My Audi Connect rolled over it's licences again on the 27th October for another year as per normal. Esim and data state until 2115, lol, not sure if I'm keeping the car until then.

However Google overlay no longer works and states I need to renew the licence in myaudi website. I don't seem to be able to locate where they mean within the site to renew this licence.
Has anyone experienced this?

Having said that I always knew google overlay would be ending this year so I'm wondering if this is what's happening.
Any owners with pre 2018 models also lost this?

Google services are no longer supported by Audi's tech on those models using its MMI MIB 2, so Audi says. Something Google has changed making it incompatable with the system

Mine is still working. Licensed till March, so I suppose I’ll lose it then! Which will be a bit annoying.

A bit annoying!!!! I’ll be thoroughly p1ssed off if I lose google maps overview....it’s what makes having VC worthwhile!
Are we sure it’s going ???

Sorry to say, and it doesn't give me any pleasure - but start being thoroughly #£&£) off now to save full disappointment later.

Such a poor show by Audi. A 2018 Android smartphone can cope with the continued Google services from any manufacturer. Yet a supposed 'premium' car marque can't. It goes to show the below-par components they used in the MMI in the first place. Cars last years, this tech has hardly hit 24 months. I'm now in n MMI 3 2020 Audi A5 with the newer tech. No doubt that will be obsolete in 24 months

Same happened to me. I renewed the license via the Audi Digital Services Team who also said:

"You may experience issues with Navigation with Google Earth™. We kindly inform you that it is not coming from our end. Due to our dependency on Google to provide the “Google Earth” functionality for Audi Connect, this map view will no longer be available for some Audi models from 1st January 2021. However, we have witnessed many cases where the service has already stopped being available.

The replacement service Audi Connect "Satellite Card", can be downloaded via a free software update during the warranty period and re-activated (license terms and extensions remain unaffected). Please, speak to your local Audi Centre for more details."

I have sent the details to my local Audi dealership but have not yet received a reply.

Interesting, I also have an MY17, four years old on November 17. My connect licences have renewed automatically and Google Earth is working fine.

Stuff like this is why I'd much rather use a car that is compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It saves the hassle of constantly having to update the car software all the time. The only downside is that I believe AA and Apple Carplay cannot be displayed on the virtual cockpit.

Agree totally.
Increasingly I only use Apple CarPlay for navigation as its improved a lot and is so easy. Any future vehicle must have this functionality or I wouldn't buy it, but loads do now fortunately. Probably make traditional car satnavs obsolete eventually.

And no you can't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on the VC.

You'd think that car manufacturers would catch onto this but they're still insisting on putting in this incentive but you're right in what you said. It's a matter of time.

As I stated I already knew that the Google overlay was going to end. However as far as I understand this is not down to Audi but Google making the setup incompatible with the versions of the mmi prior to 2019.
I'm going to live with it as I scarcely drive any distance these days, if at all...

Manufacturers hate having to pay £££ (or local currency) to Apple and Google to licence the software - so they waste more money on developing their own!

That's a shame on them. I wouldn't be surprised if years to come all Manufacturers just buys licences from Google for their cars.

The Google maps satellite view doesn't use Google Earth. My MY19 didn't even come with Google Earth because of this but has the satellite view shouldn't be affected. That's what I was told anyway.

Same thing happened on mine, four years to the day after collection.
I spoke to Audi CS as the message you get popping up on the hmi seems to intimate that you might be able to get an extension.
Long story short the guy said mine is on the cusp of possibly being eligible for a free upgrade by a dealer to the new nav - he said that it’s not google as such but the team at Audi that manage the old system is being wound down.
Makes sense I guess as a satellite view is still supported by the new nav systems.
I did explain how helpful UK Audi dealerships were (this guy was clearly in the US) and that I didn’t hold out much hope of this “free” upgrade but he was pretty cool and said if I felt I was getting fobbed off that I should ring them back whilst I was at the dealers.
It needs a service in a month or so, what the hell - I’ll give it a go....

BTW, it sounds like such a first world problem but I’m surprised how much I relied on the google overlay for navigating, I use it most days for work and the lack of detail on normal nav took some adjusting to.
