Hey all,

After getting rid of my 2019 RS5 and moving across to a BMW 330i I have to say after 3 months I'm back again!
I'm not going to put the car down, BUT, personally its very boring, appears cheap in some areas (imo) and I just miss the Audi brand and quality.

The intention was to move from the RS5 to save money; when in fact its actually cost me shed loads now making these changes!!

Anyway.... I know its not to everyone's taste I'm sure, but I collect my Kyalami Green Vorsprung RSQ3 within 2 weeks time. Its a 20 registration, 1 owner with only 1,500 miles on the clock!

I have not test drove this, not seen the car in the flesh (metal), I know very little about them other than watching 'youtube' videos. From what I have seen it appears to be a very good car. I did toy with the S3 and RS3 but I think with the new ones around the corner I wanted something thats not going to be changing anytime soon and add to any depreciation.

I've no idea what this car looks like in real life, so any opinions on this or the car in general more than welcomed! :)

Congrats. As you say,not to everyone’s taste,(mine included) and about as subtle as a baseball bat to the head, but it’d be boring if we all liked the same cars. I’m sure it’s a great drive.

Thanks! :)
I know, trust me. If the choice was there then a grey, red or anything other than bright green would have been my choice! I agree its a bit loud, but I did convince myself that this is the type of car that could just about pull it off being an RS model. I'm sure there are others that love this colour!? Maybe :)

Lol,I’m sure there will be plenty. I hope you are happy being the centre of attraction everywhere you go,as you are sure going to be. I look forward to your experiences with it in future posts. My Sepang Blue 8U RS would be invisible parked next to your beast

Hi folks, I hope you are all well.

Collected my RSQ3 Sportback just before lockdown, and it is growing on me. However, it is too quiet, and lacks drama (due to the filters I believe). Are there any places doing custom exhausts for these yet?

Thank you

What do you mean growing on you? The colour or just the entire car wasn't quite right?
I don't think any are loud anymore, my RS5 had a great sound imo but others will say it was quiet and lacked sound - but then I suppose it depends what you had before. If you previously owned a V8 or earlier version then perhaps, but for me it was loud, popped and crackled so was great.

Not sure on the RSQ3, but intrigued by the 5 pot people talk about!

I actually parked next to a kayalami green RSQ3 sportback today and I thought it looked really good
I was going to take a picture but my son wouldn't let me lol. it also seemed a lot bigger than my 8U RSQ3!
I wouldn't worry about the colour it'll look great on an RS, I think the Java green on my car is the best part of it......IMO obviously:icon thumright:

Congrats Firecracker - I too have agreed to purchase a 2020 RSQ3 without driving it - mine is in Daytona Grey/Aral Blue interior RSQ3 standard on 20" rims, pano/C&S pack/TP monitoring and the 5yr/90,000 mile Warranty. Collection is currently the 28th Oct though seriously pondering over bringing it forward as tighter lock-downs seem inevitable.

Interesting over the 2019 RS5, I traded a fabulous 2015 Sepang Blue RSQ3 340PS for a Jan 2018 B9 450PS - RS4 (with every option - ex Audi UK press car) in October '18 and hated it within a month, really good at everything except being fun to drive, quick but no waaay of ever getting to the ragged edge of something terminal - felt like the car was sneering at my lack of stupidity.... so traded the RS4 just over6 months later for a 2016 RSQ3 Performance (367 PS), actually a smidge quicker than the current RSQ3 which would definitely allow me to kill me self through lack of imagination - so is desirable....that's perverse isn't it? The RSQ3 Performance hasn't put a foot wrong - I'm just a bit bored with it - shameful.

The F3 RSQ3 is 95mm longer than the 8U...not much in it.

Good to see some more F3 RSQ3’s on the forums. Kyalami was my first choice but I bottled it when ordering. I was going to order mica racing blue but at the time didn’t want to wait the extra time. Little did I know the world was going to fall apart and the basic colour car took the same time as an exclusive in the end.

