Hello everyone! Registered so I could make this post as I am having issues with my RS, a company that worked on it and Audi.

I've been into Audi with a gearbox issue I've been having, car is a 2018 RS3 8V Saloon and it keeps dropping out of 3/5 gear and I'm getting a "contact your local Audi dealer message" on my dash.

I had Audi assist out, he said it could be software problem after connecting up his computer, and that he could only recover me to the nearest Audi dealer, which is where the car was left to be looked at.

I had a phone call from the dealer saying that its actually the Mechatronic unit that's at fault, ok i say, car is under warranty so it's not an issue, well it turns out it is an issue as Audi have revoked it!

A few months back i had a software update performed by a guy off facebook, Simon who owns Leeds / South Wales Vag Diagnostics, seemed legit at the time and i had it as a package with other updates he said were required together with a few tweaks.

After investigating the issue the dealer submitted a request for authorisation for warranty works to be completed but Audi Germany have rejected the request. As part of a request the dealership is required to supply any and all supporting information and Audi Germany have completed a full audit and found that the updates were completed by a source that isn't dealer approved, completed offline, and because of this they have voided my warranty for everything on the car that had these updates, gearbox, engine module, MMI system!!!!

I'll now need to fork out nearly 3k to have new mechatronic unit to get my car on the road again !

I've messaged Simon who said he was official, and has public lability insurance, but now said he just uses official software which he insisted is "basically" the same thing as being "official", and have since been blocked by Leeds / South Wales Diagnostics on social media! It was paid by cash so no trail to follow either, works were completed in a neutral location.

The only comfort I can take from this horrible situation is that Audi UK / Germany say that they have taken an interest in this situation and "official" company and will be investigating the matter.

So if you are thinking of having any work done and your car is in warranty I'd please do your research.

Yikes! :crying:

Out of interest what was the 'software update' that Simon did?

Sad to say I was waiting for a post like this one day, @T-1000 will have been also. Chances are audi will not help no matter how much you try as they have a clear reason. The only thing I can suggest is you look to an Audi specialist as they should be able to complete the job for a good chunk less as the actual mechatronic is around 1k if I recall correctly.

Unfortunately being an official vag repairer that connects to the vag mothership for latest available updates and using official updates available to download over the internet isn’t the same thing.
your car will have a TD1 flag as well for life, there’s no way to remove it. Might make it difficult to sell or trade in back into the Audi network.
essentially you are being treated like you have remapped the engine/dsg.
as mentioned a local specialist will be able to repair at less than half that.

Hmmm, a fresh new account, that was created a few days ago, posting on a site that Simon cannot see because he’s not a member of the forum, as he was removed because competition isn’t allowed on this page and only sponsors who pay are allowed to help people. I’ve asked Simon to check all his spam message folders on Facebook and on both his personal account and business account pages, and there is no message of this nature, I’m pretty sure he has never received a complaint in his life?

Sounds like this is something ****** up by Vag car coding (DJAlix) out of jealousy for wiping the floor with London, or one of his many arselickers such as T-1000 (since he “upgraded” himself from t-800 - LOL talk about a superiority complex)!

No doubt this reply will be deleted but I will make sure screenshots are sent over of the full thread to be posted on the relevant Facebook pages for his actual customers to see, no skin off his nose!

Don’t go bring me in to this, am way to busy to worry about anything other than my own business and I don’t play games.

“Wiping the floor with London”? What language is this?

edit:

just been made aware of posts going around on Facebook blaming me for this. Guys, this is nothing to do with me and the only reason I popped in to this thread is because I have “key words” setup in the forum settings to send me alerts which someone triggered. Never even knew the company in question was planning to work in London and to be honest could not care less.

Sounds more like slander at the moment than anything else? Why haven't you posted any screenshots or anything about this?
Personally id be asking Simon to revert the software to see if that sorts the issue - but if its dropping out of gear then maybe it should be taken to a garage to inspect the gearbox and find the actual fault other than "its the mechatronics". If only the odd gears aren't working then maybe its the clutch for example.

DH Automotive are the group sponsor here, correct? They're a very good garage and they're good at what they do (P.S A friend of mines gearbox was doing the exact same and it was the clutch because he was driving the car too hard, maybe you've caused the damage and blaming someone else to get the pay-out? his claim from Audi warranty was also rejected, except his software wasn't touched anyways).

Don't worry about it. Your name will help you... guru! BTW I smell bull....

I have seen hundreds of posts from people who have had work done by Simon and never heard a single complaint. Im sure if you had an issue and contacted Simon direct he would have done everything in his power to help you, but instead you did him a dis service, by complaining about him in public. Just bad vibes man. Not cool. Not cool at all.

what’s your boggle ?

Don’t know you from Adam.

Lol I love how you quote a line from a nasty thread on a FB group I was shown.

Let’s set the record straight, I’m not a moderator, I didn’t ‘ban’ anyone, I merely answered a question of another member at that time asking where he had gone, and that answer of mine was screenshot out of context in that group.

Upgrade from one user name to another, what are you on about ? I was banned for a while, so when I asked to join again Sandra told me to pick another user name which I did, although it seems you have pinched that line from another user who posted it first in that nasty thread Simon started after getting booted from here.

Sequence is correct above though in what he says.

Very surprised to hear this. Simon is well known on other Audi forums - I've only heard good things about him.

I read good things about simon also and was happy to use him. The mechatronic problem is obviously not his fault but the resulting warranty situation I find myself in is.

I was not aware of Simons history on this forum and am not surprised now from my experience.

I considered a second opinion on the issue but need the car on the road and as I have a PCP arrangement I thought it best to have Audi take care of any repairs.

Out of interest, why didn't you get your software update done at the Audi dealer if it was still under warranty? They would have done it for free.

Dealers like Audi, BMW etc etc will not do software updates unless deemed “necessary”, TT ah is why there are so many 3rd parties out there that offer services such as DSG, MMI, OS, etc updates and turning on of functionality such as CarPlay, high beam assist etc etc

No disrespect to the OP but like some of the replies above, I am a little suspicious. Don't know Simon at all but have seen many, many positive endorsements over the last couple of years.

I Have a real world own experience on this front. I had Full Screen CarPlay coded on my BMW X3M40i. No issues. Car went in to dealer for some
Minor warranty work. They chose to update the OS and or Head Unit software as part of an advisory. Head unit then wouldn’t boot and or finish install which meant no Nav and obv. CarPlay. They quoted £1500 for new head unit. Contacted ddcoding who did the CarPlay install and he fixed it in about 5 mins remoting in with my laptop connected to car. BMW did say my headunit would not have warranty anymore. Anyway, ended up selling the car back to them last year. They knew all about it and weren’t in the bit concerned.

On a different note but related, had a number of things done by @DJAlix on my 2018 Q5. Reversing camera, speed camera dB, dashcams Installed, MMI updated etc etc…no
Issues and same again when it went into the dealer and never skipped a beat

I didn’t really think about audi doing the updates
I’d already approached Simon about it and he mentioned he had several updates that were part of a package, so it seemed a good idea at the time, Less so now though.

This really isn't simons fault one bit. Audi won't like you coding the car regardless who it's from... apart from themselves. Will they even do it?
