S3 H&R Lowering Springs Fitted, Car sits higher than before!

Hi All,

Been a while since my last post as I stepped away to the dark side for a few years but am now once again, the proud owner of an S3. I have searched for an answer to my issue but can't find anything that helps.

As the title suggests, I had a set of H&R Lowering Springs fitted last week and something doesn't look right. The car looks great at the back, but the front has not lowered at all, if anything, it looks higher than it did before!

Has my mechanic done something wrong? He's fitted springs for me on other vehicles in the past without issue, just wondering if there is a known issue with these cars of something else that needs to be changed?

I will try and upload some pics if I can but any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Gazwould, is that a straight forward job - ie, could I tackle it myself on the drive with a trolly jack and axle stands
 
Would your front springs need sport shocks , only asking as my eibach 20mm lowering springs sit on shorter shocks than stock .

Yeah I’ve got the eibach 20mm drop springs and I’ve had to send my shocks off to get shortened too
 
That looks way off what it should be. My guess would be that the shocks need shortening or it’s had the wrong springs put on. Maybe springs for an a3 with a smaller engine rather than an S3.
 
That front end should be way lower. The length of the shocks will have no effect on how it sits.
I had H&R springs initially on all 4 of my 8P's and they all sat equal front and back with a 5 to 10mm settle over time
Did you buy the springs new

The springs were brand new from Awesome GTi and as far as I could tell, were the correct ones for this car.

Is there anything that my mechanic could have done wrong during the install that would cause this?
 
I've got the H&Rs on stock shocks front and back and it seems to sit fine so I'd like to say that shocks shouldn't make that much of a difference. I'm a bit baffled as to why this would happen though but I'm curious to learn the answer. Sorry I can't be of help on this one. Maybe a silly suggestion but would the springs for a 3 door and a Sportback be different for any reason??!
 
I've had a look on the H&R website and it looks like the 3 and 5-door variant both get the same set. I'm starting to fear however that I may have been sent the set for an A3 rather than an S3. I'm going to take a wheel off at the weekend and check the part number printed on the spring, that should hopefully eliminate or confirm my fear...
 
Good idea, I'm sure I took a photo of my springs before I put them on so it may have the part number on there you can confirm with. If not, I'm almost certain the wonders of the internet will hold the answer. Hopefully it's something just as 'simple' as the wrong springs rather than anything else.
 
Jacked it up, dropped the wheels off and the problem was staring me in the face. I’m gob-smacked that he let it leave his workshop like this.

This was the same on both sides, the shocks were a good 40mm out of their seat in the hubs hence the car being sat so high. Needless to say, i’m fuming!

All sorted now though and looking much better!

Fuming would be an understatement! Glad you got it sorted though, looks so much nicer sat properly! Did you speak to the garage?

I was going to suggest that when I posted on here the other day as I have previously had that exact same problem but you said your mechanic has changed springs for you before so I were assuming he wouldn’t have done that.
In my case I bought my a3 s Line and it looked higher on one side at the front. Knowing I was getting some eibach springs I left it and expected it to be put right when the new springs were fitted. New springs were fitted and still had same problem. Queried it with the garage and he said he didn’t know as he didn’t encounter any problems when fitting the new springs. I’m sure he also mentioned that they fitted the new springs without removing the shock from the hub somehow. When I got home I did what you have done and examined for myself and found it was atleast an inch higher than what it should have been and wasn’t sat in the hub properly. It really annoys me when people can’t do their job right when it is such basic things!
 
Looks great now the issue has been corrected I’m going to get these springs for my s3 sportback

Hello I know this is an old post but I have seen the op suspensions set up and it’s just how I want mine to look! How much was it lowered?

I didn’t think they did 25. Thought they started at 30, as that’s all I could find when I did mine.

What model do you have. Should have asked first as this will depend on the look you get. 30mm springs on a s-line will look different to a se.
