The rubber strap on my fuel cap has snapped.

Seems my options are:

Buy replacement new OEM fuel filler cap
Buy a cheap ebay version and transfer just the strap
Repair the strap

I would prefer to try the no cost repair option.

The strap has a cut on the small circular ring, which could make it easier to repair. In which case, has anyone done this before

and can offer tips? Tape, glue?

Just go to audi and get the genuine part - it's a couple of quid.

My local Audi main dealer has quoted me just under €50 for replacement filler cap since the strap only comes with the whole thing.

I actively cut the strap off the straps on all of fuel caps as I prefer to have the cap separate. I never prop it on the fuel cap!

That cap is for the 8L this is the 8P one https://www.autodoc.co.uk/borsehung/14173593

Yes, that’s the one! Thanks for the link. A steal at that price. I need to use the Autodoc.fi Finland site which quotes €11.06. As usual, p&p bumps it up to total price of €27.96, but still about €20 less than the Audi dealer. I’ve used Autodoc before.

Just used them myself two rear calipers for £90 delivered absolute stupid price compared to others, even friends in the trade can't match them lol

I’m having more options now. Quite surprised to find somewhere selling just the straps. The cheapest p&p for me is under €3 but quotes 30-50 days! Has anyone experience of using AliExpress?

Yeah be fine just a big wait

I’m tempted to go for the cheapest option of just the strap from Aliexpress. I’m not in a rush so can wait the 30-50 days while it sits in some Chinese freight container.

Does anyone know how to remove the central ring with strap off the fuel cap? Just had a quick look and can’t see how it could come off.

I'd say cut that one off, and put the new one in hot water to make it more supple and it might wiggle on

The centre ring is made of hard plastic not rubber. Looks like it’s made in a way that can’t be changed? Looks like a replacement cap is the way to go.

Contact a breakers yard. Any VAG fuel cap should fit as long as it's the right fuel car to match your vehicle. Can't see them wanting much for one.

Is just the strap not an option.number 1 or 2 picture?

I think it could be pic No. 1 but not sure how it attaches to the circular plastic ring. Is it using those two small pins?
