Silica bag removed

See those metal tangs in your first picture?
Its pressing near the bag.

As you are at the front of the engine and looking in the tank, its in the far right corner , use a butter knife to manuver it towards the hole
@CanadaA3wales I stuck my pen in there and rummaged it around the tank and definitely couldn’t feel anything in there.

It may be a unit that either does not have the bag in it, it may have already been removed or some units have the bags built in, so you will need to buy a new tank, they are only about 25.00
If you look on the sides you would be able to see it, its quite big.

If it had it built in, would I be able to see it? The car was owned by someone who worked for a VAG specialist before me.

You have a unit that has been identified as having a bag, you can tell by the name of the tank.

If its a contained bag you will see 2 walls on your tank.

Mine is just a normal tank with the bag on the side which was in a little plastic holder, but you can still get to it.

The other ones have a double wall, you will see a outer wall and inner wall, those ones need to be replaced as the bag is inbetween the walls of the tank and cannot be removed.

If yours is a single wall and there is 100% no bag then the owner probably realised the issue and removed it himself.

I have not personally seen the dual wall tanks as mine was a single wall and you could see the bag sitting against the wall in its own little housing.

Beside the prongs is where my bag was.

I am thinking that the previous owner has removed the bag already, but obviously cannot be sure.

You will be able to tell if its a single or dual wall as there would be space between the walls.

I think it’s been removed then. I will check closer in daylight to be sure.

Yeah I would think so if he was a VAG tech as he would be well aware of the potential dangers of it bursting, or it did burst and thats why all the coolant work was done on your invoice.
You will 100% be able to tell if its a 3mm plastic wall, or much thicker dual wall.
Also you should still be able to see it through the plastic as the bag is a lot darker pink than the rest of the liquid.
Daytime would be best.

What letter is at the end of your tank part number? Mine was original 2013 A I think and it had a double wall. Couldn't see the bag without smashing g the bottle. The latest version is M and there are wma few revisions.
