Finally have something worth reporting, so decided it is time to start a build thread for my car as my old thread was a bit of a mess.

It all started in early december when i picked my self up an X reg A4 2.8 quatty to replace my V reg 1.9TDi.

i started doing a few jobs that needed doing such as the cam belt, with most of this done (detailed here in my old thread: http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=64110 ) it was time to crack on with the mods.

the plan was to build an OEM+ A4, basically tidy it up, and do some subtle mods but keeping it all looking factory to the untrained eye. first on the list was the funny stance and stock sport wheels, so i decided a set of 17s from a new audi was the way to do. ideally a set of the diamond cut 17" A8 5 spokeswhich look like bigger versions of the stock sport wheels.

after ages of looking around they where always too much/too far away/too poor condition (refurbing a diamond cut wheel looks like a nightmare!) when a set of S8 wheels came up, a photoshop and some measuring around convinced me that theese where what i needed, even if they where 18".

looks good to me! after perusing lots of 'wheel /suspension' threads on forums the ride height i wanted was going to have to come from a set of H&R race springs, this was a bit of a gamble as to if they would be low enough to get the look right, mainly at the front which for some reason sat high in the first place; but i bit the bullet and got them orderd, theory being if they are wrong i will have to save up for coilies.
in the end, the car i based my measurments on was this one:

after spunking my bank balance up the wall it was time to start the work, first job was to refurb the wheels:

(refurbed on the left, incase you hadnt guessed. they had alreayd been victim of an appaling refurb. if my attempts dont last i will get htem blasted and painted by someone who knows best)

next was the trial fit:

looks good! but...

not so good! spacers needed!

so spacers where orderd, tyres where fitted and on a sunny sunday a couple of weekends ago the spring and wheels where fitted... the results?

will get some proper pictures soon.

whats next?
-the dampers are a bit too worn, and seeing as im happy with the stance the springs will be staying, so some bilsteins of RS4 dampers will be going on.
- 312 front brakes and paint the calipers (gloss black)
- get the little dents pulled and the paintwork mopped
- sort the rusty patches on the boot lid, and scuffed bumpers
- i have a RNS-D navigation HU from an A8 to go in, and i want to add a sub to the bose
- clean the interior, ive started on the leather, but its taking ages! the whole car needs a good weekends scrubbing
- sort a better exhaust (rubbish stock tips atm, and very rusty), thinking about diesel style tips like the new A4.

there are also numerous other tweeks i want to do, but as it happens you will be the first to see it in here. feel free to ask any questions about anything i do as i usually take a lot of pics as i work.

Thanks for stopping by!

to be honest, the paints a bit of a mess, some areas are a bit flat, tons and tons of tiny scratches, the bootlid if coverd in big scratches on the top, and the bumpers arnt to bright. theres also quite a bit of rust (bottom left of the rear screen, a stone chip on the front edge of the roof, normal boot light surround rust, and at the end of the rear passenger door sill cover, and the rear passenger wheel arch has a few bubbles of rust on it!)

hopefully most of the dents (theres about 8-10 penny dents) can be removed without damageing the paint, and most of the panels will polish up with a session under the mop (not sure if im going to dare to do this my self!).

the boot lid and bumpers will probably need repainting (time for S4 bumpers?) and im not sure what to do about the wheel arch - probably live with it!

is the colour ming blue then? i keep meaning to ask. its definitely got a hint of pearl to it making it impossible to capture.

very pleased with the stance. it does touch on speedbumps though unless you crawl over them!

any pictures of yours on here?

i need to sort some better shots of mine, theese dont really show the wheels / stance too well.

Paul1982 - yours will be cool when its done! love the front seats! i think getting theese to look right in a widebody would take some substantial spacers, they are ET47, to get them looking right on here i have 13mm spacers, and ideally it wants another 8-10mm to sit spot on, but i dont really like the idea of running spacers over 15mm) so they might look lost in the arches.

docurley - cheers! im really chuffed with it!

jimmymidnight - they are FK 13mm spacers.

Yeah man. Great result! Y0ou don't miss the tdi at all?

i miss it ever time i fill up at 290miles, instead of 590 (although with the price difference between petrol and diesel, and the fact my tank is smaller in the new one its not actually twice as costly, its around 15-18p mile compared to 10-12)! but then the silky smooth v6 wafts me away from the petrol station in silence...

mines probably about as bad as a normal A4 could be, the biggest engine, fully loaded with electrics so weighs a ton, 4wd, and an auto box! i average 25mpg, but i got a 29mpg average on a tank that was 50% my normal journey to work, and 50% crusing at 90 (on my private test track) so i think a full tank, on the motorway should deliver about 30-34mpg.

but in a nutshell, i dont miss the TDi as much as i thought! its not as much as a drag to go back to petrol as you would think. im glad i went through with it and bought it.

that's somehting to think about if I submit to the missus on wheather I'm keeping the Audi or not... Interesting.

looks good mate, where did you get the springs?

lol, fogs are normally off if it isnt foggy! just fooling around for the pics.

i got the springs direct from H&R, although they passed through a UK distributor (cant remember who) but they had a bit of trouble as the weak pound means they dont hold much stock in the UK, so they had to be shipped from the fatherland.

looking good, nick. liking the wheels and lovin the stance any pics of the interior?

