Retrofit Footwell Lighting

Did you use the oem sockets mate ? I got my kit from Rocket Wires as well and the lights don't seem to reach the inner corners towards the dash in the front as Audi decided to put the sockets on the outer sides towards the doors... However, huge thanks to Rob from Rocket Wires for supplying me with the kit and the help throught the installation. Waiting to receive an adapter for the cup holder cable and will install it as well.

Yes I used the OEM sockets. Plenty of length on the wires. What I don’t like about the sockets being off to one side is, the light is mainly shining on the corners of the footwells. I would prefer it to be in the middle of the footwells so the light is equal. I suppose you could either cut a new socket in the middle or attach them with Velcro.

I fancied doing the cup holder upgrade as well but way too much work. Far easier to buy a used centre console from eBay with the OEM ones.

@ScottishA4B9 yours seem to distribute the light further than mine mate. I also used the OEM sockets, however on a RHD the light doesn't seem to reach the gas pedal. Rob suggested ordering the 8p version and cutting the plastic to have them the same as rear ones, but it seemed to much work for me. I will try post a video or pics after I set the cup-holder.

He did say that the 8P ones were brighter but he got new LEDs (which I’ve got in mine) and he said you couldn’t tell any difference.

Thanks for the details of this - it's a retrofit that I was thinking about doing... but can I ask a question - when is the light actually on - is it on all the time, or only when the main interior lighting is on?

you can have it either way by coding it with VCDS.

I have mine on all the time. I just simply ticked a box on OBDEleven. Really that simple.
Yeah, for me though, I wouldn't want them on all the time - I prefer the inside of the car to be as dark as possible when driving (at night) it actually annoys me that I can't turn the instrument panels down more than I can! But good to know they can be coded to suit personal preference.
