The Catch Can question..

So after the track day, drained the can one last time. This was about half a quart of oil/gas/vapor caught.

Drive home which was roughly 300 miles, checked the can again and can was empty.

So with that said, it definitely did what it was suppose to do. Glad to have this not go back into the engine and curious to see how "clean" my turbo intake and ic hoses will be. Last time they had more than expected amount of oil in them.

Update, so the ecs can and the oem isn't a good solution for track with elevation and long sweeping banks.

Was at Thunderhill is alot more "switch backs and hairpins" and the car was blowing alot of white smoke, the catch can wasn't filling up like at Buttonwillow. Buttonwillow I had no smoke, thunderhill black flagged.

Ecs solutions is good for those that aren't tracking frequently, but better for drag strip autox and canyon carving.

I installed my APR catch can a month or so ago and went to check/empty it last night

To my surprise, it wasn't just empty, it was bone dry!!

I had one in my 8P S3 and I was emptying it every month or so (it also had a sight glass on it) - anyone here with their catch can installed know if there is an issue with my system or is this engine just a lot better than the old 8P?

Seeing this thread has bumped up, I thought I would share my experience so far with my APR catch can after a few months

Absolutely nothing

Not even a drip which confuses me - with my experience from my 2007 S3, I was having to empty the can every 2-3 weeks

With the one in my 2014 S3, there is nothing coming out of it at all. Everything is piped up accordingly and working as it should, no blockages or kinks in the pipework.

Anyone else with a APR catch can and not having to empty it?

Does the apr piggyback off of the stock? If so, the stock is doing its job and that's why you're not seeing anything. If you take you car on a track, that's when you'll see anything.

Hi all,

I am opening us this thread again as I'm having issues and would like feedback and more details before taking the plunge on this kit.

I really dont understand how the catch tank system (VWR specifically) prevents or stops the smoking and if there is anyone here that has some technical information to support the claims id appreciate it. based on all kits available I feel that the VWR is the ONLY one that corrects this G oil surge issue that I have in abundance

Now before we continue - I tried to load a Video but not coming right so took some shots of the Video to explain the sheer amount of smoke

To put the corner into context I am braking from about 215Kms to 40kms to take a Hairpin RHC in about +/-50off meters - massive braking G at this time and seems to occur when downshifting coming into 3rd or 2nd

After this 1 or 1 corners later the EPC light makes and appearance, the engine light at the next corner and then Limited engine power MAX4000RPM - need to turn off car and restarts for it to go away.

I have tried to do a makeshift bypass and loop out the PCV valve into my own catch tank and smokes exactly the same - this i did my connecting the pipe directly onto the outlet that normally links into the turbo inlet (now blocked) and looped straight into a can

Honestly it's hit and miss and I've had my fair share of trying two brands without success. Another buddy had the vwr and got no success while tracking.

I now have a oem pcv in a catch can and this seems best with the newest oem revision.

There just is too much vaccum created and it gulps up the oil since the oil cannot drain fast enough because of g forces. There is the plastic windage tray that has a snorkel connection which I also thinks contributes. Could try removing that and see if you have smoke prior to spending any money on a aftermarket system that has yet to price they work in track applications.
