1.5 tfsi real world mpg

Cold morning, crawling traffic, mainly up hill, 5 mile commute: Lucky if I get 30mpg
Leeds to Whitby, ok traffic: 40-45mpg
Smooth motorway run sat on cruise control: 48-52mpg

I leave mine in 'Auto' mode all the time, sometimes pop it in Sport when going over the moors but not really sure how much difference it makes to power or economy.

Hi, newbie
I was reading this thread to ascertain how the 1.4(best all round engine I've ever driven) compares to the newer 1.5 and chanced on this thread.
Had my A3 1.4 150bhp from new, now 5 yrs old, 66k on clock, not had slightest issue ever over 5 yrs and trip computer shows 26mph and 47.9mpg.
I drive it all over the Lakes and Scotland ( lots of hills) & drive it usually around 2000 revs or under.
Dead simple, drive it smooth, change up at 1500 revs ( which engine readily accepts) & I get all the real world forward progress I need. I'm now looking to change car and wouldn't have slightest issue getting this engine again in my new car-perfect combination of performance when needed, incredible flexibility and smoothness belaying it's 1.4 credentials and brilliant mpg.
I'm it's biggest fan ever which is why I've registered to give my two penneth real world account.

I've now got 12K on the clock. 48/50mpg is my norm. At 50mph restricted motorway speeds I was showing 73mpg last year when I pulled off the motorway on a Devon to Merseyside run. When I brimmed the tank next day it was over 69mpg. Towing 1200kg at similar low speeds on a good motorway run I've now seen a true 40mpg.

Agreed, I use an app which tells me exactly how many mog I get every time I fill the tank and in normal weather its usually 49-53mpg and in winter 46-48mpg

Well I must be doing something completely different. I have a 1.4 COD. I dont do any motorway driving, all mine is round town and I get 55mpg easily. I have had some updates and a brand new turbo fitted over a year ago but i dont think that would change anything.

Agreed, it's all down to the way people drive(usually heavy footed)

My long term over 13k miles from new on a 1.5 tsi kangaroo edition 130ps was 37mpg

On a smooth 65mph cruise, I'd get around mid 50s from my old 1.4 TFSI CoD. The same drive in my S3 is 42mpg.

Long term 1.4 average was 46mpg, incidentally just a few mpg behind a Lexus CT200 hybrid I had before.

Mind you, depreciation usually costs far more than fuel economy differences - depending on the age of the car!
