Hi All,

Sorry if this is just another retrofit seat thread, I have been doing my research on the forum but there are so many posts about so many different seats and quite a few didn't go into that much detail.

So

I have a 2008 (facelift I believe) 8P Sportback Sport, it has full leather interior, fronts are in great condition, rear are clean but very saggy, but my problem is with the front, mainly mine as the driver!! they just are not comfortable, that may be the wrong word, supportive may be better, I cannot get myself in to a position where I'm comfy and supported, mainly my right leg on the accelerator (not use to this type of accelerator, but that is another matter) there doesn't appear to be any support under my right knee and there is no adjustment that will help, I'm far from tall, but it's causing me a problem, my leg is just killing after my daily commute and the driving position does not feel nice or right!! I have seen quite a few comments about the seats in the 8P but mainly from a back issue, that for me is fine.

So what are my options regarding retrofitting seats? I've seen all sorts! but what's the easiest / best options? i guess the easiest is some seats from another 8P but feel i will have the same issue, so what else? if I am swapping the front I want to also swap the rear which isn't all that nice, I would like heated (they are not heated now) I know this involves wiring and coding which I have no problem with, i did a lot when I had my A5 (but there were more tutorials on the A5 than I can find on the A3), heated seats aren't a must but while I'm doing it would be nice. If it's possible I don't really want seats that are embossed with S-Line or S3, etc, my car is one of those and I don't want to portray it any different, I just think it will look odd with my car being totally standard! so this makes things quite a bit harder, I don't mind if full or half leather (but assume most heated are full leather).

Looking on the forum I believe the Audi A5 Sportback front seats, with the Golf GTI MK6 rear seats, are probably the easiest retrofit to do?

I believe the 8V rear will not fit the 8P rear with swapping the bench bases over, not afraid of doing that, stripped seats before and there are no airbags to worry about, but is the rear uprights/backs a direct fit?
I would love some advice, what are the best seats for leg support and being comfy (I had an A5 sport and they were leather, I never had any issues, but felt it was a different seating position and auto so this combined may make a difference), i would also love to see your photos, what have you done? (an indicative price would be appreciated, but rude asking I know) .

Here are some photos of my current seats

Your help and advice is really appreciated Thaks Chris

I might know someone who would be interested in your leather set, even though the backs look saggy... :whistle2:

Would happily trade for standard set in good condition with likely some cash your way too!

As for heated seats, you would also need the relevant heater control unit (at additional cost) and ensure the correct connector is behind your existing HCU matches up with the new socket which is I believe unlikely.

Keen to understand the outcome of this thread.

I am looking into retro fitting reclining 8v s-line seats into my 3 door 8p. Can anyone confirm if they loom needs to be changed or amended and are they a direct fit, are there any modifications required to the seat runners etc?

At present i havent made any changes, i keep looking and i am not sure what the best and cheapest route to go down is, where i was having issues with my knee/leg due to lack of movement it would appear my body has got use to the position, i am still not a huge fan of the leather and the rear bench needs swapping due to damaged leather.

I believe the 8v and 8P use the same runners, so should be a direct fit, i cannot comment about the electrical, i think i read a thread about the electrical somewhere on here but cannot recall.

Sorry i cannot be more help

Not a problem, appreciate the response.

Some higher spec Audi’s have a pull out seat base so you can increase your thigh support. I’m sure RS3’s have them. Also have a look at S4, S5, RS4 & RS5 seats, they have them as well. Not sure how easy they fit but someone will know on the forum,
not going be cheap though. They’ll all have the logos embossed though.
The saggy rear seat leather is usually caused by wetting them too much during cleaning but easily and cheaply changed, have a look on Ebay or a breakers website.
If you contact @Ash187 he’s a retrofitter and knows what fits.

I fit A5 seats into my a3, mainly for the electric lumbar adjustment. Pretty easy to fit, scariest part is cutting the airbag connector off to wire the a3 connector to. Rears take a bit more work, the base is fairly easy but the backs need a bit of cutting to fit

Germans are not very good at seats or comfort :) I have to admit on several longer journeys i have taken my Vivaro van as is a lot more comfortable than a stock S3.Mine has got a bit better with age as the driver seat has collapsed, i now have an extra 25mm head room :)

I find Audi seats always comfortable, they are made for manly shoulders, nice and wide.
Did try an A45 a year ago but the seats ar so narrow in the upper body area, must be made for slim whippersnappers.
Any car seat eventually moulds itself to to your body shape, like an old pair of slippers, you never feel comfortable in anew pair.

The 8v seats need a part on the rail cut off and need to be rewired and if your looking for heated you would need the correct Climate control too .

Where did you get the info to splice and connect the airbag plugs? I will be doing this soon.

Thanks!

Did you had to solder them or re arrange some pins?

I think I scored a set with heating which I am not sure I will bother with for now. With the black one you did the same? Splice and solder? (I think is the the ocuppanvy sensor and seat belt if I got that right)

And did you had to cut that black pin?

I am almost done! :) Done the passenger side. all good no lights on the dash all working. The airbag I re-soldered but for the other loom I replaced the whole cable up to where it is attached at the bottom of the seat where it is in fact the same exact connector. I trusted that if the use the same loom up there the cables will coincide at the the bottom even if they are not the same color and so they did!

I'm quite late to this thread but have the same problem with A3 8P front seat comfort.
So is the conclusion that A5 front seats are a decent improvement & not too difficult to fit ?
Thanks
John
