Starter delay ?

Noticing, when cold, turning the key , to 'start' there can be a slight delay , before the starter
turns the engine over ..may be a count of 'one' .. ok later when hot

Startup test's finished and display showing OK

Starter motor on its way out ? 180K miles

Tnx -Graham

Any joy with this, when it starts does it struggle to get going or just the first turn on

normal at the moment, no delay
once it turns over , was as if nothing had happen, engine ran/runs fine
just as if the key had just been turned
could be the starter solenoid , or the starter contact on the ignition switch .... probably , at this age .. the solenoid

what is the cct , key direct to starter or relays and fuses in the path ?

definitely fibrillation inducing , until it turns over ..

Tnx-Graham

Cold weather and age.

The starter motors are old and accumulate gunk over time so the solenoid won’t engage the flywheel as quickly. Ditto for retracting after the engine has started and that’s often the reason for those that have the post-start grinding noise.

Had the same with the 80CD , in that, the started contacts on the switch also failed ,
that was wired directly ., needed a re-con started ..next on the list ..

During the heat wave last summer , the door closed indicator failed to work , showed open and the top of the info display faded out

Both are common age issues - mine did that too. Had to turn off the interior light to avoid battery drain.
