Hi,

After years of VW and Audi’s (Golf GTi, A3, A5 and 3 years with my beloved S3) it time to move on.

Picked up my new BMW M235i XDrive Gran Coupe in Storm Bay yesterday.
Yes I know what people have been saying about this car, but For me it ticked every box.

I did look at the new S3 saloon as I really wanted stay with Audi brand, but While I like the design on the outside. The interior was not for me especially the dash design. The only thing I liked about the interior was the seats. While there nothing wrong with Audi’s MMI system, I think it still lags behind BMW’s iDrive and Mercedes. For me Audi have taken I step back with the new A3.

I hope to return to Audi brand in the future but for now it’s Goodbye and Stay Safe all!

Not sure why it took so much heat, think it looks really nice personally.

Really like the colour and alloy combo you’ve got there. As an aside, couldn’t agree more on the superiority of iDrive over MMI. Leagues ahead

think it was the back end that that took the heat not the front. Looks a bit like squashed 3 series.

I couldn't agree more, I have just bought my 3 year old S3 for more than I could have bought a new A3 for, but I just don't like the interior of the new one, gone is the understated class and in has come a load of plastic.

I think you’re right, it was the rear that attracted all the criticism. It’s possibly a little out of proportion but personally I don’t think it looks that bad.

I was thinking the same.. What would put me off would be the fake exhaust pipes. Are they??

BMW in general don't fit faux exhausts on their petrol or diesel cars

The 2 series aint a bad looking car especially in darker paint colours but it aint a looker I was thinking of moving on myself but after getting a quote on a £59k boxster with a £10k deposit I'll still be thinking of moving on lol

The rear actually looks better in real life. Yes from certain angles you look at it can looks odd bit, but the more I look at it the more I like.

The exhaust pipes are real, it's just the square housing around them.

Looks similar to say an A3 saloon / hyundai I30N fastback.

i don’t mind it at all.

the new A3 interior takes a lot of heat too but that is generally how forum’s perceive the new model.

the people with the 8L didn’t like the 8P very much

the 8P people didnt like the 8V much

the 8V people don’t seem to like the new gen 8Y much

i own an 8V and i go against the grain, i think the new 8Y looks awsome and i like the interior too, yeah some plastics might have been added but got to take the rough with the smooth i guess, externally looks much nicer and modern over the 8V.

I jumped ship for mostly practical reasons. Would probably have gone for the 8Y S3 otherwise.

think that colour suits that rear end. Some of the other colours just make it look a bit weird or fat ar5e

I quite like the 135 hatch. May be a possibility in the near future or might keep the s3 and give it a tune after the warranty runs out.

I have owned the 8v pfl and 8v fl and not liking the 8y runs a lot deeper than forum vibes....the fact the car was launched in the midst of this stupid hysteria run flu didn't do it any good ...you mention the 8l 8p 8v weren't they all new models from the ground up the 8y is merely a face lifted car l wanted the 8y S3 saloon as my next car but Audi can't even produce a proper model line up, its either a basic a s3 model with a stupidly small cockpit binnacle or the option laden Vorsprung which is already 3 months late and still unavailable to order

I still think the pfl 8v S3 is the best of the bunch. You could tell which way Audi were going simply by omitting the letter 3 in the steering wheel and brake calipers. Took the shine somewhat off the fl version. Small detail I know but never the less 'penny pinching' setting in.

I must admit though I'm liking the GTI Clubsport more and more. I bet it's much better in the flesh than on a pc screen?

How does it compare price wise to the 235I @S3LOK ?

I did looked into the Clubsport and if you spec it to the same level as my M235i GC it was about the same price.

I went into VW dealer which had a standard GTI and had a look around it. Waited 20 mins and no-one came to me and had to ask for someone in the end. Got this young sale guy who treated me like I never brought a new car before giving me all the old ticks in the book and trying pressure me into buying.
Anyway while I did prefer the interior design of the golf to new A3, the quality was still the same as the A3 cheap looks plastics and I think the exterior design of the A3 looks more nicer than the Golf.
VW and Audi were giving me crap discount and APR was high.
So I went into BMW to look at M135i and saw the new 2 Series Gran Coupe and it ticked every box for me. Plus they gave me a great deal that I couldn't refuse, but I does help when it turns out the sale manager was a good old friend of my sister.

Only done 60 miles in my new BMW so can't really compare how it drives to my S3.
Tech wise BMW is far how advance to my 2018 s3, BMW HUD is amazing piece of kit and the heated Steering Wheel is nice touch.
While BMW Live cockpit is good, it's no where near as good Audi's VC.
Sound wise, I always knew it wasn't never going to sound as good as my S3 pops and bangs and DGS farts, which I will miss. But if that the way all new car are heading now we just have to get use to it.

I hope to come back to Audi in the future, but we see what they bring out.

As is the case with many cars (S3 included) they tend to look better in the flesh as it were, especially if in the right colour and optioned. Just not a fan of the interior of the S3 and pretty key as you spend all your time there.

IDrive is streaks ahead of MMI. The Audi VC is still the best, but only giving smaller screen as standard in S3 is seriously ****.

''Holly sh1t''! lol The only reason you still have yours is because of what you spec'd it at. Audi can't afford to sell cars with that spec without loosing money now. To get an S3 with your current spec would put it in the price bracket of their RS range. There's no doubting your car is a ''corker'' though so don't slate me on this post lol:thumbs up:
ps You gotta admit having S3 on your calipers/steering wheel and leather seats would've been the icing on your Christmas cake :yum: lol

it's not going to decrease so i've been informed
If they don't then pcp's and lease would be less attractive compared to rivals like BMW and others. Combined with the way the world is at the moment with the 'sniffle' bug making peoples finance stretched I would've thought they would be forced to?? It's only an observation mind you and not based on hard facts lol

It's a great car mate, looks of a car are always subjective and I agree the BMW idrive is top notch. Look forward to a review when you have put a few more miles on it. Have you tried the voice command "hey BMW, I'm cold" it will turn the heating up. I also said "hey BMW I'm bored" and it suggested using sport mode,,,,,, class.
