Type of DSG in new Audi A3 1.5 TFSI

Hi guys,

I went today to see and get prices on a new Audi A3 S line 1.5 TFSI S-tronic (7-Speed).

I really liked the car even though is above my budget ( I might need to change my budget ). Both inside and outside are great for me.

One question I have is about the DSG.

I know for low torque cars VW use the DQ200(dry) dsg type. I read online some stories about the problems with mechatronics many years ago and I am bit sceptical. In my country the manual option is not available.

When I mentioned the DSG type and the old problems the saleman told me that the new A3s does not use a dry DSG anymore. I havent understood entirely but this is what he said. I tried to find online the DSG type but with no success.

Do you guys know what type of DSG goes in the new Audi A3 1.5 TFSI?

Since I will post here, I also want to know about the recent DSGs reliability. Does any of you have more than 100,000 miles on a dsg without expensive problems?

I now this was asked million of times online but I couldnt find any serious complaints the last yeas which I believe is a good thing.

I would avoid the 1.5 TSI engine at all costs.

Thank you. I didnt know about that.

I believe the 1.5 tfsi is the most common engine that is bought with this car, isnt it?

Yeah probably. The way the world is going i’m afraid. 2.0l tdi is a better engine although kills polar bears

Thanks. I read that these problems seems to be resolve. Hope is true.

My question for the DSG remains though. I might talk with the salesman again if I decide to proceed.

Only applies to engines fitted with a manual box. Besides VAG have updated the software to stop this from happening when engine is cold.
I asked my brother who has just bought an A1 1.5 dsg (August this year) he reports no issues regarding juddering when cold.

This has largely been resolved, lovely engine...

I have heard otherwise, even with the update the issue still persists, to a lesser extent but it is still there.

It’s not really though, its geared towards economy, it’s boring, sluggish, lethargic, sounds crap, the clutch bite is horrible, manual gear change is horrible, just a boring uninspiring engine.

I suppose it depends what your expectations are. I test drove the 150bhp version, coupled to the DSG box, in a mk 8 Golf and it seemed plenty fast enough to me. But then I’m looking for a car to drive on UK roads rather than a track-day car.

the 1.5 manual on mine isnt fixed, yet there is no update for it neither...

Or perhaps it’s at its best as part of a MHEV package?

Quite, I have driven the earlier 1.5 manual, 8v, and found it to be similar to the 1.4 manual A3 saloon I once had...

Does the new audi A3 uses or not the dq200 on its 1.5l Petrol version?

The literature for the 1.5 TSIe DSG - the same drivetrain as the A3 35 TFSI S-Tronic - in the Golf 8 references the DQ200.

The 1.5 tends to be Skoda-made and shared within the VW Group, so I'm assuming that this is the same here.
