Hi guys, I currently own a 2019 SEAT Leon estate 2.0 TSI 190 FR Sport. All the toys but no refinement!

I'm looking at rejecting my car as loads of issues with it. - I have been looking at Audi Avant 2015 to 2016 with the same engine as mine. I know VAG group share lot of the same parts and VW and Seat look very similar inside etc... But how about Audi?
Would an A4 Avant be much better and put together better than the Leon?
Is the price premium for the badge only? Or is the car a lot better built?
I'm bit worried letting go my 19 plate for an older Audi. I have lot of rattles in the headliner (It has the panaromic electric sunroof) - which caused all sorts of rattles. Also does the 2.0 TSI petrol make that stupid fake engine noise when you floor it? - mine does in sport mode, and my wife laughs as it sounds so silly.
I would be interested in having the engine tuned as 190 bhp is bit slow for my liking as it's a de - tuned GTI. Are they safe to tune up?
 
Can’t comment on the engine but I have just over 87000 miles on my 2016 A4 and it’s silent inside, and I mean absolutely no trim noise at all and it’s on 19’s which have less give.
The OH has a 2018 mk7.5 golf and although it too has no trim noises inside you can absolutely tell the interior is not quite up to the standard of the A4.
 
The B9 A4 is massively better put together than a seat leon ever would be. Even though it may look as if some interior switches are shared, Audi versions are of a better quality. Still today against several newer rivals the interior is hard to beat. Unfortunately now though, especially with the new A3, Q3, Q2 etc, Audi interiors have taken a nose dive, up with the technology but down with the materials used...

Agreed. I know the golf and leon look very similar inside but the Audi looks lot plusher and upmarket. Need to see what dealer principle has to say about me rejecting car that they managed to crash whilst they had it for a warranty issue!
 
The Audis are screwed together same as any other VAG - screws and spring clips for the interior, standard modes of construction, lots of shared parts beyond the interior. Main differences are more sound insulation, plusher plastics on the door cards and dash. Sometimes the cheaper marques still have access to older engines to keep costs down.

Sunroofs are rattle boxes on any VAG vehicle. I wouldn't have a sunroof if it was a free option.

VAG have already demonstrated that they are willing to swap factories between the marques - the Seat equivalent of the A4 (Exeo?) from a few generations ago continued to be made at the Audi plant that made the A4 of the previous generation on which the Seat was very heavily based. The hierarchy of VAG isn't that Audis are made by white gloved craftsmen in Germany (that is actually true of the VW Phaeton plant in Dresden) and Skodas are built by knuckle dragging neanderthals in the Czech Republic using Cold War era tooling.
 
Audi avant 2016 owner, about 70k miles. Its really well put together and surprises me every time on how quiet it is inside while driving etc, even on highway. Peaceful, pleasant and premium feelings all around.
 
I tested a few A4’s before settling on mine and some A4’s do have creaks/rattles, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Proof of this is the rear quarter panel noise which occurs on many A4’s, just do a quick Google search and you will see.

You have to understand that the parts are fitted together using the same technology across Seat and Audi, the difference is in the foam and materials.

In a way all cars can have rattles. Many cars I'm sure leave the factory with a few loose screws owing to a worker having an “off” day.

However I feel Mercedes are the most consistent with making sure interiors are rattle free, it’s just my opinion from experience.
 
Actually I not think at all that an Audi is put together the same as other VAG vehicles. They can't be just because the interiors are designed in a completely different manner, cheaper plastics are used in models such as Skoda, Seat etc and they will cut assembly corners to reduce in their costs.
It is completely irrelevant to say they use the same fixings as other manufacturers, or even the same assembly lines are swapped. It is how they are put together, the quality of the materials used and the design. Yes some A4's have quality control issues like any other car. The rear quarter panel one referred to is because a human wasn't programmed, or forgot, to break off the rear window glass retaining pins.

To the OP, no the 2.0ltfsi engine doesn't have a soundaktor to produce an artificial sound...

I have to disagree, much of the trim and interior is simply fitted on with the same metal spring fixings such as the side pillars or the roof lining. These are shared across the whole VAG range, so to say it’s irrelevant I think is not plausible.

With screws, certainly, fixings however are simply clicked into place and rely on their design, which if you take a seat and Audi apart are the same style, the difference being Audi’s have a bit of foam underneath to stop trim creaking.

In any case OP, just test the Audi you buy. Audis aren’t always rattle free.

I have a 2016 Avant with 60,000 miles and a creak from the surround on the hazard button
 
I think a few people here think their Audi is a bespoke, hand-built masterpiece like a Rolls Royce or a Bentley. They are mass produced cars which are every bit as capable of needing warranty remedial work as any other marque. Their reliability ratings are distinctly average.

Sound insulation, softer interior plastics, nicer switches, fitment of harmonic damping devices and (sometimes) early access to tech the whole VAG group will eventually get is what sets your Audi apart from its Skoda or Seat equivalent. VW get almost all the bits that the Audi does.

Standardised modes of assembly for all marques - that slightly nicer looking door card will clip to the door in the same way on your A4 as a Skoda Superb - diamond shaped spring clips all around the perimeter and a few bolts on the door grab handle and the area that houses tge window switches. A/B/C pillar trims spring clipped into slots on the body shell etc. If you've fitted dashcams to a variety of VAG cars and tucked wiring behind trim, you'll know this is the case.
