AUDI S5 intermittent engine rattle

Hi All,

Please see the engine rattle in the video below:



The car is an AUDI S5 2011 3.0 V6 supercharged. The rattle has been intermittent. I took it into the main Audi Garage on this Friday and typically the noise didnt happen so audi gave the car a clean bill of health only really noticing the pads were a bit low.

I cant work out if it's the timing chain or not. It doesnt sound like a timing chain as that's more of a constant rattle whereas this sounds different.

Any advice or help would be really appreciated!!!

Sorry I can't help, but it's definitely not a typical chain rattle, and if it was one of the chain guides you'd expect it all the time. Sounds almost like a stuck tappet.

Is there a scenario it's most likely to appear? warm/cold?

It is strange really.

It started when cold, then went to both warm and cold it would do it. Then went away for a bit but then would do it once the car had walmed up.

Then it went away for a week and came back now to doing it both cold and warm.

I agree it doesnt sound like a chain but have no clue what it is!!
