Hey everyone I’ve finally had to consider the possibility of replacing my ops and convenience unit for the newer 09 on BCM.

I’ve fitted so many systems over the years and managed to avoid it until now but here goes nothing. I’ve looked around and seen a few people mention it on here but I thought I’d start a post and update it as I go. So if anyone else wants to do it they can at least have some sort of start So far I’ve gone through the current flow diagrams, listed and cross referenced it. Below is a rough conversion minus power and relays.

There’s still a lot of work to do but at least this way is I throw the laptops in frustration then I’ve got a reference online haha.

Wish me luck peeps

Yeah as we've discussed bud, been down this road before, ideally I'd make conversion loom adapter so it's pnp, can find allot of wiring etc for it online.

I'd continue this upgrade myself but haven't had time with health & life in general taking over.

If you need help, ping me WhatsApp.

Mate I know the feeling I’m leaning towards an adapter though I do have a very sexy crimp tool (Engineer PA-21) godsend lol and a lot of pins haha. To be honest it’s not gonna be as bad as I thought it’s only about 70-80 wires. But will keep this updated and ping across some ideas etc

The issue is mate as you know, if you convert directly g find it's not going to work, that allot of rewiring, I would look at adapter loom so it's easy to swap back.

I actually bought a 09 full car loom for my conversion, just haven't had time to work on lol.

On another note, ping me a WhatsApp please about abs module if you have time mate.

Dude I did the same it’s sat in my garage now but after looking at what goes where etc I decided to return it as I’ve got enough of the last loom I bought to do the job haha. I’m gonna price up the connectors I’d need to make a removable adapter. I’m not too worried about re pinning I’ll have to embrace the former master tech hiding inside a now railway worker lol.

Sure how do I find your WhatsApp info dude? I’m happy to help with anything I can. The abs was a pain in the butt to sort but that was mainly swapping the front lines and too be fair that’s because I was being lazy at the time

Though too be honest bud you did talk me into getting that flat bottom wheel and gotta admit it does look sexy haha

Wait till you see the HBA mirror working in your car. And watch the Xenon auto level :D

And yup, flatbottom give a different feel to the car i'd reckon.

All I'll say is, adaptive Headlights.

Just thought I’d update this to say it’s been a while while I’ve been weighing up options and I’ve decided to make a removable adapter harness as repinning it would be a massive pain owing to cable length etc and should I ever decide to switch back for whatever reason it’ll be one head ache and not two

I have tooled into this too, similar to you have tried to match up the pinouts between the modules.

I looked into making an adaptor loom, the troi le is that there are no mating connectors for the existing cecm...

Obviously you can get the 3 big connectors for the new bcm easily enough

If you have found mating connectors I'd be very interested, as I don't think they are listed on ETKA

I've had a look through your pinouts and it mostly matches up with what I had put together for the TT. There are some obvious differences between model specific parts, but on the whole looks good. I have a BCM on the way with connectors, so I am going to use the wires in the connectors to verify my notes

Something I noticed with your notes is that they are halogen specific, whereas I have included halogen and xenon (as I have previously retrofitted xenons so my wiring is already a 'hybrid'). Also my car is Stronic, which has a couple of small differences. Finally, some relays need adding to replace the inbuilt ones.

In case you are interested, TT specific parts include:
- roadster option
- electric rear spoiler
- different rear light setup (inc 2 indicators per side, 2 reversing lights, and one central fog light)
- no boot release button in handle (though I have fitted one to mine, so will look into getting that working)

I'll try and get some info added as I go regarding pinouts etc

Next steps are to think about how to make adaptor looms considering the lack of matching connectors with the CECM and conv modules...

Hey bud yeah I started listing every pin but bailed on that idea as I got way too confusing. Adapter harness wise it’s a no go as the mating connectors for the pre bcm unit don’t exist. I’ve a few ideas but it’s probably gonna be a repin job. As for the lights etc I just stuck with what it’s gonna be when it’s finished kinda thing.

The light at the end of the tunnel is though a few people have done this conversion on mk5 golfs from my research and seem to have no issues however I suspect if they did they wouldn’t shout too loudly haha.

It’s kind of on hold atm as we’ve currently got a COVID scare at home. Few people have got it and a few more are waiting results (myself included) that and the weather it’s not ideal

Yeah I started listing all and then switched to just listing for my spec. It would be difficult to create a general lost for all models

I have thought about getting another cecm unit and reusing the casing with some modifications. Like you say, I'm sure it will work, but I'd like to verify it first before undertaking such a large repinning!

