Hope you can help me on the subject. I am based in Sweden and own a LHD 2005 A3 8p 2.0tfsi Quattro . I have recently completed the 1 to 2 din conversion for the centre console. I also managed to source a newer style set of switches and trim in the middle. My question is : Would those switches work in my car and how? There is a single red connector instead of the three in my car...

I think this was asked not long ago and the answer was no.

I shall see if I can find the thread.

perhaps @NHN could chip in?

Yes they will work, albeit not start stop as wasn't on an 05, but you need to rewire to the new 10pin red connector.

Whats the point of 3 blank buttons? When I did my 2 din conversion, I had a card holder with my cage instead of blanks.
Also, is there an option to change card holder to a cup holder, because center console has 1 proper cupholder, and if I have a passenger, they get to keep their drink in their hands.

Thanks. In that case would it be possible to just replace the left hand side row of switches with something like this (thinks it's from the earlier facelift version, still has the new style switches but retains the old connectors). Just asking since the newer set of switches seems to be one piece that you cannot take apart to replace individual switches...

It will work, just remember which connector is which, because I plugged in hazards to esp and esp to hazards (it worked, just the buttons were swapped)

You're over complicating things, buy the red connector grab the wiring schematics & rewire it, its that simple tbh, I've stripped all versions & tbh its a pain to risk breaking pieces, just do it properly you wont regret it.

I hear you...Any pointers as to where I could get hold of the diagrams and the connector? Any special tools needed for that type eof connector?

009 wires pop out with a thin pointed tool, easily done & elsawin is your friend for wiring diagrams.

The one with old separate connectors just plugs in and works, you don't need to wire anything, that is less of over complicating than wiring it yourself. When I bought my 2 din cage, it came with buttons with separate connectors, and they just work.

Untill what year is this ? Is it from 10 or 11 that it becomes one strip?

Looked around, and it seems like you are correct.

this one is from 2009 and it is has old connectors, you would need something like this.

I also found interesting mod if you might be interested in integrated cupholder (because I am): https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/cup-holder-mod-for-facelift-a3-s3.82418/

Thanks for the info! I will definately look into the cupholder conversion. Unfortunately for the other part you are suggesting I need to find the complete assembly since the one I have purhased from the later model doesn't seem be possible to disassemble.... Maybe you still have a list of part numbers from your conversion?

I bought complete cage with the buttons from local scrapyard, so I don't have the part numbers. It would have been good if I had taken photos of the numbers for reference, but did not thought of it at the time.
