Hi all,
I have a 2.0tdi (181bhp) and I’ve had it remapped. Should I also change the air filter to a performance one? Would it be of any benefit?
Thanks

I did, didn't make any difference really, maybe a slight increase in throttle response but nothing worth writing home about.

At least you can clean it and reuse it for life, saves landfilling old filters.

I changed the whole intake (R600) and it made absolutely no difference on dyno. The only thing I noticed is louder intake noise and dump valve.

Simple answer is no stick with a standard OE filter even with a Stage 1 remap.
This is copied from a previous post I've made, read the full thing here.

As a myth buster I requested a direct comparison of a Ramair performance panel filter vs standard Audi (Mann branded) filter. The only tweaks on the car are extra holes in the air duct guide & the snow gate is removed see here.

The results are rather interesting & speak for themselves:

Ramair panel filter- 310.4bhp(314.7PS/231.4KW) / 316.5FtLb(429.1Nm)

Standard panel filter - 309.8bhp(314.1PS/231.0KW) / 324.4FtLb(439.9Nm)

To summarise this comparison the Ramair gained 0.6bhp & lost 10.8ftlb. As a driver you basically wouldn’t feel any difference between them & this is why I wanted the comparison simply to prove a point.

i have a RAMAIR induction kit fitted to my 2.0 TDI which is also mapped. no noticeable difference (fitted the induction kit after the map)

just sounds louder on idle and you can hear more whoosh noises from the turbo.

Thanks for all of your replies. I'm going to save myself some money and keep the original one.

Technically if you keep the car over say three years, you dont save money and imo it's good to think about landfill for consumable items when they can be avoided. Paper air filters can be recycled, but it's difficult and ends up adding cost so many firms/councils just don't.
