This particular car is a 2010. Claims to have had a recent timing chain kit. What Is the issue with the timing chains?

They get loose, the plastic tensioner wears, the chain 'stretches' (some say it doesn't actually stretch rather the links wear and it causes the slop), eventually jumps out of timing.

Thats worst case scenario. If you google the issue, it seems to have affected the 06-08 models most, on the golf etc. They changed the oil filter design 3 times, and I believe added an oil feed for the chain directly.

Regular oil changes are important for this engine, for the turbo and chain.
Mine is a 2011 on 76k with no issues, been dealer serviced till I bought it 2.5 years ago, and has had about 4 oil changes in my ownership.

Mine is a 2010 model. 09/2009 built.
Bought it last October.
It had 120.000 km when I bought it and now has 133.000 km.
It had the timing chain, tensioner replaced at around 110.000 km from the previous owner.

Since I bought it I only had fixes that I consider as “typical” or “things that happen usually”.

1. Water pump. It worked but made a lot of noise when turning. +new belt +new tensioner

2. I lately have an error “system too rich” coming and going.
Have replaced the purge valve so far which reduced the error.
I will also replace the lamda sensor soon as I have a rough idle when cold.
And see from there on.

Here in Greece it is the most common to change oil and oil filter every 10.000 km.
And every 20k change spark plugs, all filters etc.
So that is what I also do.

I came from a Mini Cooper S with 160 HP. The A3 seems many times much slower but I do not regret it at all.
You still have enough power to pass a slower car.
Your tires work set the road on fire for sure, but it is really decent quick car.
