Hi All.

Got made redundant and need a runaround. A good friend of mine has offered me a deal on his 2005 A4 3.0Tdi Quattro S Line.

It's got 115k on clock and no real service history to speak of as they both have serviced it themselves.

Anything I should be looking for in particular?

TIA

Mick

Very low mileage for the age. This is a lot to take on as a runabout but great V6 to drive and Quattro is solid gearbox

I have a 56 plate Avant 3.0 S-line Quattro, I love it but a touch thirsty for a runaround, I average 31 worked from receipts, ignore what the dash computer says.
You don't mention transmission, mine is auto by choice, but I guess manuals are less to go wrong except the clutch.
Some have DPF some don't, look in the service book at the options page for code 7GN (I think) 7GN = NO DPF, mine hasn't got it.
Some 3.0Tdi's suffered cam chain tensioner problems, a new chain & tensioner set is best part of £1000 and engine out, however the top tensioners can be done in car, or so I've read. If it's rattly on start up be aware, mine does tick a bit at first. I have read that the early 04/05's were most affected and there has been a revision to the tensioners.
Also the swirl flap bushes & linkages wear which will throw the light on. I fitted exchange manifolds from Poland, been good since.
They also rust, look up under the rear body over the rear axle and have a good look at front & rear wings behind the wheels, mine also has a few blisters in the roof gutter.
Hope that helps
Best of luck

thanks for the replies guys.

It's an automatic

The car is known to me hence why i'm buying it as a 'runaround' because I've been a company car driver most my life and buying second hand scares the life out of me lol.

I only intend haivng it 3 months or so max, so i'm hoping not to pick up any bills and the advice is hopefully for me to identify anything that could catch me out. Of course it's a 15 year old car so I'm not expecting perfection, but I couldn't knowingly sell this on and hide any issues so i need to identify them beofre I commit to buying it myself.

Ironically it does have a blister on the roof rail, so there's one issue identifed already lol

If it's a S-line auto I believe they all had paddle shift as standard.
I think they make a great cruiser, lots of grunt and plenty quick but not what I'd call a full on sports, definitely a car for the open road.
Also be aware, road tax is £330 or thereabouts and it seems to like tyres.
