For the people that have collected their rs3, what tyres did they come with? My carbon came with Pirelli p-zeros but Iv seen a few with bridgestones.

My LE has Pirelli p zero AO fitted. First couple hundred miles were a bit dicey (although it was rather cold and wet too) but have since improved.

Didn’t realise people had a particular problem with them… I was just reporting how they were on my rs3 - they feel pretty hard compound ime, certainly harder than my Michelin ps4s I’ve had before or Goodyear ass3 I’ve also had previously too (although the Goodyear were delightfully quiet). All the same size in 19s.

It was an uneven wear issue on the 8V. You could have 6mm on the outside and be through to the cords on the inside. Pirelli never seemed to come up with a fix.

My 7.5 Golf R was the same, front left, around 4.5mm to cords on the inside, alignment check said all was OK

RS3s tyres a lot wider than your previous car tyre's??

Wtf really?!!

That’s mental… mine was even wear left to right… you hit a pothole(!??!

Literally mine was spot on so you must have hit something?!!!!

That sounds like an alignment “issue”. It not a tyre problem imho.

Looks great! My spec just wrong colour.

Shouldn't it have a black roof though?

TX.

Black roof is for the better looking saloon only :tonguewink:

It was the tyres. Have a look at some of the threads about it on here. A shocking and pretty scary number of stories that Audi failed to acknowledge.

Wouldn't worry about it on the 8Y - it seemed specific to the FL 8V.

Yeah it was the tyres Pirelli gave me free tyres as everything checked out fine with alignment, tracking etc. they just don’t work on the 8V. However they do look the best.

Mine is pfl, it had the same issue.

Zero acknowledgment about it from Audi though. Swept under the showroom tiles lol.

Long thread on this very forum, again amounted to zero in the end.

I have went through 3 full sets of Pzeros on my Fl S3 saloon and then had Pzeros on my TTS...not one problem with them apart from the factory fitted set they didn't last that long 10k miles but l was told by 2 tyre fitters that this was down to the extra ordinary hot summer we had back in 2018 got my car S3 in October 2017
So l would assume the RS3 8v had wheel alignment issue's or a bad batch of oem tyres ?

As kayemill said above, the alignments were not an issue. You can find dozens of threads and posts on here about it.

I am glad that you didn't suffer any problems with yours because it was no fun worrying about it when on long journeys with my kids in the car. At the time I wasn't sure if it would happen again with the Michelins, having found the Pirelli's down to the chords.

Pirelli was very good throughout everything though, often replacing tyres and sending off the bad ones to be inspected.

I dont think I have ever had a 'bad tyre' what do you mean by 'bad tyre'?

I took this from a previous thread on here. If you are bored you can go and have a look. The bottom line was that this issue only occurred when using the Pirellis - it was never replicated with any other brand (As far as I can remember).

Pirelli found the tyres within their tolerances and Audi refused to acknowledge any problem with the geometry or setup of the car.

It seemed quite specific to the way that particular car used those particular tyres, so likely not an issue with the 8Y. I am still hoping I get Bridgestones though!

Really hope we don't get this with the 8Y - isn't the camber angle further increased as well?
My RS5 did wear all 4 insides but I didn't keep it long enough to investigate. No wear as bad as the above though, just tapered wear.

Devils advocate here……

If you were going on a long trip and that worried wouldn’t you just put lock on and check the fronts anyway ?

I used to do this weekly before swapping to the Goodyears anyway.

Just sayin’

It just made the long journeys I did a bit more stressful. My daughter was newly born and I was having to do a lot of motorway miles with her and I didn't want a blowout. I was having to check the tyres all the time and it was just a bit of a pain in the ****.

Thanks for that, so no problem with tyre or alignment, really looks like the car toes out under power to do that to the tyre, my Golf7.5R did the same, I checked the tracking my self with my trusty Dunlop optical gauge and all was OK but got VW to do the same, the only thing that was slightly out was FNS camber slightly too much negative camber, but not adjustable anyway :)

Specifically what Pirelli’s was it? I presume it was just a specific model of tyre at that time?

If it was specific to the Pirelli’s could you not have just fitted a different tyre?

For peace of mind it seems a simple “solution” if geometry is spot on and it’s just those tyres…

Last thing you’d want to be worrying about in that situation eh, totally get that
