Morning all!

Last week my family and I were left stranded whilst on holiday (in the UK luckily) in my 5-month old S3 that has covered only 1,400 miles from new. The car was behaving normally, then in a traffic jam was stop/starting over and over as expected... until the next minute when it didn't start back up again!

Long story short - the AA came out and diagnosed a faulty starter motor, car was taken back to Audi Nottingham and fixed, and I now have the car back.

My question simply is, should there be any cause for concern on my part for the future? The dealer just told me it was an unfortunate failure and it shouldn't happen again (they've replaced the starter motor). Can somebody who is a little more mechanically minded than I, confirm that it's unlikely to be related to anything else?

Thanks :)

Even new cars can break down, they are not immune to failures. Personally I turn off the stop-start on my wifes polo when I drive it , in real world driving it save very little in the way of fuel. . I personally wouldn't be worried that there is any other problem as the dealer said an unfortunate failure.

I never ever used start stop in traffic...
One time I had weird engine turn off but on trafficllights not permanent cut off but couple seconds and then motor started and in weird way like quiet start or carry on engine running not that proper start when you turn key.. Since then I know now when to prepare to press S/S button to not cut engine..

u were just unlucky... obd11 solves the issue with the s/s as you can permanently switch it off
