to make something from MDF if you needed to but depends on how willing and how handy you are..

Here is a pic of mine temporarily fitted in the centre vent of my S3 for testing/laziness reasons...

This isn't going to be the final installation as yet. Will be looking to stealth it somewhere... just not sure where yet..

Will do a full write up hopefully in the next week or so... dark evenings are a bit of a pain at the moment though so will try and take pics of all the features I can during the daylight hours...

<tuffty/>

After it's wired in can you just unplug it and use VAG-COM if you have to?

Yes you can. Here is a pic of mine plugged in..

I have been a bit busy recently so not had a chance to start putting together a full review. I have been using the Liquid though and its been a very handy piece of kit while I am snagging my car after the the BT conversion...