Hope it all works out well at home too

Hey guys just to update and say the project ran into a few issues (mostly time related) but is still going strong. All the wiring is done and the car starts etc. However running into lighting issues. It could be possible that the new bcm (8P0907063N) is pinned slightly different than the G version. I remember vaguely the old ops one of the latest revision wasn’t happy if you just plumbed it in and Elsa was zero help.

Today however I’ve sourced a G version and hopefully it’s on it way. Once that’s in hopefully my light switch and rear lights will behave if not... there’s always a hammer lol.

Merry Christmas guys and stay safe

Don't forget bud facelift headlight switches had the extra feed wire of the brown 2 pin connector, that maybe your issue.

N should be ok tbh as its newer.

Good work

Do you have auto headlights? As when I retrofitted mine I vaguely remember there being multiple versions of light sensor, and since this connects to the BCM via linbus maybe that could be a cause (separate to the headlight switch mentioned by NHN above)

How did you adapt the loom? Cutting and soldering the existing wires?

I spoke with NHN today and I completely missed the extra wire for the switch. Once that was in things behaved themselves.

Though as I’ve got a lot of retrofits and mods on mine the only coding that came close was a mates car which happens to be LHD once I worked that out I swapped the pins for M2, M4 and the fog light to the LHD ones and now all the lights work barring the front fogs but the left hand side isn’t earthed yet and I’m 90% sure the bulbs gone on the right. I can sort the coding out later and swap the pins back but for now I’m happy with the progress.

As for the wiring a lot of the pins are the same with a few exceptions. But as the lengths are different I extended all the short ones using heat shrink crimps so all three new connectors reach down to the throttle pedal so I can make adjustments (like with the lights)

Once everything’s good I’ve got a set of new pin ends and intend to have all the cables grouped and put the right ends on the wires so it’s nice and neat. Though after all this is done I’m going to definitely make a complete adapter harness or at least plan one so that no one else has to go through this hell haha.

Haha at least you are close. I am waiting on a part before I extend my convenience module wires from the boot (in my TT, not sure location in A3) down to the dash and then I'll go from there

Did you have to reprogramme the key fobs as I believe that is handled by the convenience module and now the BCM?

Yes mate I had to adapt the remotes again but thankfully that was the easy part. Yeah the comfort ecu is in the boot on the a3 I just ran about 9-10 wires though you do have to either reroute the power from the old comfort ecu to the new bcm or run new ones from the fuse box. I ran new as I want to put a 12v socket in the boot

I think I have 18 to run (4 are for the electric spoiler) but thanks for the info

How did you adapt the keys? I didn't find much when I looked, well I found info but lots of it conflicted. Some procedure with ignition and pressing the fob buttons I believe?

Luckily for me the TT has the battery in the boot so adding a rear socket was easy

The keys are pretty much the same as before but instead of going into 46 you go into 09 (as that’s where 46 now lives) and do the following.

Adaption channel 00 (clear the old remotes)
Enter 0 then test and save.

Adaption channel 01 (adapt remotes)
Enter the number of remotes/keys then test and save.

Ignition off and press a button on each remote you’ll know it’s done when the indicators blink.

That’s pretty much it.

What part are you waiting on bud just out of interest

Thanks for the info, never needed to do that before so had no idea how it was done

Just a part of a connector. I have bought a connector to put in the ends of the existing conv wires, so in the short team I can then use the mating connector of the above with short wires to the conv connectors (short adaptor looms). Then I will make the long looms to get to the dash, with the same mating connector to swap with the adaptor loom. Hope that makes sense!

The idea is to keep the car mobile as I progress, at least with the conv module swap

I have the BCM pinouts sorted I think so eager to get going in the new year

I don’t wanna speak too soon guys and girls but I think.... I think I’m done I’ve got a small bit of coding to do and a few relays to double check but the interior went back in today and I gave it a drive and not only does it feel great to actually drive the car after so long but everything works.

Once I’m happy with it and I’ve tidied up the wiring I’ll post some pics but I’m overjoyed at the results so far.

Thank you for the update on this. I have this on my bucket list as well :) . Had done wiring diagram but never got around to actually starting. Curious to see what you need around the relays but the rest seems straight forward.
