Does anyone know how to remove the MMI wheel button? Its the advanced tech pack where you can write on the MMI wheel for address input?

I need to take apart all the buttons to clean some stickyness out. I got the hole unit disassembled apart from this one part which prevents the buttons being taken out .

I know the volume button just pulls off, but I cant seem to shift the MMI button in the same way

i have had the whole thing apart - and the large button was the final thing that i needed to remove to get the unit out from the console

Pulls straight up and off. It be careful if you have the tech pack, there are wires which run to the touchpad on top of the wheel which you could break if pulled to hard.

Thank you. I have put on a TTRS wheel and want to get a new panel for console that does not have the start button.

When I was learning how to change the LED's on these boards, I managed to destroy two of the MMI wheels by just 'pulling up'. There are clips and lugs around the side of the wheel, which are barely accessible. If someone could show me how they manage to do this without breaking the lugs I would love to know! :)

I presume you mean the actual wheel, or do you mean the mmi console itself?

I want to put on a new lower "C" panel that doesn't havd a start stop button. I have console disaszembled except for this part. I need to get the wheel off to remove the Mmi unit from this panel. I have a 2018 RS with tech pack high do it has the wider wheel that you can write on. I don't see any lugs or clips anywhere around the wheel. Maybe I have to look harder. I don't want to break the wherl.

Why do you need to remove the wheel? The MMI console comes off as one entity and can then be replacing back into the new centre console.

Good luck trying to do what you are doing, never worked for me and I tried quite a few.

I have a TTRS steeri g wheel now abd don't need the button on console. So I want to replace the back top part with the piece that does not have the start stop hole. And, to do this, I need to remove the MMI unit from it. And I have it loose and the only thing not allowing me to complete remove it is the wheel do it has to be removed.

I get it now, sorry it was my misunderstanding, yes thats exactly the same place I got to and then pulled the wheel off shattering all the lugs that reside inside. Then like the bellend I am, tried it again on another unit same happened despite being so careful, so I gave up and bought the correvt console.

Thanks. I now see 4 small metal lugs at the base of the MMI wheel. Do I press those in or clip something underneath and pull up? If you have a picture of the broken wheel could you post up? It would help me to understand the design before I attempt removal!!

Hi sorry to bother you- my lad decided not to sit in the back seat of my 2017 s3 and crawled across seats. In the process he must have caught the rotary infotainment wheel- the one you write on. It’s popped off. All wires seem attached and it works but it hanging lose. So from reading the thread the wheel just pops back on- I have pressed it- not too hard and it will not go back on. Before I push it harder just wanted to check that pushing it harder is the way to go- or does it line up in a certain way. Thanks so much for your help it is very much appreciated!

It's trial and error. There is a certain way that it will click back in to place. There are long and short plastic lugs on the wheel and they must fit in to the MMI body. It will take a while but it can be done, as I know
