Hi lads,

I have a 2014 B8.5 basic A4 S-line quattro. I am curious to what type of quattro system is in it. From what I have read online its a Torsen system so all wheel when required? And that the S models have the 40/60 ratio setup.

If anyone could give a brief description of the type would be great.

Yes, it is Torsen on the A4/S4 and larger.

I think 40/60 is the split for all models regardless of S designation or not.

What info are you actually looking for?

Ah just further understanding on what I have and how it works. I have a haynes manual says very little on it. I was not sure if I had the Haldex system first from reading online.

I was never told about any maintenance required on it from Audi.

Its a manual gearbox, I plan to get the oil changed in that at 100km (Don't buy into that lifetime oil story)

I dont think the rear diff needs anything only to check the seals for oil.

Opinion on this... B8 last of the Saloon RS4s or ~2016 RS3? I've taken for a test drive a Focus RS yesterday, I must say its a serious machine. Price wise vs RS3 its a big factor, did drive the RS3 yet tho. Love the shape of the B8/B8.5 tho

YouTube will be far better than me at explaining Torsen!

I have run Audi’s to 190k miles without changing torsen, front diff or rear diff oil.

One of the reasons they are specified for life is because of how sensitive they are to contaminants. I’m talking 20 micron size contaminants. They are better off with old oil than they are with contaminated oil.

Personally I find the A3 or Focus size platforms too small. The B8 platform drives like a car, not a toy!
