Hi,
Bought a SUP, cant be bothered to inflate it every time so had the great Idea of putting it on the roof.
Thought I would get some bars...easy!

Contacted Audi in the UK: was told I need the 4F...666

Tried them today. not even remotely fitting, totally wrong.

the 4G9 071 151 L is 2012/13 onwards depending on whichever site. the profile is not correct, It has the under clamp for raised rails.

However, on the audi site there is a picture, the only one on the internet by the look of it and it has the above 4G product number, in the Allroad section showing the bars are on raised rails but the clamp is a flush rails clamp without underclamp bar. I guess its for an Avant. Either way, the picture is not of the 4G code.

Anyway. those must be the bars I typically need. A search of the 4F and 4G numbers above are futille as neither fit.

So it looks like I have a 2011 A6 Allroad with raised rails that takes bars that are for flush mounted rails and look like the bars advertised for a later model that dont fit.

Contacted an Audi Europe, was told the 4G would not fit but was not told what would.

My question is, what is the part code for the ones shown in the picture, is it an Avant with flush rails after the 4f...666 ?
and what Frankenaudi have I got?

The pin locators are approx. 90mm apart and the distance between them side to side back is approx 103.5cm front 104.8

The 4G 9071151A for 2011 Avant onwards on audi spares shows model usage shows 2012 onwards on the same site??

This was supposed to be easy

Any help appreciated

Pics of car & your rails needed.

They are roof bars for the newer A6 models. You need part number 4F9 071 151 You may also see it ending with 666 which just denotes the colour of the bars which are silver

Do they have to be audi bars?

there’s some very food ones out there, who spa bars for example.

Unfortunately they are not. I have tried them. The pins don't match...by a long shot

I would prefer the Audi bars as I can expect a standard. Failing that I will try the rest but the search puts me off a bit.

I think the ones needed are for the non raised rails and they hook under the slight overhang. Like in the first picture off the web above. Which are advertised as the 4G9 071 151 L...but they are not (its a generic picture from a previous model. The 4G9 071 151 has the under bar for the rails and no pins) as they are for the raised rail but too wide (outwith the width adjustment unless modified) and the profile is different....even though my rails are raised it probably takes the non raised rail bars, probably for an Avant.

I am guessing the answer will be in the pin spacing and an Avant with non raised rails???

I missed the Allroad in your original post. Part number for the Allroad is

Audi bars are no better that the Yakima whispbar I have. They are some of, if not the best aero bars on the market. Audi’s are only someone else’s rebranded.

have a look on

So just to confirm you have tried both 4F9071151L 666 and 4F9071151 666? (L being for the Allroad and non-L for the standard Avant)

There is only 1 part number list in ETKA (4F9071151L 666) for the C6 Allroad which ran between 2007 & 2011, the C7 Allroad did not start production unit 2013 and the part number for that model is (4G9071151L 666).

If your sure 4F9071151L 666 does not fit then I would take the car to your local Audi dealer and get them to order you and set and if they don't fit they would have to investigate why as they would not be able to charge you. It could be the rails on your car have been incorrectly manufactured and need replacing, which could be free of charge as it would be 100% a manufacturing fault.

Sure... but do you know which Audi bars have locating pins roughly 90 mm apart (see picture) or a single pin, someone who does, or where I can get them???

Thats a yes or no answer.

Thanks

Are there any audi bar sets with locating pins approx. 90 mm apart for 2011 vehicles (see picture) ????

That would be great!

Thanks NHN

do those holes go straight through into the bar, by that I mean they don’t have a back to them, but have been drilled straight into the void? It looks that way by the depth the points of your callipers are in.

If they do then I think they might have been drilled by a previous owner( presumption you aren’t original owner) as the holes on my rails are more like indents approx 50mm apart that the lugs locate into.

is it possible these are aftermarket rails as I did a quick search and from what I could find even the lug indents on a all road were 50mm apart. (Correction found some on eBay and they are indeed approx 90mm)

I would suggest ringing the company I gave the link to. I found them really knowledgable and they might be able to advise you if your lug with is correct or has been added by looking at some of their kits. alternatively go to halfauds and open a kit there to have a look.

They don't give the pin length in etka and they only list the one set of bars for the c6 allroad. The screen shot I posted is from etka (Audi's parts software)and that is the only information given.

They are backed (no void) manufacturer made (not drilled). Original rails.

Length isn't an issue. Distance between the pins is....approx. 90mm (see picture).

I get it, non Audi bars are great.

Thanks

Why are you getting all defensive?

All I’m trying to do is help but if you want to be funny then I’m out. Just asking questions so I could get a better understanding of the situation.

I’m out.

Fairly sure I know what I have now...a 2011 with 2012 rails. I see the 2012 plus models also have the same hole spacing but the bars don't have pins. However the widths are a bit different between the rails and outwith adjustment...I am sure some 4G's can be modified.