If the previous RSQ3 is any indication then you have just bought a car with a split personality - proper Jekyll and Hyde job and truthfully all the better for it too. The RSQ3 engine is an amazing piece of engineering built around a single turbo (unlike the RS5 that had two), the motor is unique to Audi so not used in any other of the VW brands, assembled by hand in Gyor, Hungary. From an engine technology point of view it is truly cutting edge.

Driven normally an RSQ3 is swift and easy to live with, like a hooligan on best behaviour, squeeze just a little bit harder and the other personality appears, quickly, urgently with an addictive sound-track to match, I actually prefer it over both V6 and V8s, just a bit nuts - and almost unique in the market today.

Bluey engine

:thumbs up:

The only issue I have with the current car is the gearbox. I don’t think it’s anywhere near as sharp as the one in the 8P RS3 and 8V S3 I’ve had. I’m considering having it flashed. It’s just that little bit hesitant.

Thanks 45bvtc - great links, it is an amazing engine. The latest version has a light alloy engine block and hollow crankshaft together with a host of other changes - I seem to recall reading that it is 26Kg lighter now - the voracious appetite for 98+ octane hasn't diminished in any way however...

I was looking at this very car online the other day as it is the exact spec i would order.. and not too far from me.. not quite in the position to push the button a deal just yet though..

I have driven the Standard RSQ3 sportback, in turbo blue - which too common a colour in my opinion, every Audi model seems to come in it, I like the Green, exclusive to the RSQ3 and its an RS - what better than a loud paint job! Only thing that would make it better is a metallic, or crystal paint finish - my s3 was Ara Blue, one of Audis best colours of late in my opinion.

I enjoyed the drive, and can only imagine with the sports exhaust it sounds that bit better, plus I would never have it with out the pano roof, too dark in the cabin otherwise..

I am interested to see the new RS3 too, but judging by how the new S3 has turned out, I’ll be stick with an RSQ3 just like you have :)

Incidentally, for car that’s been out a year now, I have never seen one on the road, other than the one I drove, so a nice bit of exclusivity..

There are a lot of unsold F3 RSQ3 cars on sale in the UK today, a whole raft of 'Introductory Volume' vehicles in strange specifications with a common characteristic of no pano roof, that will make them stick to the dealer forecourt for sure. Some dealers are evidently passing registered vehicles straight into the non-franchised trade with delivery mileage only - we are living in strange times as we are all only too aware.

Excess new vehicle inventory, lack of confidence in the market and the RSQ3 being a niche car means that no one should pay silly money for one - as an example I'm just bought (collecting Friday) a brand new Std RSQ3 with pano/C&S/TP monitoring and a 5 yr warranty at nearly £10k off list.

Sure I'd of liked a sports exhaust and red brake calipers, but I'm not totally crazy when the right deal presents itself. Milltek and SuperSprint both do exhaust upgrades (around £2k), I'll try a Cete valve controller first though, there is a company in the west mids that does high quality caliper painting (off the vehicle) so all doable.

The RSQ3 has always been exclusive - even for the prior 8U model Audi UK sold less than 900 for the entire production run of 310/340 & 367PS cars, truly one of Audi's best kept secrets as ownership, whilst expensive comes with lots of wickedly stupid grins.

Nice discount, I test drove mine at a supposed VIP Audi event, and they wouldnt get close to anything like that kind of discount, so I have put the descision on pause for now..

It's a case of keeping a daily eye on Autotrader....I did! As of today, 20th Oct 2020, there are 100 RSQ3 2019 onwards. Add: sunroof to the search engine and there are 25 cars for sale.

Looks like we are both collecting our similar days then! I'm thinking of collecting earlier next week to avoid any potential issues re local lockdowns, especially with it being up North for me.

I got rid of the RS5 as since buying, in 7-8 months, I put on 1,800 miles! I just didnt drive it and with everything going on I thought I would save money so chopped it in for a BMW 330i. Then of course lockdown eased and travel was permitted again - but public transport is so bad at the moment I have reverted to driving so now going from an RS5 never driven to a BMW driven all the time but sooooo boring! Its such a dull car and cheaply made imo.

