wonder what Audi dealers will charge for all that + labour. Must be close to £7-800

Well, started the oil changes yesterday and started with the Haldex, and rear diff - the Haldex oil was filthy, the strainer and housing were full of debris which I assume is friction material, as it is soft and mushy, not at all metallic. worrying signs!!

the housing was dirty

which soon cleaned

Why worrying signs May I ask ? Is it not functioning as expected ?

the strainer was also filthy
Hadex oil change pump removal

strainer removed

Haldex oil change pump removal strainer 1 dirty

but again soon cleaned

Haldex oil change pump removal strainer 2 clean

and replaced

Haldex oil change pump replacement

The diff oil change went well, the oil dropping out nice and clean the only thing is, it definitely needs a litre, I spilt some ( not much at all) and have had to break into my second litre whereas even after a brief run the Haldex only needed a spot and there is some oil left from the 850 ml I bought

Its always nice to find nice clean oil, and I have never found this much debris before, it has done 16K without being changed so maybe this is normal. however I have watched several utube videos and have not seen this much debris. I assume that it is wear on the multi plate clutch linings and that the strainer is doing its job, stopping it being pumped back into the clutch, the strainer is not completely blocked so hopefully no harm done.

In summary it was a shock, I will plan to change the oil again in 6 months and then I will be able to judge what if anything unto wards is going on,

Don’t worry I’ve seen cars a lot worse than yours.

So moved to the front yesterday and changed the oil in the front diff, this thing is difficult to get at with the 2 plugs almost being hidden up behind the roll bar and subframe. Cleaned round the plugs with a paint brush and set off.
here's the drain plug
Front diff drain plug
Here's the fill plug
Front diff filler plug
oil draining
Front diff draining
oil out
Front diff old oil
new oil
Front diff new oil
There was no way you could put the plug back in with your fingers so here's the wobble bar to put filler plug back in
Front diff wobble bar fill plug
When I was almost finished I was above the car and my light was still under the car, to my surprise you can see these drain and fill plugs through the wheel, I would have a go at removing them with the wheel off and a long bar through the wheel arch, IF I ever did this job again!!!!!

what was the colour of the new oil?
Will be good to see a comparison to see how dirty the old oil was

Not too clear I know but this was the oil out the new was in the container
Front diff old oil
the replacement was almost clear and in the sealed container until the last second before being pumped back in

Well took a deep breath and tackled 'the big one' today
Started by removing the drain plugs and leaving it to drain, the main DSG plug had some debris on it that I assume is clutch plate.
DSG plug with debris
I then removed the the battery, air box and battery tray
DSG removed items
Which leaves quite a big hole
DSG hole left
I then removed the filter, this is where it lives, note on the facelift the filter housing is horizontal and you cant use it to fil through.
DSG this is where the filter lives
Comparison of old and new filters
DSG filter removed
DSG filter housing cleaned
DSG filter housing
A bit of house keeping
DSG a bit of housekeeping
Some dirty oil
DSG oil out
New plugs fitted
DSG new mecatronic plug
My fill system (no bru left Jassy!)
DSG fill system
DSG drain addaptor filling
Clean oil overflow after running oil up to 35 °C
DSG clean oil overflow
All in all not too bad a job really, don't know if it's me imagining things but I definitely think it sounds quieter and is much smoother on shifting, I have only driven round the estate!

Super stuff, looking forward to doing my Haldex service next month and plan on doing the DSG service later this year possibly next along with f+r diffs. Fresh fluids and filters are never a bad thing and just not worth cutting corners and not servicing these items when it's a fairly straight forward job for the more practical home mechanic :racer:

Look what postie delivered this morning
Brake fluid change ATE200
I pondered quite a bit on brake fluid because I wanted to use as good a fluid as was practical and buy it from somewhere that was turning their stock over and delivering fresh fluid so that I could get as much life out of it as possible. So as you can see I bought ATE 200 racing quality which I am told is the replacement for ATE blue racing and bought it from Competition Brake Motorsport as I assume they turn their stock over more than a local Audi dealer or motorfactors.

