Hi everyone.

I am closing up on retrofitting a cruise control on my 05.

Explored all the options, I was quoted £250+ to have it done, (can't do) I was quoted £118 for the stalk alone (nope)... and I ended up getting the whole Stalk set and the cowling for £40 off a salvage yard and I went for it.

The set (8P0907137CF) includes the headlight stalk 8p0 953 513 F and the CC (Which I presume is the same part number) and the wiper stalk 8P0 953 519 E.

This is a type 2 turn signal and my 8p has a type 1.

I do however have a midline cluster with steering column 1K0 953549F which if I am understanding right from this link will go with Type 2.

I really don't care much for which type of high beam stalk I end up with as long as it works as it should. My newbie question is whether I should replace the whole stalk set (since I have it) or split the stalks...

I will deal and/or ask with coding it with my obdeleven pro later. Does not seem to be super complicated. I have the patience, the courage and the respect for the process and there are plenty of guides and videos about it.

Any tips about this particular issue will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Just wanted to ask, what's a type 1 and 2 signal? Are you referring to the images/icons printed on the indicator stalk being different to the stalk you have at the moment?

ah right. No idea, but someone who I think can help is Ash at Audi retrofits. He does these all the time and will probably know which parts work with which.

Thanks George. I read that as well. That is the source of my confusion. Since I have both Type 1 (currently on the car from factory) and type 2 along the cc stalk I am not sure which one to hack. Are you suggesting that I take the type 2 and follow the guide to make it function like a type 1?

For sure you should have the same operation on the stalk as your original had.
Type 1 to activate high beam, you push the stalk towards the dash and the stalk stays there.
Type 2 to activate high beam, you push the stalk towards the dash and the stalk comes back in the middle position.

You have make the new stalk that you bought (type2) to work as your original (type 1).

It's a bit finicky to swap internals around between 1 & 2, as it has PCB sliders inside & these are lined up with plastic lugs that are easily snapped of if not done right, so think wisely about swapping across, swapped them over many times over the years due to client or Audi supplying wrong version.

Thank you both. I am aware of the obvious risks involved but my budget is very limited and I have tackled quite a few of this projects so with care, patience and the right tools I should be able to do it.

Last redundant question... I bought a spare Type 1 stalk to fiddle with it with peace of mind. If I succeed off the car than I have greater confidence in the rest of the process.

Just to confirm... On my new setup I need to retain the electronic components of the Type 2 and swap the mechanical one to act like a type one right?

Since I bought the correct stalk when I did the retrofit, I have not done the stalk swap myself.
But as I understand from the video, the only part that is swapped is the stalk that you push with your hand and the small plastic piece that holds the stalk in position seen in 03:20 of the video.
The electronics are different in the two stalks. The CC has a bigger pcb board. So you keep the electronics of the type 2 stalk.

Set myself to start the stalk surgery and found the video to be a lot more harder to follow that I originally thought. I was lucky enough to find the right part off ebay for £15! and I had already purchased the right cowling.

O dearest patience what would we do without you!
