Went into Farnborough Audi (big mistake!) for MOT/Service. They advised low battery on key fob. Strange as battery recently changed in this fob and worked perfectly for a few weeks after. There were no issues or errors before it went to garage. We always replace batteries ourselves, have large supply and done many times. Following morning after service, key fob is dead and new battery is not working. Replacement battery tested in another key fob for another Audi and works fine. Spare key fob for this car also works fine so issue with single key fob.

Guessing key fob has lost encoding. Has this got to be done at Audi or can 3rd parties do this?
What sort of cost should I expect to pay?

Farnborough Service attitude absolutely appalling. Blame customer and monetise issue they probably caused so would much rather take elsewhere for professional work and customer service! Wanted to charge £60 just for diagnosing problem.

Sorry to here that fella. I know there are company’s out there, that will be able to code your key. But it seems very strange that your key would just stop working. I would try to complain again, saying it was working fine when it was brought in.
I keep thinking maybe they swapped ur key with somebody else’s on purpose. But the would mean going out there way to pull out the metal key and swap it over.

Keys are a challenge outside of the dealer network due to the immobiliser encoding.

@DJAlix is probably best placed to advise.

Havfe you tried readding the key through the MMI option? The key basically has 2 codes. The first one is the immobiliser code that allows the key to start the car, the second allows the key to be recognised by the car for locking and unlocking the car. I remember in the C6 and before there was a convoluted process for pairing the key with the car (seem to recall it involved putting the key in the drivers door lock and twisted it for a specified period of time amongst other things). If your car still starts with the problem key then it seems as if the car has forgotten your key. You may need to return to the dealer to get them to delete all the keys from the car and then start the pairing process over again
