Popping in hoping for some advice . Paid small deposit for 2017 2.0 tfsi A3 with only 13k on the clock, yet my dealer (not Audi dealer) said (after receiving the car from Volkswagen dealership ) that it does not like the clutch as it feels hard. Car is being sent off to Audi Garage (still under Audi's warranty) to have the clutch or part of is replaced.
Have 2 questions now
-why would the clutch die after only 13K ?? Was the engine redlined half the time and perhaps the engingine is not the best too
- if the clutch is replaced and signed off by Audi should I expect eventual issues ??, should I by happy with the new clutch and trust Audi Garage that the car is in great nick or just turn around and look for a different car

Many thanks in advance

Sometimes these things happen. Every component has an average expected lifetime, but there will always be those with much shorter or much longer lifetimes. It must be that a failed part (as opposed to wear and tear) is the cause or the warranty wouldn’t cover it. I’d take it as good that you know you’re starting with a good clutch. I’d also make sure you get a renewal quote from Audi for the extended warranty a week or two before the original 3 year warranty expires, for peace of mind at around £300 for 2 more years.

Could be a couple of things.
1, Some ahole riding the clutch, you only have to rest your foot on the clutch pedal for it to have an adverse affect.
2, Some clutches are dependant on who manufactured them. I have had a clutch fail on a two week old car due to the flywheel being goosed.
Ensure they inspect the flywheel as well. once replaced by Audi the clutch should be as good as new.

How do you know the clutch is actually gone, you say its hard, but some clutches can feel this way depending on the make.
You can get people riding the clutch so it does not mean its been ragged.

You need to ask who owned the car before you and why they sold it, this may give you a answer, is the car modded, this may show the car had been ragged before it was part ex, I know people do this and they do it with rented vehicles as well, they just rag them.

A clutch is a servicable item and can go at anytime, but 13k is very suspect.

I doubt you will ever know if the car had been abused, and it has a full warranty, it may have belonged to someone who liked to ride the clutch and it burnt out, or like you said, someone may have abused the car before.

The dealer that is sourcing the car for me has probably 20 odd cars all are up 3 years old A3 and A4 so I guess he kinda eats and breaths audi, that is why he probably knows if smth doesn't feel right.
Not sure if Audi will disclose the contact details of the previous owner though.

As car is still under Audi warranty so highly doubt if there were an mods done to it. Unless they super hidden.

Thanks for the input though. I guess anything is possible in used car market
