Hello im going to buy a rs3 saloon 2018 next year.. im just wondering what commen faults to look out for if any? And whats the road tax
a year for it because I get two different answers for it when I Google it. Im in the UK.. any help would be appreciated many thanks adi

Tax will be 475 for years 2-5 I believe, then it drops to 150 (if that stays the same). As for faults, I've had mine for 18 months and not had any issues with it so far (touch wood).

Thanks so much for commenting that helps me out

as above, no faults so far after about 16months of ownership and taking the car to stage 2 (stage 3 inbound!) The only thing I have noted is the key fob seems to like batteries. Ive had to replace them twice in this time and has caught me out locking me out of the car. I now carry a spare couple of batteries with me in my faraday key pouch.

Squeally brakes is common
Pano roof - make siue they grease it up before you take delivery - they charge about £200 otherwise
Pirelli tyres - some prople get issues with them where the tyre starts to seperate at the rim - mine have been fine though
Google maps overlay - licence may have run out or may not be available anymore- make sure it has google maps overlay. If not get them to upload the replacement overlay

Get autowatch ghost and maybe a tracker

Regarding @royalsteve68 said above.

Google maps view lasts 3 years - after that you need the update overlay AND you still have to pay £11.99 a month UK for that; you can decide if it’s worth it yourself.

My sunroof rattles and I had the whole thing replaced once - and may need to get it done again. So get it serviced before collection so you have no warranty issues.

And absolutely if you buy from Audi get the extended warranty.

Tyres do wear - I kind of think you have to accept that your have to change them more than you probably want to.

Brakes do squeak - it comes and goes - I had a loud squeak when breaking that went away when I changed the pads at service and for the last two years I have had a very very light squeak from the rear right wheel which I have had Audi check multiple times and they said they think it is light rubbing between the pad and disc but nothing is wrong with it.

I also had an engine warning light days after I picked it up new - low oil pressure - which was apparently caused by low fuel levels - and the fix was more fuel and eventually it went away.

But the sound and specialness of the car make all these things worth it!

With the pan roof rattle you can fix this with the soft side of Velcro positioned on the close area front centre (nearest front windscreen side) with a 4 inch strip and 2x 2 inch strips in the corners nearest front. I had this issue on my S3 8V PFL for its first year and it spent most of the time back and forth to Audi. In the end I took it upon myself to figure out a solution. This worked for me and my mates merc too.

I don’t have any of my car no as it is now sold. However I’ll use this visual to help explain better. Firstly you need to figure out which side rattles. Or which corner. Easy way to figure out is find a bumpy road and with the glass shut, when you hear the rattle jam your fingers around the seal and see if you can almost stop the rattle by lightly pushing up against the glass. Probs best doing this with the passenger while you drive. I figured my rattle mainly came from the drivers side front corner and the middle where the controls to open the pano were.

Return home and open the pano fully and clean down the whole area with soapy water then dry in sun for a while. Then apply to the down arrow area in the image the soft side of the velcro. Do not put it in the water seal which the up arrow is pointing to otherwise you might get a water leak. The hard rubber/plastic area is what you are aiming to apply it to just to push up on the glass once closed. Don’t do the entire width of the car as it might be too much. As mentioned previously cut to 4 inch strips and inch wide velcro. Hope this helps. If it doesn’t you might need to relocate why you put the velcro until the rattle is gone.
