RS3 8Y General Discussion Thread.

Cars delivered now seem to have it again.

I wouldn’t get too excited tho, it’s too slow at charging anyway I’ve found.

Agreed....360 cam would have been a bit more useful :)

I've read it's 7.5w wireless charging in Audi's which I wouldn't keep my phone going with maps and music etc.

If you get a cheap in car charger usb from Amazon it will be 2.1a x 12v = 24w. Btw you can get more powerful chargers eg 30w but it's gentler on your phone to charge slower and not above 80% (according to an app I use)

Isn’t USB 5V though? So the 2.1A is only 10.5W? The one built into my wall socket at home is 3.1A at 5V for USB (15.5W), so I’d have thought a 16W wireless should be enough?

Yeah Ignore me

ignoring might be a bit mean… Easy mistake, and made me seriously think about it. Haha. But I imagine in reality the inductive charger is fairly inefficient so you’re probably losing a big chunk of that 16W.

First time I’ve been out in the car today where the weather has been less than decent. Crikey, got on the M6 and a warning went off, so initially thought there was a fault……..’looked down and it told me ‘poor visibility’. Er yes, I know!! Came off the M6 and another warning……’Risk of Skidding’. Guess it’s clever but a bit OTT in my mind. Hopefully will get used to the hand holding.

Can that be switched off? And if yes, does it switch itself back on again the next time you use the car?

It could on my B9 S4, but things have changed since then and can’t remember how I got to the setting for it.

Interesting question and one that I would also like to switch off especially with the point at which it warns you, yesterday mine activated in light rain, I was on the M53 on the Wirral and could see Liverpool (about 5 miles) in the distance ***.

My Golf R only ever warned when there was snow/sleet on the radar sensor (behind the VW badge) mind you I test drove a Golf Mk8R (twice) the stability or traction control comes in very very early and needs to be switched to Sport or Off.................................thats is If you can find it on the Golfs really really really c*ap infotainment system (hence the RS3)

The 'audi pre sense' is far too sensitive as well, plus the Lane Control really used to pizz me off as well (now set to remember last setting) plus the silly whisper quiet exhaust note, plus it doesnt stay in any of the RS modes after ignition off, plus any attempt to alter an RS mode puts it straight back into 'Auto'

I hate to think what any updated model will come with on the ANM (Audi Nanny Mode) we are going to need a pre drive check list before too long to switch them all off.

Interesting thing I noticed on my road trip and having watched some of my go pro footage back, but...

I keep getting lured in to short shifting when pushing on, not sure if it's the torque wave down at low revs but in M Mode using my ears as a reference it feels more natural to pull the shift up lever at 4.5k than higher up near peak power.
In fairness I'm still probably getting used to the car/engine but I find in M I rarely rev it out fully.
Probably should've used S mode a bit more to be honest but I still like having control over the gearing.

That's the thing, I'm not looking forward to having to remember the check list. I take it this a VCDS job to get it to remember the last setting?

Yes, VCDS but fairly easy and the same as Golf

It can be but do it via long coding, not via the quite frankly dangerous 'one click craps'
Long coding is the way!

Cool. I'll hold off on vcds for now. But as an OG vag-com user I do like tweaking stuff!

This is very interesting! Be good to hear how they get on and if it’s fully functional

Gave them a message and they said we have the full set up ready to go.

Just found out it’s actually infinit performances OPF bypass they are using.

Thought another company had cracked it meaning they would start flowing out.

Which company also did it ?
So do you recon it’s safe to buy from them ? Last time it came up people didn’t recommend buying from infinit so I listened and waited for a more reputable company to offer it, is 44 trust worthy and recommended ? I’m not from the uk and new to vag (came from an M2 and BRZ) so any knowledge would help :)

Had my first experience of someone doing a proper ‘is that aa new RS3?’ interaction.

Parked up at the furthest point from the shops and when I came back there was a red A4 parked a spot away and the owner just happened to be walking back with me. He did a double take and then walked over, looked at the grill where the RS3 badge is and gave me a thumbs up when he saw it.

I fired it up in Performance mode, obviously, and he gave me a smile and another thumbs up.

Some mutual Audi appreciation going on.

He had to look at the badge to check it was an RS3 and not a base A3 huh

Pretty much. The same will happen with your 911 since they all look the same.

That’s why I’m having no badges. If you know you know

Yep. However give me 5 minutes with a hacksaw blade and I’ll sort the RS3 badge if you want.

Had the car a day and few things I noted could be better (mostly when compared to my 2017 Clio Trophy)

Have to use the gear nubbin to go back in to auto.. would be cool if you could pull both paddles to go back into auto.

Would be cool if the car locked itself when you walked away.

The VC could be so much better if you could mix and match all the different views and it stored it (this could be user error)

Google Maps doesn't come up on the HUD / VC

The USB slots in are perfectly positioned to get damaged.

The piano black gear surround.... I'll need to get that covered in alcantara or something.

The drivers side arm rest is very low.. But then I've not had many cars.

Trip to London coming up next weekend. That will get my passed the run in period. Can't wait to give it some!

Most of the points aren’t things you can really change, but for the gear shifting if you pull and hold the + paddle it will go back to auto from manual mode. Saves having to reach down for the nubbin each time.

Thanks.
I should RTFM..... Hopefully they'll fix my app soon so it links to the manual.

Look what they can do when they try, shameful of Audi to treat the RS3 like they have in the UK:

That is a great looking car but wow that price is hefty isn't it - no extra power either by the looks of it.
I'm sure they will all sell though, if not pre-sold already.

Porsche money too

£10k more than a vorsprung TTRS - but comes with sport edition alloys and free nardo paint ?
with no power increase its a bit cheeky imo - no matter how nice the car looks.
It's well into Porsche money and some on top.

O/T I also asked my dealer about the RS4 Comp, £85k before options although the UK version is spec'd by Audi so you can't add options. They are being allocated one though.
