A6 lot of error

Rightly or wrongly another A6 this time a My20 built in September. My I loved the car apart from the alarms and I can’t afford anything of equal size or bigger like a Q7, if I wanted a new build from factory I’d be looking at May time which Audi finance didn’t want to wait for as they were funding the swap.
Oh I see. Looking at these experiences people have had so far with the C8 it doesn't seem to be many good ones. They've had nearly 3 years to iron out any issues. Good looking cars but eventually once I get round to buying one after I'll be done with my A4 on order hopefully it would be trouble free. Let's hope your replacement C8 is trouble free ay.

My A6 C8 avant is currently in for several issues including the pre sense/ active lights error messages after a quick stop/ start. Told that the software update didn’t work so now waiting for a new control module to be shipped from Germany.

Hi Paul,

I get these errors for pre sense and main beam assist but only when it is cold weather and a bit of condensation has formed between the camera lens and the windscreen and this obstructs the view of the camera to perform these functions. Could this be the case with yours as well? I only mention this now that winter is here.

The camera is “sealed in” so it takes longer for it to demist than the windscreen. As I mentioned the mist/condensation is visible if you look at the camera from outside the car so this is a physical obstruction rather than a software bug.

Works fine for me the rest of the year.

I also get this error occassionaly, but the difference with this one is that the system reactivates when the condensation clears, whilst the software related bug does not and requires a full reset by siwitching the car off and leaving it for 10 mins.

Mine don’t go for ages, the guys in the garage were surprised they stay on. I’ve had some pop up and go within 20-30 seconds that was when driving into blinding sunshine. Audi must have acknowledged there’s some form of fault otherwise they wouldn’t be swapping my car.

I’ve had the errors in all weathers including summer. Previously when the car has been in they haven’t been been to replicate the problem but now they have seen it themselves.

Sometimes they disappeared when driving but mostly it needed a full engine off and lock car to reset

PaulW99 it will be interesting to know if your new control module is now the new norm in builds and from when was it swapped.

I was told the module will have been flashed with latest software so hopefully no errors.

The latest one with my ****** car is that it locks the doors 4 or 5 times after you set off. I’m going to look to change it for something else in the new year, I’m sick of all these faults.

You would think that all these errors are down to a central control module.

Have you had the work done ? Has it fixed anything ?

Mine had a service and two software updates two weeks ago, and so far it seems to have cured the pre sense errors after a quick stop and start. Hopefully that’s it, but I’m not holding my breath.

Mine had the software update a few months ago, since then it’s been fine, until tonight... stopped the car, got in a minute later and restarted it, cue the ‘pre sense failure’, ‘adaptive light failure’...

Issue unresolved.

Could it be condensation on this occasion? Mine only does this when the weather is cold and when the piece of windscreen where the forward facing camera is located is fogged up. Unfortunately as it is a sealed in section it doesn’t demist with the rest of the windscreen.

If you're only getting this error occasionally, I wouldn't worry too much. Since getting my car from new in Feb 2020, i'm seeing the same error once every 1-2 months. In my case, switching off engine and leaving the car locked for 10+ mins fixes this. I'm guessing its a software bug (which Audi aren't able to fix yet) otherwise it wouldn't be resolved after a simple switch off engine and wait procedure. My car had a software update in August 2020, maybe that's reduced the frequency of the error but its still there. However I'm not too fussed :)

My car is going in for a service at the start of January. Been told it needs MMI update and alternator replacement. Have also flagged the Assist systems error with them (again) along with a transmission error where the car declared it had a "drive system error" which cleared on restarting. Will be interesting to see what chnages they achieve when it comes back

It drove me insane, as it would have about 5 different alerts, continually stay on and disable matrix and auto levelling. I have a newer build now. The alarms have come on twice both after a driving the car but unlike the old car only two errors came on and they disappeared pretty quickly. A massive improvement, I’m not sure if it’s had the latest update for the error though.

i had a new one today, drove about a mile to pick one of the kids up, got there, pressed the stop button, radio and everything still on, daughter turned up, pressed start and the car started but was juggering like hell, like it was on a hill trying to get in to gear, I put it in D, it carried on, then N then D again, still doing it so I pulled off and it was ok after that.

This car is such a piece of sh1t!

Had a new one yesterday, the drivers door didn’t open at the first attempt, it took two pulls before it opened.

These cars are going to cost the future owners a fortune to keep on the road!

I think, but would need to check, if the engine is still running/ignition is on and assuming you have autolock activated, then any door requites two pulls of the handle to open. The first effectively unlocks the door an the second oopens it. If you have switched the car off then the doors should unlock automatically

Seeing all these errors coming up doesn't fill me with that much confidence for purchasing a C8 A6 in the future. For a 40k plus car this is not looking good.

I was trying to get in, I had unlocked it then pulled the handle to open the door, it normally opens but this time it didn’t.

The inside lights refused to switch off again yesterday after getting in, I couldn’t even be ***** turning them off manually.

I‘m hoping the industrial action at the DVLA won’t delay them sending me my V5 after taking my private plate off, fingers crossed the car will be out of my life by the end of the weekend.

Going for the E Class or something else?

Q5. It might be out of the frying pan...
That’s my worry. I’d like another Audi, the last one was very good, but the issues with this one are putting me off. Another year at least before I need to make a decision anyway.

I’m hoping I’ve just had a lemon, I’ve not heard many complaints against the Q5. I was contemplating swapping it for a A6 Avant but I don’t want to risk it!

My last 5 or 6 cars have all been Audis and I’ve only ever had issues with this one.

I got mine through in about 4 working days at the end of April and they were also having industrial action at the time so fingers crossed

That’s good to hear, thanks!

Hopefully getting it at the weekend as long as my V5 comes through
I had a similar situation with my previous A6. I collected the new car before the V5 came through and the dealer put £1000 on my credit card as a security deposit which was refunded as soon as I turned up with the V5 for the old car. In this case it was only 24 hours as the V5 turned up the next day

V5 has come today, happy days! I’ll soon be waving goodbye to this bag of knackers!
