Hi all. I have been on the forum for about three years but dont often post. The lease is up on my sportback in a few months and I reckon that I will moving on to another marque. Have always found this site very informative and useful. Now playing the game of trying to find another decent car within my budget.

Sorry you're leaving mate. Will you be staying within VAG?

Car policy says I can have an A5 2.0T but the kids are not keen as I would probably have to cut their legs off so they could fit in when they are older! How have Audi managed a reverse tardis (big on the outside but really small on the inside)?
Then looked at the Passat CC, cos I love the look of that.
But reckon I might go back to a Merc which was where I came from before I bought the Audi. The new C Class is looking lovely.
But will of course come back to the forum :)

A C class over an A5? No chance for me. I'd have the hacksaw at the ready!

Is there really that little room? How about an A4?

I know the A5 is such a gorgeous car, but seriously u gotta look in the back and there is no room. My twins are now 12 and I gotta think that they will be 15 before the car goes.

Whats the budget!

And stick around fella! I sold my A3 but find myself popping on ever night just to help out the lads and catch a quick laugh!

New C-Class is awesome motor though - make sure you get a sport model though with the 18s if you do get one.

There solid motors mate - ours is a 08 and nothings evergone wrong on it.

How about a A4, A6 or A8? Q5?

or the new 3 series coupes do look good...

3 series coupe would be a good one. Those 335d's are seriously quick and very economical given the performance.

The A5 really is rather cramped in the back, but I would imagine that most 12-15 year olds would be fairly comfortable unless they have a massive growth spurt and end up being 6 foot tall. Our 3.0 TDI has been fantastic for the 18 months we've owned it. Covered almost 30,000 miles effortlessly.

Have you looked at the new A5 5 door Sportback out on OCT 1st?

I'd consider the new A4 had one for a good few days when my A3 went into Audi. And there room in the back and none of the lads moaned about it. Any photo of your current car? And Kaz that Merc looks lovely!!!

Current car is a rather nice A3 sportback 2.0T Quattro Sline special edition so full leather and 18" wheels as standard.

Considered the A4 but not sure I can get one in the spec I want.

The problem is that as I am getting a lease car the budget is not set, its all to do with retained value at the end of the lease and what discounts suppliers offer the lease company.

To give an extreme example the A5 2.0T Sport is available (£27k) but if I decided to go for a Vauxhall Insignia (No I dont have a clue why I would do that!) the best I could get is a 1.8 (about £19k). Its all based on what they work out the car could be worth in 3 years.

The main problem for me is that Audi are not offering the same discounts on the A5 sportback. So even though the retail price is lower than the Coupe it does not fall into my budget.

I really like the Passat CC and could get a well specced 170TDI GT with some toys.

BUT I am so tempted by the Merc, can only get a C180 but well specced. Had a C Class before I came to Audi and loved it so reckon that is the route I am going to take. But still have the demo A5 and CC to come so final decision not yet made.

I have not updated this in a while. I will be staying with VAG. A5 Coupe ordered  and will be on my driveway early January.

Good man, good choice! Look at it this way.. You are the driver, you don't need to sit in the back.. And if the kids are moaning, turn the tunes up! Simple as!

Oh and if the missus wines, make her walk. ;)

I think you have made the right choice especially as soon enough the lads are unlikely to want to go anywhere with mom & Dad once the hormones kick in nice choice )

Well reading through the comments, and currently running an A5 myself, I have to agree with the "reverse tardis" in fact, that is the very description I used to describe it to my dad when I first showed it to him. Space issues aside (and for me they dont matter as I have no children...yet) it's a really nice car to drive, it's a coupe and feels snug but not too cramped in the drivers seat, a nice dash set-up and brilliant for long journeys. Really supportive seats, and some nice standard extras. I also think it looks fantastic on the outside.

The only downside I could mention is if you have a front wheel drive model, it's got awful torque steer and behaves in a nasty way when it loses a bit of grip and you dont have to be driving it hard either (the car doesn't lend itself to that sort of driving anyhow), and mines only got the 1.8T. I imagine a Quattro model sorts that problem out.

That aside, i'd still have another, but I was after something different and smaller that could be thrown around a bit.

Great choice, and they look pretty good in black with the 19" wheels. ;)

seems like you've had some indecisions. . . Surprised you hadn't gone for a sportback or 4 door of some sort rather than a coupe given your circumstances
