All videos I’ve seen on YouTube show the bigger virtual cockpit to have different design dials whereas the smaller virtual cockpit has blue dials. So is it totally different design on the bigger cockpit? I assumed it was just bigger but it all looks different

The smaller 10-5 inch virtual cockpit is taken from the new A1 Ie blue background and does look a little small in the dash

Yes it's more configurable with different layouts 12-5 only available on Vorsprung models on the 8y
Do you think Audi are likely to make the bigger cockpit standard in the future the longer the 8y has been out? Or is that not something they usually do? For example if I don’t buy an s3 for 6 months or so, Audi might change the spec

The 12-5 inch cockpit will become a option only upgrade come facelift time or they'll do it as standard but up the price...the 10-5 inch screen put a lot of 8v owners off buying the 8Y myself included the virtual cockpit on the 8v was a £1295 option so Audi wont give it away for nowt on the 8y come facelift time.....MY2023 models may have it as option but you'll need to wait til the tail end of May this year to find out as that's when MY2023 spec's come out

Ah may isn’t too far away so that’s good. The current Spec is every strange for example the 1.5 having the bigger cockpit etc and better spec than a £40k s3

This has been my argument for some time now - Bearing in mind the VC+ has the dynamic dials which surely should be on the S3 not 1.5 Edition 1

Don’t dis the 1.5! and don’t lose sleep over not having the dynamic dials. They are not much use and I soon reverted back to the sport clocks.

It was more the fact the standard s3 has the old a1 dash and the plus is a totally different design

I would not worry about it. Everyone on here would question some of Audi spec choices though the range and would agree the S3 should probably have the bigger VC but there has to be some spec differences between the S3 and S3 Vorspung!
There is nothing wrong with the standard S3 clocks (it actually shows you the engine water temp where mine does not).
What do you currently drive? Chances are the clocks in the S3 will be better than the cars in your current car. I came from a Golf GTD and grumbled about some of the toys I was loosing and that was going to an Ed1 with extras I paid for. Have a change of thought and embrace what you are thinking of purchasing and enjoy the S3. It will be a lovely car.

I have no complaints whatsoever about the smaller VC. It’s the best dash’ I have ever had. I could see how those who are coming from a car with the larger display could feel that they are downgrading, but for everyone else, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Not really any difference, once you have driven a few months it does not matter provided you can see the dials...edition 1 they came standard so I guess I know no different!..... Audi would have blown the market away had they put a 3rd screen instead of the long vents for the passenger, using the MMI whilst driving is a big no no!!..its certainly dangerous as the position of it is too low and takes your eyes away from the road....having a small screen opposite the passenger would mean they could select satnav/music/radio.....some of the controls on the steering wheel are limited....try choosing a different music folder via the wheel...it does not happen, so unless all your music is in one folder you cannot change it via the wheel controls....voice controls can be hit and miss,,,and no gesture control??!!!.....the cabin of the A3 looks good, yet the seats are plastic bottles and the doors are bandages all recycled!!! stick a couple of cheap Chinese screens in and you have a good place to sit!!....VW are still sucking up the exhaust emissions scandal..this cost VW a reported $30bil so do not expect any reductions anytime soon!...The A3 is the new Golf as VW need to sell as many as possible, hence why the Audi is about a grand more than the Golf 8....many will ignore the golf and purchase the Audi A3...because of the `chip shortage` new cars are slow in production, this should end but due to covid Audi told me they would not recover for at least 2 years, we could even go back to `if you want a German car then you would need to travel to Germany to get one!....Audi are not sure where Brexit we leave us....come to think of it the government dont know that answer either!!!......one thing is for sure these cars will not get cheaper in price, just cheaper in build quality.....Audi cars could get the tag `Amstrad Audi`....the entry level A3 and even the top spec ones are not to the standard they should be in build quality, they look the part until you dig around and feel the difference!,,,,,,I was loaned a Seat Ateca and the mats were thicker, softer than the A3, yet Seat is owned by VW!!!!...some of the tech on the Seat was the same as the Audi, yet Seat dont make a big deal of it they just include it!..... bottom line is if Audi is not a `premium` brand then do not charge a premium price, the A1 and A3 and probably the A4 should not be on a par with a Seat or Golf, just because the rings on the grill.....Audi has a good chance of shooting itself in the foot with this car, which as yet has not had a proper release because of covid....on the outside most will be happy with the car, but dig deeper and you might wish you spent your cash elsewhere, and saved a few quid.
