Yeah my Dad bought a new on in 1984.
Montego HLS in blue.
2 litre I think.
At the time I though it was the dogs lol
But you’re right, it was always going wrong.
My Dad was a Ford man through and through although his last new car he bought was a VW MK5 Golf GT in a blue shade very similar to lapiz Blue

I understand that. Maybe I’ve come across too many ‘mines bigger than yours’ types or mines worth £20k. Just not something I’ve ever thought of spending £0000s on but like vanity plates. I do rather like nice looking things just never really got the watch thing but respect others choice to do so.

I’d say my watches are relatively subtle and definitely not blingy. I don’t know what it is but I’ve always been attracted to watches, even as a kid.

Was bought a private plate as a 21st birthday present, my girlfriends dad at the time had a haulage co all with private reg’s. Mine is on retention as wouldn’t look good on the Mrs C3. I didn’t put it on my S3 as thought that drew enough attention from boy racers as it was but it did go on the MX5.

My Dad was also a Ford man with only 2 transgressions. Renault 16 GL 1970-72 and a VW Polo 2002- 2010, fortunately he gave up driving!

Was into everything when in my late teens/early twenties then into Vauxhalls with GTE & SRI, but then as I got older I went back to Ford and owned a few including four Focuses, last one an 04 reg, don't make them like they used too.

Be a good idea, only thing is I would start to kick myself wishing I knew then what I know now, such as owning these iconic cars =
1275GT Mini, Mk2 Escort 2.0 pinto, Peugeot 205 1.9GTI, Astra Mk2 GTE.

Little go cart they were, mine was black "V" reg, so simple to work on. I sold it to a guy who went on to start his own car sales business.

Ah the GTE
1 x 1.8 1 x 2.0 16v 1 x 2.0 8V and a GSi 2.0 16v loved them all.
Had also a P reg ecotec Calibra then a Calibra as a project with a porus coscast head that I stripped down and repaired.

The 16v red top engine was a first with its SFi technology.

S3 is usually between the 135 and the a35. Fingers crossed the s3 gets the golf mk8 drivetrain in the future updates

I called down to my local VW showroom today, obviously I couldn’t get inside but I could clearly see the new R and GTI Clubsport sitting there. I’ve got to say having seen both in the metal now, I wouldn’t change my TCR for either.

yes I totally get what you’re saying and been discussed a few times in the R forum. For me I had to change as my lease was up. I was more than happy with my 7.5R but it was going so needed a replacement. In saying that for me the 7/7.5 is starting to look a little dated as it’s been around for a while. The wife has an a35 and I’ve driven the m135i. My now departed 7.5R held its own against those which is testament to how good the car is.

I am reassured by the reviews of the 8R though. I like the look of it, I will get used to the much bemoaned infotainment system and it appears to go like stink.

I think the 7.5 interior and exterior have both dated very well, as a previous A35 owner myself anything would look dated in comparison to that, at least internally.

The current car market is a real conundrum, most new models don’t offer that much over the previous generation but they are much more expensive. And In fact some models such at the new A3/S3, and 4 series BMWs are much worse than their previous generation.

I can’t recall seeing a new S3 on the road yet, and I have only seen one of the new 4 series. This could be done to the current situation, but I can’t help but think it’s due to a lot of people having similar views.

I have the new S3 but did say to my wife the other day I haven't seen another one.

To be fair it was only available to order from August and our dealer had 3 demo's on order in the middle of September, but 1 hadn't been factory locked so they agreed to change it to our spec and we picked it up middle of November - We did get a really good deal including the 3 months on us as delviered before the end of the year.

My local dealer has 3 of them, a friend is a salesman at the dealership and said they can’t shift them at all. Only had a handful of enquires none of which has turned into a sale.

I'm surprised as the other A3's are clearly selling and lots of people will be coming to the end of Lease/PCP

When we picked ours up they'd sold the other 2 straight away - They did say that they sell a lot of S3's anyway - Just depends sometimes I suppose.

Yes it's had it's teething issues and Audi are certainly not as good as they used to be especially customer service but they will still sell cars - We all know it

I’ve not seen a new a3 on the road yet, let alone an S3. I imagine it’s the changing taste. Previous a3 buyers are going suv into the q3 type cars and ev are spiking an interest.

I'm yet to see a new A3 or S3 on the road yet, I've only seen a single new shape 4 series.

BMWs are the biggest selling models among the German brands in NI, so only seeing one is quite significant.

I drove a m440i before lockdown froze test drives and it’s the most impressive car I’ve driven in a long time. Handled beautifully, superb tech and build quality on the interior and the b58 is an absolute peach. What I would say was I couldn’t really detect any performance difference between my fl310 S3 which did surprise me a little

Seen a several A3s over the past weeks and an S3 today.

They aren’t flooding the market but neither are other brands - most are on limited manufacturing. Curiously back in the autumn I did see 9 Teslas in one weekend - purely whilst I was on foot. EVs are a new player on the block.

I suspect a lot of folk are waiting to see how the economy goes before committing, though that is at odds with the high number of people relying on PCP for their cars and forced churn after year 3 or 4.

Yea I’ve seen lots of model 3’s recently. Also a lot of mk8 golfs and facelift Tiguans. Looking forward to having a drive of a Tiguan r. Had a 2016 Tiguan r line before the S3 and was a great car but was painfully slow. They may have solved that problem. Quite happy with a mk8 r if they come up on good lease deals again. Sound like a riot to drive

No potential S3 buyer would consider a tesla model most tesla cars are for the fleet market tribe fact, considering the 8y S3 actually only hit our showrooms in November plus the fact its of a marmite design....ergo not a common site...yet seen a lot of 8y A3"s though
Besides going by factory order lead times its a slow process for the 8y customers why l aint gonna guess but my car was ordered late January and is now being built delivery expected early next month no hold ups there

Yet another carwow review where he messes up the acceleration times...
How can a "experienced car reviewer" not acknowledge (understand ?) that 0-60 is not the same as 0-62.1
He keeps on showing the 0-62.1 claimed by the car maker as a 0-60 time, measuring the 0-60 and being surprised how much the car is faster than the specs suggest...

PS.: yes, the golf 8 r is pretty fast.

Any reviews I’ve seen says it drives really well, however I went to look at one on Sunday and I thought it was really bland looking, certainly not something I would drop £40k+ on.

After owning a 350z I vowed never to have another Nissan but this looks tasty ....

Doesn’t matter anyway though ... as this car is NOT coming to Europe !

Typical, that looks quite nice.

I'm waiting for the showrooms to open again to test drive a Supra, I really like how they look but no idea how they drive.

Yeah it looks surprisingly good that doesn’t it - very sleek & modern inside & out plus likely 400bhp.

I like the Supra externally but just not sure about its interior ... that’s where the Nissan has scored, it’s looks very stylish inside whereas the Supra looks a bit too plasticky & busy inside from what I’ve seen.

It's pretty much a BMW inside, same screen, same switches etc.
