What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

Happy enough?

Spacers is one thing I am considering with my BBS offset. Interested to hear how you get on and prices etc if you don't mind sharing

I think so, quite happy with the overall look and should be no issues with rubbing. The front spacers are H&R purchased from Performance Alloys and they were around £85ish delivered. Great service from them too. A little on the expensive side but well worth the money for the quality and piece of mind.

Also bought a quality set of bimecc extended 50mm bolts too, at £30ish

Excellent, thanks for that. Good to hear they're the job and and PA were good too, they're local to me too

Ordered new gas shocks for boot, new set of mats, entire new thermostat inc housing, new aftermarket armrest lid (there are two types), new wiper blades.

I also suspect that the battery is on the way out too, they way it very slowly turned over whilst starting this morning.

Just a new pollen filter today.

Interesting day trying to piece together what work has actually been done to the car and what is just not true. A lot of Audi history and then a lot of ‘other garage’ history with boxes randomly ticked so far.

However, a stack of actual receipts is helping and it looks like it’s had new toothed belt and a gearbox oil change about 6 years ago but needs a service soon inc plugs and filters. Some of which I will do myself.

So slowly getting a list of things that need doing together and have booked it in to get the thermostat done tomorrow. (I did watch YouTube vids but i don’t have all the tools and I still also like my knuckles with skin on).

All in all enjoying ownership!

New thermostat has been fitted and has immediately sorted the temp issue.

New mats arrived as did a new armrest lid, both of which have been fitted, so thats the interior pretty much perfect now. Will take a pic tomorrow as it's pouring down and dark now.

(Vaguely) interestingly is that its fitted with a Concert radio but in the glovebox is a manual for a Symphony. Anyone know the codes to tell you what was factory fitted?

If it turns out it was a Symphony, i'll get one of those to fit.

personally regardless of the mileage I'd get the timing belt and waterpump done if its been more than 5 years!

Will do, it’s on the list but that will be next month to try to spread some of the costs out.

Full service, plugs and oil change coming soon and a gearbox oil change in a couple of months too...

Sadly spotted this... will need to replace at some point.

You'll have to replace the whole bumper if you want that fixed.

It's only the grill, not the bumper. Still a lot to replace though for one and common broken mount!

Changed air filter - doddle - although astounded by the number of flies and bugs in both the air filter and the air box. Had to Hoover them out. Literally 1,000’s yuk.

I got round to wrapping 70% of the chrome trim today. Its not 100% perfect but i intend to do them properly when i remove the chrome for the respray.

Also the new oem bluetooth wiring patch lead turned up today too so hope to get that job finished eventually, especially now I've found the SDS software update files too.

And lastly potentially found the source of the damp smell issue in the form of a small puddle in the spare wheel well, which i believe to be related to a previous leak i found in the boot and fixed. So all in all another very productive day

Looks very nice Alex, I think you can get away with the black trim very well against Red paintwork as its still a good contrast, not sure it would look
as good on a black bus though.
One can have too much black on a black car in my opinion, but its great on yours Alex.:thumbs up::yes:

Cheers Rob and you are absolutely right, it goes very well indeed. Not going for a full decrome though as im keeping the badges original chrome.

Im also not a fan off the whole murdered out black look either, your black bus needs some chrome/silver to keep things looking classy.

How easy was it to wrap? As thinking of doing mine.

An Absolute pain in the ****! I gradually got better as i worked around the car. Well worth visiting ebay and buying some basic wrapping tools like a couple of super sharp scalpel type blades. But with a bit of patience you can get a decent finish.

Yeah I'm getting a bit better at wrapping after doing a few bits. Currently wrapping my girlfriends kitchen cupboards, so hopefully this will give me some practice for when I attempt to wrap mine! ha. Will probably give mine a go when the weather warms up a bit.

Looks a good job though!

Steep learning curve for me this weekend !! Bumper off to fit new grill what a pain, but becomes very easy when you’ve had it on and off as many times as I have. Firstly foolishly I never took any pics before I started to remind myself of the gap between bonnet and grille. Became obsessed that’s its to big and still am. Have the adjusters right at the top to the point there only just in. Then every time I tried to nip them up on the bumper they started to wind back down even though I was pressing down to tighten. Ended up getting them set as best I could bumper of yet again, mark them take em out and filled the bottom with no nails, screw back in to marks more no nails and then leave over night. Worked a treat however keep lookin and thinking the gap is to big. Is there a std gap ? ie 1cm etc, tried to get a good pic but it’s dark.
That was first problem !! Next foglight grilles I got from China (really nice actually) all honeycomb like grille. Because my cars white, the bit on the outside of the fog looks terrible as you can see the white of the bumper so gonna have to blank the grilles off on that side. Next the piece behind the grill which directs air to the inter cooler one side is all cracked and bits missing searched in vain on the parts section to find it, nope not in bumper, body, wing anywhere. So eventually got it back together to a std where I’m reasonably happy and now the f....... parking sensors don’t work. I know I plugged them in right.
Next fitted fan jets which I really needed. Oh and they won’t go up high enough !! Got them fitted correctly shims and all adjusted as high as they’ll go and they just spray the bottom of the screen. There not hitting the bonnet either just not high enough. So all in all brilliant weekend achieved f... all and have takin bumper off yet again to look fwd to, to sort sensors out. Happy days

Not a good weekend then Mick , but its pretty well the norm when working in that part of the car, but hey practise make perfect.

