First haldex service due on Audi S3 8v 66plate 23k miles.

What sort of price am I lookign at. Local audi quoted £110inc vat.

I've read its likely to be gen5 haldex so what exactly needs doing?

Some users have said audi don't clean filter but don't think the gen5 has a filter?

Please advise.

Don’t take it to Audi dealer, they won’t clean the filter
Use an independent specialist, who will remove and clean the filter

Confused now about filter. Face lift 8v S3 don't have a filter by sounds id

Generation 5 Haldex Oil Change and Pump Strainer Clean -
- Haldex Generation 5 is seen on the Mk7 Golf, A3/S3 8v and a few other models

Why won't audi clean the strainer/filter/gauge/ is jsut baffling. For what they arw charging.

I'm sure they would oif I requested them to do it

They don’t think it’s necessary apparently.

You can try asking, people get varying results. If you do go the Audi route make sure you get pics as what they say they do vs actually do don’t always tie up.

The strainer is the same thing.

I just had my facelift done 17 plate 24k miles.

Indi will clean the strainer/filter/gauze if asked. Audi won’t. If you use an Audi/VAG specialist they will be able to update the Erwin online portal.

My haldex service was £120 inc VAT at indi so the quote is about right.

Check this thread:

Not all indies can update the online service record - 2 out of 3 near me don’t/won’t pay for the access required to do so. £120 is expensive for an indie too.

Lots of opinions but what are they based on? Possible that the typical service does not need cleaning the screen (so called filter)? I have read that to clean the screen requires some pump disassembly but I don't know.
There are people reporting whistle clean screens but they are not yelling.
I checked the clutch temperature and pump duty cycle with VCDS on a run a little more aggressive than usual on warm day (32 C) and found that the typical/max duty cycle to be 15/60 and the clutch was steady at 45-46 C.
My Haldex appears to be not working too hard,

I would 100% get it done and ask for pics of the gauze.my car had done 28k and it was blocked solid.

Any local indy around Oldham /Manchester

Yep, Volksmaster in Oldham look after my RSQ3. Just had the haldex done on mine and they have access to Audi database for service records :icon thumright:

How mcuh did they charge you

Had a major service done at the same time...can't remember the fully breakdown. Was a bit more than the standard 100quid I think by not much more to properly pull it and clean properly..

Mine was clogged up as you can see, they took pics for me

The above was at 21k miles by the way so I wouldn't go beyond 20k service intervals from now on. The slight "judder" I had on pulling away sometimes has now gone after proper clean so haldex was probably working harder due to being clogged up

Think it depends I didn’t get mine done till 30k miles, which is when the oil change was due. The Indy said my filter was hardly clogged up so I guess it depends on how your car has been driven previously.

I need to get my online service history updated though
You really don’t, just keep the recipts to prove the work was done properly.
^^^THIS^^^ I sold my S3 to a sports car specialist, even though my indie HAD updated the Audi records online, the specialists was happy enough just to see the receipts that the indie had given me and gave me £1,500 more than Audi had offered as a px!

1) They want it to break and then charge you for a new one
2) Because the majority (not all) of them just know how to take an old parts off and fit a new parts. When I was waiting at my indie a couple of years back a bloke I got talking to said Audi wanted over £1,000 for a new turbo, the indie stripped it down and repaired it for about £170.

Not just Audi btw, a mate was having trouble with his Ford, Ford said X part needed replacing at £600!!! So he saw another mate who has been fully trained as a strip and build mechanic, he took the part off, stripped it down, cleaned it and put it back together...favour owed and £20 for a few beers.

Yep I asked!
but got told not allowed to remove pump unless replacing it.

I did ask why they don’t clean the filter, and wait for it......
Most cars aren’t driven hard enough so they won’t clean filter

whistle clean screens ... err where? Never seen such myself. There are a bucket load of posts on here about clogged up filters. People are not making this up.

I had issues with the front wheels spinning coming out of junctions and after getting the haldex serviced (including the screen/filter cleaned) the problem went away..I never got a pic of the filter but I did inspect it and it was covered in an oily paste. I can put hand on heart and say that I never gave the car a hard time ie ragging it every day I don't think I ever launched it more than five times all the time I had it.Two of those launches was done the day before I got rid of it lol So the argument about how hard you drive it versus the amount the filter is clogged didn't come into it in my case? Possibly the age of the oil is an issue? My car was just over three years old and 15k before the system was serviced.
