Bye Bye S3

Yuv gone a bit Grey since then................plus gained a few extra....£££££££££££ lol
It's just 'puppy fat ' mate. And a bit of the old schwarzkopf hair dye will sort it..What shade do you use buddy?:whistle2:

I’m probably in the geriatric group but reckon I will probably get a years free motoring with a new Porsche Targa 4S. Currently, due to short supply, they are advertised at £15-20k over list price. You do need to have the capital to make it work but with poor interest rates due to Brexit Bolloxcks and Covid etc why not?

**** all the newer Porsche models....the old yins still hold their value far far better £57,500

Out of allll the nice Porsche classics you pick a 944 :puke2:

Your far too young to understand ............Classic it is mate because it was made before VAG came on the scene with the VAG engined 924 and decades before PCP....my mate owned a awesome 928 GTS many moons ago....current Porsche models are all Audi's under their skin.....The power of the bank of VAG

I love the 928, it's up there with my favourite Porsche models. The 944 is just a bit of a miss for me personally, much prefer the 911's around that generation although the good ones do cost a small fortune nowadays.

No doubt an age thing but I can't see me going back to a 'normal' car now. Just after I bought the SQ5 I got a p/t job delivering Porsches (and other exotics) and immediately hankered after a Macan GTS, even got the numbers done! The Cayenne was a surprisingly good drive as well but it's not a looker, this new coupe version looks right up my street though. Just a shame about the price :bye:

I really don’t think it is an age thing! It’s attitude and not being taken in by the excessive marketing of SUVs and Chelsea and Cheltenham tractors! I passed my driving test in 1972!
Interesting to note, my B9 RS4 has a Porsche engine.

Nope, my new wife has a hip problem and thought an SUV would be easier for her, which on first impression it was. I can think of absolutely no reason why I would ever want a Q3 over an S3 they are the ultimate anti- tardis. Son in law bought a Passat Estate for space whereas a Touran was a lot less practical. If you want space buy an Estate.

I'm not sure if it was your intention but that makes me sound like a gullible **** who's been taken in by some glossy adverts?
Either way I'm not bothered, I've driven literally 100s of cars and made my decision based purely on what I wanted and what we were willing to spend.
FWIW I was originally interested in a BiTdi Allroad but decided it was too big, the SQ5 hit the sweet spot.
Not sure what you've got but if you've bought a 2.9 RS4 thinking it has a Porsche engine you've been taken in by the wrong adverts :)

Sorry, I certainly don't intend to make anyone seem like a gullible ****. The SQ5 is a great car if you are happy with an SUV. My point is that it is well known that SUVs have a large International market and have been widely marketed in the UK to create a similar demand. When objectively analysing the pros and cons, I and many others I am sure fail to understand the attraction. Poorer handling and fuel economy and generally an anti Tardis issue.
The SQ5 is 5 inches shorter than the All road but all other dimensions appear to be larger. The B9RS4 450PS does indeed share an engine with the Porsche Panamera.https://www.porscheboost.com/.
Audi B9 RS4/RS5 engine specs leak - 450 horsepower 2.9 liter top mount twin turbo V6 shared with the Panamera 4S
This news comes from a dealer presentation in Norway and someone supposedly leaked the specs. AudiBoost would feel more confident if someone snapped a few pictures of the slideshow for confirmation but the rumor on the street for months now was that the RS4/RS5 models would share the new 2017 Panamera 4S twin turbo V6.

This is a bit of a letdown as the hope was that Audi would create a more highly tuned version of its new twin scroll top mount V6 architecture in the B9 S4 and S5. The Panamera 4S 2.9 liter V6 has mono scroll twins.