May sound obvious but i put my shims on and found the fan was only hitting the bottom of the window so I took the jets back off removed the shim and put it the opposite side of the hole and refitted the jets and it now sprays more or less half way up the window, so you could try that, as far as the bumper alignment goes to the bonnet i really don't get what people mean i haven't got any adjusters as its part of the oem crash bar which gets binned with the airtec fmic and I haven't got an issue, well not one that i notice or bothers me so in my experience they cant do that much.

Look good Alex i looked into this and honestly don't see a way that it can look 100% or at least stay in place over time, let alone the amount of patience it must take that i cant be bothered with lol, what's it really look like up close? Is it worth the hassle or will someone pick up its wrapped up close? To me it looks like one of them jobs that it needs to be removed to get it right?

Ricky might sound obvious to you but to me (as he looks at the ceiling) ok never even entered my mind so thanks for that enlightenment appreciated will try tomorrow night. Looking at the adjusters I thought exactly the same but surprised how much they do lift the bumper, so maybe you were just lucky with yours. Think my problem is never even thought about the gap until I changed grill now I can’t stop looking at it !! It’s all in my head. That all said it’s a really poor design as are quite a few things on the b7, son in law has a a5 and we took his bumper off and on absolute doddle. But we all love em all the same

Almost forgot fitted new battery cleaned scuttle panel out and removed bungs, that all went well so must have done something wrong !!

Ok chaps, on the subject matter of the bumper adjusters.
I need to get you all straight on the subject as there seems to be a fair bit of confusion on what purpose they are for.
They perform several important functions, whether you have them fitted or not is entirely down to personal choice.

Are they really needed, my answer is yes, Audi designed them to be used and they do work for the intended purposes, and the same applies, whether you use them or have them fitted is entirely down to the individual owner.

They are designed to be bumper support stand and also an adjustment point for bumper positioning.
Do they work, yes they do if you understand their basic design and your mounts are in working order.
They provide centre support and rigidity to the centre section of the bumper and grille assembly, without them the bumper a larger section of the bumper is only retained by a few bolts , once you loose that centre rigidity the whole bumper is able to flex ,which is not the best plan.

They are so cheap and easy to replace and even retro fit onto another crash bar .

It's a very simple device which Audi found performed an important enough job to design and fit, otherwise why bother.

I have them on my old bus and have always found them to work very well for the designed job.
Don't get me wrong, Audi have made some really less than ideal parts for the B7, i don't think this is one though.

Use them or don't use them, your choice chaps.

Absolutely Ricky, removing the parts to wrap them is ideally the best way, unfortunately removing the chrome trims on a b7 isn't as easy as you may think, hense why this is a temporary job. Up close theres a few iffy bits i could rectify if i re did it now i have some practice but on the whole its pretty decent.

I fitted the shims without thinking about and thought its all genuine parts and there terrible then a brain cell switched on and i though id just put the shim at the opposite side so the jets are closer to the edge of the bonnet (near windscreen) and that solved it, there not amazing compared to previous cars but there night and day difference to the dribbles i had before fitting the "fan spray" jets. Good luck mate sound like your having a bit of bad luck, sit back have a cup of tea and look at it another day.

Well my bumper looks ok to me without the adjusters and it hasn't fell off at a couple trips to 150mph (in Mexico) so I must be the exception lol, if for some reason my bumper isn't aligned properly its not enough for me to notice or worry about and sturdiness seems more than fine to me, some people and manufactures over think bumpers, they really don't need much to stay on safely, don't get me wrong though i have seen some very poorly aligned front bumpers on the b7 but me personally I haven't tried to align mine in the numerous times I've had it on and off and its always fitted fine to me.

That was my worry you know being a painter you always look at things and think that could be better and I know its time consuming and don't think I can spend that amount of time on a job that's not right, if you do go the route of removing the strips let me know how you get on as id be up for doing it but I know these vag trims are a complete ball ache, your car looks awesome with the black trims so i may be up for it ill just let you go first and see after how many days it takes and what you break lol.

Ive seen a vid on YouTube of a guy taking them off a saloon, but im not sure if the avant is the same. He removed the black trim under the chrome then drilled the rivets out, Removed the rear 1/4 glass ( which i dont think was necessary) then you have to take the door frames out to remove the weather strips.

I had thought about painting them too but not sure how well the paint would adhere. I had my roof bars powdercoated but tbh the finish is a bit naff

Yeah its a tricky one I did the mrs chrome fog light surrounds using plastic primer, etch then a couple coats of wet on wet then 2k paint and after a year they got maybe 2 stone chips in but seem to be holding up great I did the same on my Mercedes trims and they looked terrible after a year, surprised about the powder coating though id have thought that would hold up the best, paint works in mysterious ways.

And took delivery of this

It’s a CTS k04 that’s plug and play for our longitudinal engines with no DV relocation. It’s being fitted Thursday and hoping to take it to badger5 soon as we’re allowed to travel again as they’re only about 45 mins from my house.

Binning the hybrid I bought from Beach Buggy Turbos. It’s caused me a load of problems over the last year. Blown the seals and dumped a ton of oil in the SMIC’s and started having problems with over boost. Started spiking at 27psi!!!

I emailed BBT for advice and support but they said they don’t support tfsi turbos anymore and offered no advice. Really disappointing for a company that supposedly has a good reputation in the VAG scene.

I'd heard that about BBT too. Seems a very strange decision given how common they are.

Be interesting to see how the CTS holds up.

Another local running bigger turbo ;-)