The RSQ3 I'm not expecting anything to rock my world, but I certainly expect it to beat the current BMW in every single way!
I do change cars quite often through boredom, but its an expensive hobby!!

Roughly whereabouts are you if you dont mind me asking - or nearest city? Was it around Leeds, Hull, York?

Funnily enough I was contacted last weekend to say another dealership had a customer interested with a collection day set for Monday just gone so I had some quick decisions to make. It was the only used Green RSQ3 Vorsprung on sale and I wanted this exact spec, also the customer had ticked the extras like red calipers, TPM and storage pack just for good measure!

Oh wow - Ara Blue!!! BEST colour ever imo!
I almost bought a brand new S3 saloon in Ara Blue, just couldnt get over the line with ordering it as was worried the new S3 was out so soon. Ended up with the S5 and 5 months later the RS5 so not all bad :)

Personally I dont like the new S3, interior or exterior. Hoping the new RS3 will improve drastically when they kit it up!?

So for now RSQ3 it is. Looking forward to collection day and will upload/update any thoughts and feelings then.

Nice discount and agree with everything said!

I can't say whether my deal was good or not? Perhaps you can all judge? All I know is it was the max I was willing to pay and even then I had to justify and force myself into a decision.

1,200 miles, 1 private owner, FULL spec as mentioned, 55k.
I know Audi would have bought it back off the customer around £50k tops and the rest is their markup. A friend of mines used to be a sales manager at Audi (some years ago now) who said they keep £4k minimum in their cars profit line. This covers workshop, overheads, advertising etc etc.

Feel free to all jump in, either way I cant change it as committed now :haha:

Based on what's out there at the moment £55k for a loaded top spec car is very keen price, probably £3-5k behind the typical asking prices.

I suspect, especially the other side of Christmas as we go into the New Year with the pandemic burden still around our necks and all the associated issues that go with it that RSQ3 prices, especially for all those unsold 2020 cars with sub-optimal specifications will take a dramatic tumble. Historically RSQ3' have lost £15-20k of their value in the first year....I know because I bought such a car with 3,000 miles/9 months old in 2016.

When are you going to pick your green weapon up?

I’m in Gloucester, so not that near, but ok for the right deal - looking forward to your thoughts on it..

Presuming it was a dealership car? Why would someone get rid of it with such low mileage and after such a short period of time?

The RS5 I bought was a pre reg. £14k off list, I sold it 6 months later losing 9k, and then Audi resold it for £8k more than the buy back!

So I’m hoping with the RSQ3 it will be worth mid 40s in a years time, who knows!?

Picking up Wed or Thur next week, not decided yet, but not long away!

Haha, you’re not far from me!
I saw it on Autotrader so made some enquiries and things moved quickly, its sat in Hull. Someone from Sheffield then enquired the weekend and the car was going to be transferred so I made a deal with them and put down a deposit. I thought you might’ve been the Sheffield guy!

Sadly, owner bought from new few months ago & wife passed.....

My RS5 I sold only had 1,800 miles on it when I got rid so not that uncommon

Collecting mine on Friday morning will be an early 160 mile drive to be on the dealer's door step at 0900 as I need to be on a conf call @ 1430 back in Warwick - will be an interesting drive back.

Speculating on future residuals, especially a year or so away will be especially tricky, hopefully this time next year a Covid vaccine roll-out will have started and the economy will be climbing out of recession. Over the last 4 or 5 years I've tended to buy cars outright rather than getting skinned by the dealer on a PCP (if you ever sit and do the numbers then it's a total con), this RS is the same and will, probably, be the last IC engine car I'll own.

Good luck. I’m sure you will find the Audi an improvement but my experience with a Q3 Sportback Vorsprung 45 as a ‘daily driver’ between April and July was not great. It replaced a 2018 S3 . Basically we found the Q3 Sportback Vorsprung was boring as hell with no soul. Love my B9 RS4 and the perception of quality is far better than Q3 in my opinion. Cheap plastics and a mass of Alcantara in bizarre places. Just my 2p and good luck to you. I’m sure an RS will be more fun than my 45 but if it’s minimal depreciation you are after I fear you may be disappointed.

