I've had my A4 Black Edition since Feb 2019 and its due its first service in November. My oil light hasn't come on yet but its on the very last rung when I check the oil level via my app. The car came with some Shell oil which I was going to put in to keep me going until the inspection service/oil change but wasn't sure how much to put in. The manual says you should only top up the oil once, so i wanted to make sure i put the right amount in without over filling it.

How much would people recommend putting in? Also its interesting as the car says only use Castrol oil but it came with a bottle of Shell oil.

Hoping to get this damn re-call sorted out at the same service, its a pain not being able to park it underground or in a multi story.

I would be wary of the App mine is showing low yet the car shows full. Any oil meeting vw504 spec should be fine.

I ended up putting in 500ml which took it to around 80% on the app. The app normally mirrors what the car says but I'll check in the morning.

Just to make sure I'm not being stupid, there isn't a dipstick on the 2.0 150bhp 35 engine? Otherwise I'd have checked the actual oil level but I can only check via MMI or the app.

I’m not sure about a dip stick on your motor - most don’t anymore so probably not, half a litre should be fine.

I think the difference between full and min on the digital gauge is 1 litre. Not sure if this is engine dependent.

Ive had my 40tfsi a year now and its showing min ie one bar..if it needs oil i thought the vehicle wil display a warning or message in the mmi....and it will need 1 quart..i believe

With hindsight i should have just waited for the oil light to come on. The 500ml i put in has taken it right to the top now so i'm lucky i didn't overfill it.

Yea...always wait for the YELLOW oil light..red is too low top imediatly....the display on the mmi is just a general visual its actually not true accurate..but generaly when bars is halfway people tend to top with half quart.

I definitely wouldn't rely on the app. Mine frequently says I'm on min and the car says it's on the max.
