Q3 Auto handbrake....how should it work?

I always reverse the car into my drive which is slightly downhill. When I come to a stop, switch off and move to the P position, I have to manually pull up the handbrake everytime or it doesn't activate.
I've retrofitted the autohold switch and that doesn't work in reverse either.
It works fine going forward.
All my previous Audi's worked the same forward and reverse but thus doesn't
Is it correct or is something amiss?

Mine comes on automatically if auto hold button is engaged.

Yeah I'm sure I've got something going wrong somewhere.
I noticed it before changing the switch/coding tbh as I was having to manually pull up the handbrake everytime after reversing to a stop. Going forwards works as it should.
When I put the gearbox into R, the light on the autohold goes off straight away.

You need to look at the VCDS change logs to see if you changed anything prior to the switch fitting.

Thats the thing though, the handbrake didn't come on after using reverse even before the new switch/coding.
Vcds info is very limited on the 8U Q3, there are very few modules with any coding info unlike the A3 platforms

If you haven’t altered anything then maybe that’s the way the RSQ3 is set up from factory.

Cheers Alan confirms what I thought. I've parked up a couple a couple of times and almost got out before I've realised the handbrake wasn't on.
I'll get it booked in when I have the chance :icon thumright:

I need to test this on my new SQ5, have noticed similar behaviour, couldn’t figure it out and the forward/reverse might be it. I haven’t coded it, it’s as it came from factory.

Ju, had a better think (lol) backing up my drive/ and driving up and down , brake does not come on, but when im out and about , brake comes on at lights ect then i just drive off, Is this what your asking about ??

Reading your first post , Book it in to the stealer. (dealer) York Audi are brilliant , If you want the warrantee guys number I have it,

Basically Alan, when I first noticed it, I'd popped into my local tesco's.
I reverse parked as I always do and switched off. As I got out I felt the car move slightly and realised the handbrake wasn't on.
I've had 3 cars with an electronic handbrake (an R36, 8V S3 and 8R SQ5) and all would have automatically put the handbrake on.
They all had factory auto hold too and worked in reverse the same as forwards. The wife used to turn it off everytime (which annoyed me) because she hated reversing with the autohold on.
This RSQ3 doesn't automatically put the handbrake on after using reverse or the autohold while in reverse. As soon as you go back to "D" the autohold light comes back on the switch and everything works as should.
I'm wondering if there's a problem with the gear selector switch

I also can’t figure out the logic on my SQ5 regarding the handbrake. Forward or reverse it doesn’t come on automatically, but the other day, slight downhill, stopped and it applied it without the auto hold being pressed. My previous Alfa Stelvio applied it automatically when you pressed P, cannot get the Audi to do it. I normally
Reverse onto my drive, have tried all combinations of forward reverse stop auto hold etc and can’t get it to do it.

Steve Did you have seatbelt on ? Ju I never have to put brake on (to park) the green light comes on the dash When i want to go , I just go, When I stop (To park up) the auto (red) brake comes on, Then to go, Ive to press that, Not good at putting words on a keyboard, ?? I can build hoses though LoL.

I'm sure somethings wrong Alan, like I've said, I'm used to the electronic handbrake and this isn't right.
I'm with you on the keyboard front.....makes loads of sense in my head, its the putting into a coherent sentence that's the problem lol

This RSQ3 is absolutely brilliant mate!
Just had a couple of days near Chester and with the suspension set to comfort it just glides over the road. Hit the country lanes in dynamic and its a blast :yahoo:

It does sound sweet when you plant the right foot and get up into the higher revs bracket, it's also nice to have the pops back on the gear changes.
The throttle pick up is a lot quicker than the SQ5 for that initial take off although it doesn't have the lowdown torque and so needs to be rev'd harder once moving.
The seats aren't as comfy but then they are that little bit smaller than the SQ5 and not as deep to allow more rear legroom. Only a minor gripe, but then I am 6'3 and larger framed!
The previous owner wrapped it in cotton wool. No swirl marks in the paint, not a single mark in the interior, mats unused and even still has the protective tape on the rear chrome strip in the boot floor!

Yep, I'll agree with ALL of that - bearing in mind the RSQ3 is a lot lighter than the SQ5 - enjoy

RSQ3 a BIG step up from SQ5 Ju, best of both worlds I reckon...convenience and useability of SUV, with THAT 5 pot

It's a step in a different direction to the SQ5, not a big step up if I was being honest. They are both great cars but deliver very different driver experiences so it depends what you want from a car.
One of the highlights of the SQ5 is the engine in the same way the 5 pot is in the RSQ3. The RS is just way more engaging both in power delivery and chassis response.
For blasting up and down the motorway the SQ5 is king, for everything else its the RS.
People do say its Audi's hidden gem....they're not wrong its a cracking package :thumbs up:

I did say 'agility' was the big difference for me between our RS3 and SQ5 - both are fabulous.

You got secondary cats on that machine Ju?

Huge difference in response and the snap/crackle/pop without and almost zero difference in emissions - like with secondary cats our RS3's CO was 0.01% and 0.02% without and the pass limit 0.20%

Just don't MOT at an Audi dealership as the 'count' the number of cats, as they should!

Our cats have been in the loft for 8-years now and no, I don't have to feed 'em