Maybe I'd be doing the same as you and Ju but for us our SQ5 works, does everything; and then we have our TT and/or RS3 to go back to and reset our base lines and for sure going back to the SQ5 sure does justify our machinery - for the 'needs' we have! Were it any different it's be an RS7 for sure! :racer: But that's an OTT machine for hospital car park spaces - so an SQ5/RSQ3 does tick a lot of boxes!

Enjoy :thumbs up: :racer: :yahoo::superman:

And photos please

Nice one, enjoy the drive, look forward to the pics

Popped into Cheltenham Audi as had a day off, one RSq3, the one i have test driven, still not sold, and the new s3 in showroom, not a fan at the moment, at least not compared to previous version - plus the usual attitude at that dealership of completely ignoring me.

Stopped by BMW on way home, completely different attitude as always, very welcoming, and much better apr rates than Audi’s current joke of 6+%

Really want to get an RSQ3, but these experience constantly leave you with a bitter taste..

Contacted a couple of other dealerships ref some other examples currently on autotrader, and not really interested in even talking about a deal.. just that’s the price, do you want it or not..

What a shame mate, doesn’t help does it, when they ignore you. I have had two cars from Cheltenham in the past, but part of a bigger group now, and when we looked at A1 for wife late last year, they weren’t really interested and pricing was poor. Plus she didn’t like the A1 vs. the old one she used to have...common theme nowadays.

Got my X3 M40i from Cotswold BMW, now they know how to sell cars, and whole experience is great with coffee bar etc. If you fancy a X3M or M40i I can give you details for Sales Manager, he will do his best in numbers

Got my X3 M40i from Cotswold BMW, now they know how to sell cars, and whole experience is great with coffee bar etc. If you fancy a X3M or M40i I can give you details for Sales Manager, he will do his best in numbers

I’ve tried 3 times to buy a car from Cheltenham and always ended up elsewhere..

Cotswold bmw is so nice to visit, I went to see the new 4 series and check out that grille for myself lol.. whilst they had one there it was behind screens as they were filming it.. any excuse to use the free café though..

I know the manager of the mini side, he’s always offered to sort me out if go BMW/mini.. still want the RSq3 though.. maybe one day..

I find with Audi these days that local loyalty counts for nothing and it's a case of finding the car you want/at the money you want to pay and be prepared to travel.

The new RSQ3 has been bought entirely on-line, I have a video of the actual car and there are tons of reviews out there - the 1st time I'll actually sit in the car will be tomorrow at 9am. The best review I found was an unsponsored one (the reviewers that have been lent cars for review are unlikely to tell the total truth because they can't be impartial to stay employed) I'm fairly certain that this guy bought it with his own money.

You mention the Audi APR rate - you'd have to be out of your tree to buy an Audi on a PCP deal....

Thanks Ju! Yeah, slightly concerned, my trip is a mere 157 miles each way, your trek must have been even further.

I am the same, buying an RS4 from a dealer 130 miles away and have a video and pictures of the car but never seen it, only 10 days to go. Its new, its warrantied and if there is anything wrong I will get it fixed or they will get it back - but so far I have to say everything about the dealer (Stoke Audi) has been first rate.

Now about the finance - the APRs are rubbish.... but you get a contribution to buy on finance so I would say you have to be mad not to buy on PCP these days. Whether it stays that way will depend on how cash rich I feel and whether I think other investments that would need to be sold will do better over next couple of years than the APR costs. And of course, whether I think the GFV will come in to play to protect my asset value in 4 years if I want to walk away.... a few extra quid in interest is nothing compared to a £5k or £10k bath on residuals.....

Maybe I am not out of my tree after all, you know, being a numbers man for a living!

Yeah just a bit!
2 trains linked by the tube across London with the other half in her wheelchair and an overnight hotel stay, followed by a 240 mile drive back home in what was the wettest day for months.........but it was Soooo worth it!
