Hi I bought a pfl manual s3 a few weeks ago and I love it

the only gripe I have is that it has quite a highly clutch biting point which makes gear changes a bit difficult to do smoothly especially 1st to 2nd. It can be a bit jerky because of this.

Is this a normal characteristic? Or is my clutch getting warn. Anyone similar?

cheers

Someone else have to tell you if this is normal or not (I have a S-Tronic) but if it is in fact normal behaviour I would suggest to install a clutch pedal stop. Both ECS and BMS makes a version.

Nice little mod. Thanks for that

clutch might be on the way out imo and experience.

find a steep road, drive uphill, second gear slow drive and then floor it... you will be able to notice if clutch is slipping or not... if the revs go up but the car isn't speeding up accordingly, change the clutch or be prepared to do it soon

obviously only do this at own risk and in the right conditions

My tdi has done that since I got it. They adjusted it a few times but still does it. Poss synchromesh issue but they weren't interested and just kept fobbing me off. Its a "feature".

Like syncromesh in the gearbox?

Yes. Read elsewhere that some have synchromesh issues. They adjusted the linkages in mine but never fixed the problem, just like they never fixed the sticky electronic handbrake.
My missus has a 2016 2.0TDI and the gear change is beautiful.
I’m gonna tweak the gear linkage And see if the gear change improves and buy a clutch stop

Yeah I’m gonna price up a replacement clutch and flywheel.

I can live with the high biting point but it’s the harshness of the gear change I can’t live with. The clutch really is on or off. I kind of have to feather it a bit to get a smooth gearchange.

sounds like dual mass flywheel issues that I’ve experienced. The dual mass turns to essentially one big mass. the springs inside the dual mass should be softening the gear changes rather than you having to feather it yourself to do it.

I think you could be right. I bought the car 4 weeks ago from a dealer. It’s only after driving it daily for a bit that it’s really annoying me. I wonder do I have any come back

i would get a quote for the work and go back to the dealer. You could reject the car and get your money back as you wouldn’t expect to fork out £1k repair bill after only 4 weeks. they might fix it or come to an arrangement like pay half. I would be adamant they paid the full bill.

Just an update on this. I had the clutch and flywheel replaced in Audi and...... it’s the exact same.
I still really kind of have to feather 1st - 2nd gear changes to achieve any sort of smoothness. If there anything else it could be??

It must be under warranty is you got Audi to do it, so just tell them to give you a hire vehicle while they sort it out.

I don’t think they have done the job wrong. I was just full on sure that my gear change would be nice and fluid after a new flywheel.
I just don’t understand why it is like it is. It surely can’t be a characteristic?

I meant is it under warranty anyway, if so Audi should investigate the issue for free.
No one really uses Audi if its out of warranty.

Must have cost a fortune, they quoted me £750.00 for a cambelt and water pump and got it done for 350.00 elsewhere.
