Hi, I've just taken the bose amp out of my car due to a crackling front speaker. Thanks to AndyMac I understand that re-soldering some of it may stop the crackling, but does anyone know which joins? I'm reluctant to do all of them due to my relatively little experience!

Bottom middle of image is where the connector is...

I have also read that in the A4 B6 there is a connector near the doors which may become corroded and affect speaker performance, does anyone know if this is the same case for 8L A/S3's?

Any help would be apprecaited becuase this is driving me insane!

Reheat/resolder all the bigger component joints, there's only about 20. Leave all the tiny surface mount ones.
There's 8 main ones either side of the connector then 5 above and another 5 above that. Then a bunch of other similar sized joints
What you're looking for is a tiny hiss when you reheat, this is a sure sign of a dry joint.
There are no connectors between the cabin and the doors on the A3

Can you borrow/swap it for another one, just to ensure it is the amp?
When I've done this in the pat it's always worked, however I usually use a solder sucker to get rid of the old solder first and then resolder with fresh. If all you did was heat up the joints there is a chance it didn't work properly as you need fresh solder to get it to reflow properly.
Have you done all the major joints? i.e. everything bar the surface mount stuff.

Unfortunately I haven't got access to another one to try. Do you know which colour wires on the connector go where? I was thinking of swapping the pass / driver speakers over to try that...

Hi, I'm following the thread with interest as I have the same problem with crackling to both front speakers and as Andymac suggested it does get better as it warms up - definately at its worst first thing in the morning and can be ok late afternoon. How did you get on with the soldering.
Did you eventually solve the problem. I'll give it a go myself but would like to know if you had success before I start warming up the soldering iron.
