Just baught a new MAF was just curious about de-restricting it... how do i get the plastic bits out each end? and does both of them come and and stay out so its basically hollow apart from the sensor in the middle???

thanks

No real gains tbh and more likely gonna cause more engine running probs than anything else especially on anything other than a highly modded car and they tend to run MAF less when you get to big numbers.

<tuffty/>

ive been told it helps and it wouldnt effect the running of the car.. because nothing can get through due to the filter, so arn't they only restrictors? so i wouldnt gain at all from doing it?

i pulled all the mesh stuff out of mine last time i cleaned it and the throttle body as it went against all i know of airflow on normally asperated engines... cant say as it made and difference though but it certainly hasn't caused problems.... it just clips in but is very hard to remove without damaging the plastic mesh

so are u talking about the plastic mesh? or the small single layer of metal mesh behind that?

The mesh is also there to diffuse the airflow, creating turbulence.. rather than blasting it straight onto the hotwire.

I wouldnt do it personally, gains will be minimal if any.

But if your set on doing it, remove the sensor from the unit (you may need safety torx bits) then get busy with a hacksaw.

well i wont bother then. i was rthought it would be better. and thought it might just pull out. but if i have to mess around with a hacksaw then i wont bother

anyone got a pic of a standard maf, without mesh removed, curious to know if mine has been removed or not
