Hi I have a 2007 s3 8p Manual and I want to change the Gearbox oil. Can anyone help me in what oil should I buy and do I need one of those special tools for the plug? Very new to Audi and want to start trying to fix small problems myself

For gearbox, diff and Haldex just stick to genuine Audi oil. Not sure about tools sorry.

Give Opie Oils a call and they’ll give advice, otherwise Audi. Do you have any VW/Audi specialists near you - where you located, others here may provide suggestions.

Newcastle mate al have a little look on google now. Like a say am just starting out so havnt got a clue but really appreciate your help

If you are just starting doing mechanicing changing the gearbox oil is not in lesson 1. Other easier stuff to get you going.
However if you are keen to have a go, best to use the genuine oil for your car from Audi.
Also a little tip to make sure you get enough oil in - fill it up as advised in Haynes then put the filler plug in and go for a drive round the block. Let the car stand and then recheck the level, you may get some more in.
Another bigger tip is to make sure you can undo the filler plug first so you know you can get oil back in rather than drain it out and then struggle to undo the filler plug!
A special tool is needed.

Don’t worry I will have a mechanic with me but only to watch, I want to be able to learn on my own and just go to him every time I have problem

Just make sure you undo the the fill plug first before undoing the drain otherwise your be in a world of pain (if you can't undo the fill plug).

Take some photos and make a guide, I'm sure others would appreciate it. Always mean to do this but these days everything's on YouTube.

Only use genuine oil if you want to be ripped off .

These specialist oil companies have a product and highly likely one might produce the genuine .

went with sintofluid 75w on my 6spd, little less notchy when cold and cant tell the difference when hot. £10 a litre as well

I only ever use genuine gear oils after a transmission specialist replaced the gear box oil in my Mk 4 Gti at 100k as part of other work. They used Castrol that appeared to be the correct viscosity but in the cold weather later in the year gear change from 1st - 2nd and 3rd - 2nd was virtually impossible until it warmed up. As the last option before getting rid of the car I had the Castrol flushed out and replaced with genuine VAG oil for my car and the transformation was amazing. In fact far better than before the dodgy oil change.

Castrol what... and genuine was ?

As it is 3.5 years ago, I cannot remember the exact specification of the Castrol oil.
The oil used by VW afterwards was the latest genuine VW oil specified for my gearbox. Maybe not cheap but it prevented me selling the car that I have owned since 1998 so cheaper in the long run.