Loving the A8 rims... that's what I've got for my winter wheels! Excellent choice.

I was debating those wheels before i bought my Radius wheels. What was the price on the springs and where from as that looks like the height i want...

Nick... tell me more about the aero wipers you've got on. They look great. Where from and how much?

Cheers,

Giles

haha, i like the wheels on yours, was tempted to look out for a set of those myself! great minds...

i got them from a chap on here second hand, but they are the VAG parts ones. i will start a thread on the main section asking where you can get them as i need new blades, and vag parts are obviously no longer tradeing.

can recommend the aero's enough Geeman, work great and looks great from inside the car, trust me.

I've got some 'after-market' aeros on at the moment and they are miles better than the original 'normal' blades, so no complaints there... but Nick's OEM connectors look MUCH better than the 'compromised' large blocks I have on mine.

Gimme the details!!! :aggressive:

LOL

Yeah... saw them on his other thread which prompted me to ask about them. Stop teasing me and give me what I want! :sob:

same wipers as mine, from VAGparts, now sadly deceased :( They were made up from various OEM bits thou I think?

sorry to bang on about the springs, did you order staright from H@R online or phone them?

wipers and arms are vw passat items, you can get new blades from vw

cars looking great
what are springs like? seen them on german ebay at very reasonable price and i really do need some

Part No. 6a in this diagram and it's associated parts?

If so, it's from a 2001 Passat B6...

Part no's:

or...

3B2955410B for the aero-wiper arm / F 3B-2-225 001>>* / F 3B-2E287 726>>*
right rhd /

and...

there's about 4 choices of ****** blades too.

Wish everything was stright forward. The trouble is, I can't just walk into the local VW agents and have a chat about it as they're all thick as f*ck there. Will have to do some investigating...

Ras... cheers fella. Got it sorted as I noticed I'd messed up! :keule:

sorry to bang on about the springs, did you order staright from H@R online or phone them?

i did it online, but i would phone them and talk to a real person, as after 2 weeks i called them to ask where they were and it turned out that although i had a confirmation email, the order hadnt come up properly at their end, and then then they told me they could be up to 2 weeks longer before they got them in the UK, and another week for them to turn them around and ship them out to me. in actual fact they only took about 4/5 days.

in other news, it passed its MOT this morning with no advisories, and i just orderd some passat 02-05 aero blade refills from ebay, so we will see if they are the right ones!

Time For an update!

The A4 performed faultlessly, infact, all i have done since the last update is put petrol in it and oil/filter changes! at the start of the summer i went on a trip around europe;

To start with we headed south where we stayed in a ski chalet just south of lake geneva for a week(off season ski chalets = great value)
At lake geneva:

DSC_4575.jpg

The a4 comfortably munched up over 2500miles in 2 weeks, 4 up with all our stuff, munching up miles winding up mountain passes:
DSC_4592.jpg

then we headed south/west to spain, covering some 500miles in one day:
DSC_4679.jpg

we spent a week there, heading into barcelona and seeing the sights before heading home with an over night stop in france to break up the journey, although we still ended up doing 600miles in 1 day:
DSC_5043.jpg

When i returned home my office had been relocated, meaning my 25mile journey to work down A roads had grown to a stonking 60mile (120mile a day) grind taking in some of the finest sections of the m3, m25, and A40.
It was time to find a sensible daily, the A4 handled it perfectly without an issues for 3 months, untill i purchsed a Alfa 156 diesel last weekend (yup, its already broken). Im sure i will be returning to Audis in the future, but for now it was time for a 175hp, 290lbft diesel to munch up the treck to work.

So after 11months, and 25,000 faultless miles its time to let the quatty go, if anyones interested PM me, it is available with or without the wheels/springs.

-2000 X reg 2.8 Quattro
-about 8 months MOT, Currently on 96,000miles.
- pretty much every option, including cream electric, heated buffalino leather, and a awesome pearl paint job
-Tiptronic box and steering wheel
- Brand new coolant temp sensor, MAF, Cam belt, Aux belt, Tensioner, water pump about 20,000miles ago. all genuine audi parts that cost me a fortune!
- 18x8 S8 wheels, all straight, in good nick, reasonable paintwork on them, no curbing
- H&R race springs -50mm
- Khumo Ecsta 225/45/18s, about 10,000miles old (again, theese cost a fortune!)
- front S4 strutbrace mounts (not fitted)
- A8 navigation+ head unit, (not fitted, but the cars already got a double din slot)

flick back through this thread for more photos etc, but if you want more pics or info dont hesitate to contact me.
