My complementary cover will expire shortly so have just renewed. It’s £99 for one year (I think has been increased recently) or £145 for two years. Cover includes:

·Roadside

·Home Start

·Relay and Relay Plus

·European Breakdown Cover

The two year deal seems particularly good value so that’s what I opted for; beware though these prices only apply if you renew before your current cover expires.

You can renew online here:

http://www.renewmyaudi.com

Cover can be transferred to a new owner (I think) if you sell your car.

Yes! If you search then this has been covered many many times, it’s a very good deal, best on the market in my opinion. Price has been the same for ages, price only goes up by £5 if you buy outside of current policy from what I remember, or perhaps it’s a £5 reduction if you buy 2yrs and not 1. Can’t remember!

Is this like the extended warranty where it seems to be best to buy immediately before the manufacturer's cover expires?

That is a good price, mine will need doing soon.

Just looked at the others:

AA - National recovery and at home £139 for a year.

RAC - At home and roadside £140 for a year.

Green flag - Decent cover/price, I don't think I'll keep the car 12 months so this may be an option for me

Oh I may be wrong but if you pay upfront and then sell the car it's your loss. If you pay for the cover monthly and then sell the car you can cancel giving 30 days notice...so if you think you will sell before 24 months is up it may be worth paying monthly!

Yep very true but it’s also a very good selling point. The EU cover is insanely cheap. If you check out the other companies just for a week of similar cover then it’s + around £150-200.

For a minimal cost of £145 for two years it doesn’t make sense to say no. Bet you make that back if you sell your Audi. No way of knowing if you will make it back obv but at least it’s a nice selling perk amongst a sea of other A3s!

Yeah I see what you are saying and if you can transfer it to the next owner it makes sense, Oh BTW I don't have an A3 :p

Think I'll be selling mine to dealership!

I don’t think monthly payments are an option; it’s either 12 or 24 months payment upfront, probably for the very reason of preventing cancelling mid-way through the cover-period.

However the cover does seem to be transferable between owners of the vehicle; the final page in the handbook contains a ‘notification of change of ownership or detail’ form so as @Ormesome suggests could be a good selling point if selling privately.

S32B,
even though my A3 is just over a year old I also run with Green Flag bought through the Caravan Club. Policy price, content and service is good. I pay about £120 for two vehicles for all the bells and whistles. Reason why is towing the caravan. With nearly every policy on the market if the car broke down and needed bringing home then the van would not be brought back unlss it was attached to the car or if the van broke it would not be recovered full stop. Green Flag through the Caravan Club cover these scenarios.
As regards buy a top up with companies for European cover, this has always been expensive. If you are buying it, it's because you are going abroad. If they include it on a policy as standard the vast majority of owners would never use it.

Ahh right, I know you can do the extended warranty monthly or yearly. I know that is refundable on a pro rata basis if you sell the car as I phoned them up and asked, as it's not transferable. I'll buy that upfront as they want an extra £50 to do it monthly!

Yeah exactly what I was thinking mate, I have no intention of driving abroad and the chances are I'll sell the car before summer next year anyway, so the £40 option would probably do me...my car has only done 8,300 mile, so hopefully should be good for a good while yet!!! (Touch wood :p)

My renewal quote was £89 for this year.
Still a good price if you know you are keeping it 12 months.

Thanks all :)

Bit of a thick question, but what does "continuous" mean when renewing the cover?

Cheers, my warranty and breakdown cover expire next month so i'll renew the breakdown cover. I'm in 2 minds about the warranty

Guyyz, c'moon why u paying breakdown cover , audis never break.. on roads, they ar robust :smug:

I'm just about renew my warranty, my car is just about three old. I've been quoted £334.70 for all component over, with £0 excess. Seems reasonable in the grand scheme of things.

I have taken out the warranty, works out £23 a month. for me its piece of mind as if something major went wrong I would struggle to pay for it, especially in this difficult times. (Mrs got made redundant).

Less than £1 per day vs £8,000 if the gearbox goes bang!

That's good with £0 excess, what car is it for? On the A5 it cames back with:
£250 excess = £297.43
£100 excess = £372.00
£0 excess = £446.58

for me its piece of mind as if something major went wrong
Same here mate, I hate it when you hear 'bing bing bing' and your heart hits your mouth, you think nooo what's wrong??? only to look down and see a message on the dash saying 'limited visibility', 'low fuel', 'Audi pre sense' because it's seen a cyclist 100 yards in front...drives me mad at times. But yeah ice to know if it's something big you're covered.

Makes a lot more sense when you put it like that! Due to my mileage, it was coming in around £446 too with £0 excess

Go for the £250 excess and just put the £150 saved to one side, if you have to claim you only have to find £100 on top of that....if you don't claim you've saved £150! Do the same next year and you have 2 lots of saved money = £300 to one side, more than enough for the excess...man math :p:D

Your man maths is better than mine. My man maths concluded that an S3 would be better than a diesel when doing 15k a year ...diesels are boring lol

I claim everything on the warranty so the lower excesses might be better...I'm sure my local dealer hates me! Thinking about it, the warranty is probably worth having even if it has to go in for the thermostat housing leak issue...£££

My car’s a three year old A3 TFSi 1.5, mileage is less than 10,000 a year, with about 17,800 on the clock. These are the six quotes I received:

Excess All components Named components

£0 £334.70 £274.96

£100 £282.51 £234.70

£250 £230.31 £194.44

Just a quick note: if you renew this, or the warranty, it won't show up either as renewed on the myAudi app, the website and the Audi UK app.

I have the new recovery "credit card" which has the correct date, and have rung the warranty team & they are clear it has been renewed, but there's some bug preventing renewals showing up online.

All good for piece of mind mate :) For the difference it has to be all components though!

Bit of a thick question, but what does "continuous" mean when renewing the cover?

Just phoned them up and asked a few questions!

1) The car is covered not you, so if you sell the car after 6 months then the next owner has 6 months of cover.
2) If you buy another new VW group car and haven't used the breakdown service they will refund you what you have left on a prorata basis.
3) Annual Continuous is £10 cheaper and you pay by direct debit, 21 days before it's due to renew they send you a letter telling you, you then have the option to cancel, but if you don't it just auto renews on the direct debit. Annual you pay by credit or debit card, you get a letter again at 21 days before the end, but you have to phone to say you are renewing and give them the payment method again, if you don't phone it runs out! Both ways you pay in full from the start.
4) And a daft one but always best to check! The day it runs out is at midnight, so if it says expires on the 19th, start the new cover from the 20th.

Handy the if you buy another VW group car, didn't know that bit! So £89 for me this year.

I did that. It looked good on the advert when i sold my A3 at 4yrs old. If its PCP and its being handed back then no point, but if its a private sale then something like this makes it stand out.

Side note, Extended warranties are now available past 5yr mark when a few yrs ago it was to only 5yrs old. I wonder if the break down cover can be extended too past 5yrs mark?

I did the same, I own the car and there's nothing out there at the moment that I want to change the S3 for (that I can afford anyway :wink new:)

Exactly...for the sake of a phone call to cancel if needed!

Exactly the position I'm in mate, it will be nice not having any monthly payments going out....just a big hole in the savings account instead lol.

I'm looking at the Yaris GR on Wednesday morning, luckily I'm off this week and it's only in the dealership wed/thursday so it's fallen lucky :) Not keen on the shape/looks but the tech and what it can do is interesting!!! Failing that the GR86 which is to replace the GT86....get one of those and I'll 100% keep it 5 years or longer.
