Guys, have my S3 booked into dealer tomorrow morning as one of the xenons seems to be working one minute and not the next and they also told me there's 2 recalls on the S3.

One is a change on the ECU and one is to check the fan.

Not sure if it's ROI only but just thought I would give the heads up anyway.

Wonder what will happen to all the people that have theirs remapped? Be wiped?

You got anymore details as to which particular S3s in terms of build date are likely to be effected?.. :w00t:

No idea, I can ask tomorrow but mine was in Ireland in October 06 so it was probably built Aug/Sept whatever weeks they fall under. Whether it's all S3s or just certain build weeks though, I do not know at present.

Mine's a UK ex-demo car from Nov '06.. so again likely to have been built around Aug/Sept time I'd have thought.

If you can get anymore from the dealer 2mro, that'd be quality :icon_thumright:

Ta,

I just emailed my dealer for info. I'll post up the reply (if I even get one!)

Regards, John.

I am a my08 build. Wonder if rectified by then.

If you have a remap then yes your remap will be gone as the data files for the remap is on the ECU unless you have a Super Chips blufin because if you do then you will be able to ring them up and tell them what has happened and you will need to download the data from the new ECU and superchips will fiddle with it and you can then load it back onto the new ECU.

I dont think the ECU patch is specific to the S3, seems that many A3 and A4 owners with the 20.TFSI engine had this completed a few months ago. Suspect they have now completed testing on the S3 specific one. Hopefully it will resolve the very slightly lumpy feeling for a few mins when cold, occasional poor starting and the rpm needle sometimes taking 1-2 seconds to respond to be started. These issues are very minor but noticeable.

Speaking to a mate with the patch on his A4, he was advised it was to resolve the rough idle and some starting issues, so fingers crossed.

I recently got my 07 S3 (build week 26) so I am assuming that the ECU mod will already have been incorporated into the build.

The RPM needle point is interesting. On my car, when the ignition is turned on, both the speedo and rev counter needles dramatically shoot right round the clock and then back again. Can any new S3 owners tell me whether this has always been normal on the new S3, or is it perhaps a symptom of the updated ECU software that has been mentioned?

Just had a call back from the senior tech at the dealer. The ECU patch is to rectify an issue when the engine management light may come on for no apparent reason. They didn't mention anything else but it needs to be done on my car which is build week 50 2006.

The tech asked if the car was remapped (as if!) if it is then the ECU flash can fail requiring a replacement.

Regards, John.

Mine doesn't do that, but it might this afternoon when it's back from the dealers. I'll let you know.

Which they'd be more than entitled to charge you for :(

I had a quick glance at the job card this morning and the recall stuff was on it, one of them just said A3/TT so I'm not sure if it's S3 specific now.

Can't say I've noticed the symptoms described above, I'm more interested in having both my headlights working again.

In the meantime, I have a 2007 1.4 Astra sport, how anyone drives a 1.4 car I do not know.

Ok, an update for you all!

Dealer called to say car is ready, re the recall, it needs a new blower motor so that's on order and the ECU was done.

As I thought as per my last post, the blower motor seems be be an A3/S3/TT issue.

So the dealer will contact individual owners if update is required ?

I'm not aware of any problems with mine but may as well go for it if required.

When you say blower motor do you mean the fan that pushes air put of the dashboard vents? If so is this under the bonnet or under the dash?

I did speak to my dealer about the heater matrix as I thought mine was leaking. Swopping this requires removing the complete dashboard. I'm not that keen on having the dash removed. IMagine the squeaks and rattles afterwards.....

I assume it is the fan in the engine, otherwise the recall would either be cars with climate or cars without I guess?

I don't actually know but that would be my take on it.

Looks like mine may have to be done then, it was registered mid Jan 07 but the delaer Pdi was Nov 06.

Not noticed any problems....

Wonder if I'm contacted as its a bit ***** if it comes to word of mouth and only doing things when in the dealers for service etc.

Hi there, I wanted to know how I can check the build date for my car.

I know its not on the logbook.

Thanks in advance

Checked with the dealer today as to whether my car required any updates and if any had been done when the new lambda sensor was fitted. They said no recalls or updates have been done or required.

Mark

My dealer said that too, suspect they are not aware yet, seems the system is slow!!

Managed to get mine flashed on Friday. It doesn't do the needle sweep, but it does feel quicker. But that might have something to do with the sluggish 2.0T A4 cab they loaned me.

Regards, John.

Mine does the needle sweep and its pretty cool. I'd always want it do it. Its a good s3 feature.

Anyone know if this can be enabled using VAG COM long coding and if so in which module ?

All S3's should do this right?

Its an s3 and the needle sweep is standard.

Nope ... it would appear to be a MY08 change I think

S3's with the "needle sweep" are faster, so I hear.....

Got mine last week :w00t: and mine does do the needle sweep. Does anyone know if there were any other changes with MY08 cars?

my dealer told me to come becous i have to do a softwere update
it an "reacall"

i will told u more after i will make the update ;)

I aint having my ECU updated, mine is fine and I dont want the hassle of having to get the remap done again.

I spoke with Kim at MTM and he said there was no point in me having it done, as all they would do is flash over it again anyway...

PS. what do you mean by needle sweep, can anyone youtube it?
