Satellite Navigation SD Cards

Our A3 is nearly three years old now and the SD card is the same age; I’m starting to think now would be a good time to a get newer mapping. I enjoy using the MMI so a new card for me is the way to go.

The card we are using now is labelled Europa MIB-HS 2017/2018. Do subsequent versions run something like this?

2018/2019

2019

2019/2020

2020

I think I have three choices:

a)Buy the most recent card from Audi, but I think this will prohibitively expense

b)Buy a ‘copy’ and run the risk of ‘bricking’ the MMI unit.

c)Buy a more recent genuine used card

Option C seems the way to go (based on cost and risk); can a genuine replacment card be used in SD card slot and work straight away without any programming being required and is anyone selling one?

As far as I know, dealer or retro fitter is the only option with SD card based satnav. The card has to be tied to the unit via some codes, then authenticated via Audi HQ.
So it’s dealer or somebody like @DJAlix.

You need to search for this. No one has replied as all info you need is available and you basically have only 2 options:

1: pay a Audi for a new SC card. Approx £250
2. Talk to @DJAlix and see if he can help you out

all SD cards are paired to the car and cannot be interchanged.

Year formats are correct. Maps data is released every 6 months so you end up with 2020 data and the 2020/2021 for example.

re your options:

A) approx £265.00

B) not possible, the licence on your MMI needs to be updated and this cannot be done via an eBay or 3rd party card.

C) would have to be new old stock and would have to come completed with an unused activation licence pack. Once you have this you would then need to visit an authorised party (like myself) to have this activated.

What about installing Sat Nav from scratch in my S3 8V 2015 model??

Was it not standard in an S3 back then? I am sure it was in some A3s as some models were called Nav.

No, depends when build at new, if it was enabled or not!

Had two quotes,
1) Taunton Audi £693
2) Plymouth Audi £487
Big difference!!

May just stick with my TomTom, when I bought it cost me £187.
Updates and speed cameras for life included and 6inch screen.

If you are in Somerset then try Yeovil Audi? They beat Taunton Audi for servicing a few years back so might be able to beat those prices, but to be honest the Taunton quote sounds about right, Plymout quote seems a tad cheap!
 
Well had a good think about it many A3/S3 owner's saying the built in Sat Nav is not the best, then there's the updates, more cost on top what you have paid etc.
Thought I would try a (new one) Tom Tom, £149 with life time maps and speed camera, plus live traffic updates.
I mounted it between the vents on a magnetic mount I used for a phone.
Happy so far.