The 2.9 liter V6 output is higher by almost 100 horses at 450. Here are the basics of what we know:

1. Reverse flow header, integrated exhaust manifold, spray-guided type direct injection
2. Cylinder liner is changed to plasma spray type.
3. Two mono-scroll turbochargers, compared to Audi’s single turbocharger (twin-scroll type)
4. No cylinder deactivation.
5. 2894 cc
6. 84.5mm bore x 86mm stroke
7. Variocam Plus

Haha, everyone used to say that, but it was quite a surprise at how quickly the novelty wore off and some of the cars were a real chore, I used to really hate Lambos - torture chambers on wheels :)
I retired quite young from my real job and was just doing it for beer money, it was good for a couple of years, but the wages were rubbish, it was all take and the boss wasn't an easy person to like! Driving licence felt under constant threat as well.

Driving special cars is lovely but I’m not sure the motivation would be great on just over £5 an hour nett especially with a bad boss!

Did you have a split personality or is that a double typo? .. hope you can keep your hand in during retirement.

Is yours a facelift mate Joe achilles just reviewed a face lifted and hes said it was a very thirsty car average 28 mpg....thats a bit....low for a ea888 engine
Nah mate unfortunately not. @Jcbmally has the facelift and I'm sure he will say his mpg is better than joe's review car. .. I am getting at the moment low to mid thirties mpg on my daily commutes to work. It's certainly better than my S3. I still don't know if my Cupra has the extra fuel catalyst. How can I find out? The reason I'm asking is that the exhaust is louder than the S3 and has distinctive pops and bangs on over run.:icon thumright:

I think he has said in one of his replies that the mpg would increase with mileage. I'm guessing his had low miles??

What's the official figures on the new S3?
Due to 'Dieselgate' I'm sure they have to be realistic?

I really like your car P burv.
I am considering one or a BMW X3 Msport 2.ol as my next car as I cannot get diesel as only doing about 6 k miles a year .It will be nearly new or a year old hopefully as i couldn't justify new .
What make of tyres did you get on yours ?

Michelin Pilot Sport 4's are on the car. I'm not sure what are on when new?
Both BMW X3 and Cupra Ateca are great cars. I haven't driven the BMW so can't give an opinion on how it compares. What I would say is the Cupra has way more bhp than the beemer not sure if that's important to you?
It comes with a lot of tech for the price as standard also.
I should imagine it is better priced than the beemer?
Good luck with whatever you decide on and don't forget to post a pic or two.:thumbs up:

As posted elsewhere I’m not a fan of SUVs and suggest people really ask what are the real pros and cons.
Regarding BMW versus Seat aka Cupra one factor is missing from the critique - Residual value versus discounted new price.
PCPs only tell half the story and a little bit of caution/optimism on RV can totally screw the figures.
I am ‘lucky’ or is it sensible that I can buy with cash or sometimes a small M&S or JL loan. Paying high interest rates in a no interest collapsed economy is probably not the most financially prudent. BMW will almost certainly have a better RV than Seat due to demand, this of course may change but given Seat are seen as nearer the bottom of the Audi/Vw group food chain I somehow doubt it.

Depends on if you are more bothered with residuals or simply want to enjoy the SUV for the time you have it. As is said quite a lot on here you Don,t like SUV,s but a lot of people do and are more often or not willing to accept a hit on residuals and simply enjoy a car for what it is.

I do understand that some will like SUVs but as this thread is for A3/S3 and Audi Sport I do wonder why the fascination with Seat and BMW SUVs?? clearly human nature means people will defend their course of action, be it buying an SUV, supporting Boris or Brexit, it is very clear to me that manufacturers are pushing SUVs. My point is that the A3/S/RS is a good package and I fail to see or understand why one would want to compromise ride, handling, performance and economy just to be able to stare over hedges and people’s gardens. I rarely admit I’m wrong (because I rarely am ) but buying a Q3 Vorsprung 45q Sportback SUV thing a year ago was most definitely an error! 8V or 8Y hatchback would be my choice. Appreciate we all have views but ....

Compromise ride and handling......
Why have you ordered a targa over a coupe???? To me and a lot of motorist journalists say the targa is compromised on both counts.
As for going off topic I was replying to a forum member who asked for my opinion not yours. Also for going off topic I think you have cornered the market with that one.

We have a Coupe. RV on Targa way better and it will live in France. Serious question, why are SUVs so popular when they are so compromised in comparison to saloon or estate variants.