There's no getting one past you @Harvey, that's why I put in a smaller font, It gets on my chest the way these people add Racing or sport to product names in some vain hope it bolsters sales, if you look at the photo of the cans Racing Quality is in the small red highlight, I would love to know what's racing quality about a small red box on the can. I know I know its supposed to be boiling point etc. etc. For me its what Audi use and should be fresh.

That racing quality is just joke as the bottle manufacturers laughed by themselves just to increase sales :innocent:

So, finally changed the brake fluid yesterday and all went relatively smoothly, I used the old tried and tested pedal pumping method as I could not find any sensible reviews of reasonably priced auto bleeders, also Audi specify a bleed pressure of 2 bars and most of these auto bleeders cannot operate at this pressure! So my very patient wife was enlisted again so sit in the car and pump, (oo er muisses!) so after covering EVERYTHING with cling film and towels all went smoothly starting at the front - again as Audi recommend we pushed a litre of fluid through without issue. ( - other than access to the bleed nipples on the rear calipers was a bit awkward and I had to try various spanners before I was happy, I eventually used a small 1/4" socket to 'crack' the nipple a normal open ender to to the bleeding at an angle and then finally tighten with the socket again when finished, mental note to self, I have 2 years to come up with a better solution the nipple is 11 mm AF (3/8"???) almost want something like a French tube spanner - more late night surfing!! )
The fluid that came out was a dirty greenish colour which I have not seen before which was a bit weird.
As @Harvey said in an earlier post the pedal feel has improved dramatically and another peace of mind job is complete and that is the end of my list of fluids to change, It has been fairly time consuming but I now know what is what and I have the peace of mind that everything has been done as well as I can do it at the moment.

As far as I know, its the same axle oil for front and rear diffs. Is this correct?

Is it the same axle oil (G 052 145 S2) for all 8v diffs? Mine is a 2016 150tdi quatrro, is that the correct diff oil?

Anyone know the correct part number for the oil for the 6 speed manual gearbox?

The front & rear diffs are all 75w90, lists this spec in ETKA. I've got some Millers CRX 75w90 NT that my diffs well be getting treated too. The fill/drain bolts with washers are part no.N90281802, you require 2x per diff.

Hi sorry, been away, this is what I bought for my 2017 FL S3:-
6 X 1 l of DSG oil AG 055 529 A2
2 X 1 l of differential oil AG 052 145 S2 (front and rear same)
1x 0.85 l of Haldex oil AG 060 175 A2
+ all necessary Plugs washers and filters
all bought through Tom @creweaudiparts

So its now 10 months and approx. 5 000 miles since I changed the fluid in the Haldex so this week during my 'annual' service I have changed the fluid again so that I can see what is going on.

Assembled service kit
Service kit Fluid pump
New magnetic drain plug from Bar TEK 'O' ring stock And my trusty tight spaces fluid pump

Fluid out Remnants in fluid
The oil was dropped for inspection, nothing much to report here

Pump removal
And then the pump removed using some new long series Torx bits
improved access to the fixings this time

Strainer removal Strainer clean
Strainer as removed and cleaned for replacement

Anti sieze paste Bar tek plug fitted
New Alloy bolts treated to anti seize paste Sexy new magnetic drain bolt fitted

So all in all nothing to report, very little debris in the strainer and housing and fluid fairly clean on removal, just what you would expect after almost 5 000 miles

Is it me or a bad pic, the oil that came out looks pretty black, would have expected after 5k the oil should be clear. The gauze looks good so I think 10k/1year is a good time to service the haldex.
good job and keep us updated to see if the magnetic drain plugs makes any difference to the muck on the gauze.

I think it's more like a bad picture with the light behind it, (mental note to self for next time) I would happily have put that back in!!!! there was very little debris in the bottom of the jug and it seemed soft and non metallic so I don't think there will be much on the magnet, in fact at the price it is I probably should have done (£40.00 lt)
